²So many gathered that there was no longer any room, not even by^[a] the door, and he preached the word to them.

Mark 2:2 tn Some translations (e.g., NIV, NLT) take the preposition πρός (pros), which indicates proximity, to mean “outside the door.” Others render it as “in front of the door” (TEV, CEV), and still others, “around the door” (NAB). There is some ambiguity inherent in the description here.

²They gathered in such large numbers^(A) that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them.

²So many gathered around that there was no longer room for them, not even in front of the door, and he was speaking the word to them.^(A)

²and immediately many were gathered together, so that there was no more room, not even at the door, and he was speaking to them the word.
