Jesus Calms the Storm(A)(B)

22 One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out. 23 As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.

24 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master,(C) we’re going to drown!”

He got up and rebuked(D) the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm.(E) 25 “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples.

A Living Sacrifice

12 Therefore, I urge you,(A) brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice,(B) holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 15 He has filled me with bitter herbs
and given me gall to drink.(A)

16 He has broken my teeth with gravel;(B)
he has trampled me in the dust.(C)

18 So I say, “My splendor is gone
and all that I had hoped from the Lord.”(D)

19 I remember my affliction and my wandering,
    the bitterness(E) and the gall.(F)
20 I well remember them,
and my soul is downcast(G) within me.(H)
21 Yet this I call to mind

22 Because of the Lord’s great love(I) we are not consumed,(J)
    for his compassions never fail.(K)
23 They are new every morning;
    great is your faithfulness.(L)
24 I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion;(M)

25 The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him,
to the one who seeks him;(N)
26 it is good to wait quietly(O)
for the salvation of the Lord.(P)

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!(A) In his great mercy(B) he has given us new birth(C) into a living hope(D) through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,(E) and into an inheritance(F) that can never perish, spoil or fade.(G) This inheritance is kept in heaven for you,(H) who through faith are shielded by God’s power(I) until the coming of the salvation(J) that is ready to be revealed(K) in the last time. In all this you greatly rejoice,(L) though now for a little while(M) you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.(N) These have come so that the proven genuineness(O) of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire(P)—may result in praise, glory and honor(Q) when Jesus Christ is revealed.(R)
