At the Home of Martha and Mary

³⁸ As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha^(A) opened her home to him. ³⁹ She had a sister called Mary,^(B) who sat at the Lord’s feet^(C) listening to what he said.

¹⁶ “Come near^(A) me and listen^(B) to this:

⁴⁰ But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care^(A) that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

³ Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.^(A) Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,^{(B) 4} not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.^(C)

⁵ In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:^(D)

¹¹ And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead^(A) is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies^(B) because of^[a] his Spirit who lives in you.
