2 Sihon, re degli Amorei, che abitava a Heshbon e dominava da Aroer, che è sulle sponde del fiume Harnon, da metà del fiume e da metà di Galaad, fino al fiume Jabbok, confine dei figli di Ammon;
9 il re di Gerico uno; il re di Ai, vicino a Bethel, uno;
10 il re di Gerusalemme, uno; il re di Hebron, uno;
11 Il re di Jarmuth, uno; il re di Lakish, uno;
16 il re di Makkedah, uno; il re di Bethel, uno;
20 il re di Scimron-Meron, uno; il re di Akshaf, uno;
21 il re di Taanak, uno; il re di Meghiddo, uno;
22 il re di Kedesh, uno; il re di Jokneam, al Karmel, uno;
23 il re di Dor, sulle alture di Dor, uno; il re delle genti di Ghilgal, uno;
24 il re di Tirtsah, uno. In tutto trentun re.
4 a sud, tutto il paese dei Cananei, e Mearah che appartiene ai Sidoni, fino ad Afek, fino al confine degli Amorei;
5 il paese dei Ghibliti e tutto il Libano verso l'est, da Baal-Gad, ai piedi del monte Hermon, fino all'ingresso di Hamath;
9 da Aroer che è sulle sponde del torrente Arnon e dalla città che è in mezzo alla valle, tutto l'altopiano di Medeba fino a Dibon;
10 tutte le città di Sihon re degli Amorei, che regnava a Heshbon, fino al confine dei figli di Ammon;
11 Galaad, il territorio dei Gheshuriti e dei Maakathiti, tutto il monte Hermon e tutto Bashan fino a Salkah;
15 Mosè dunque aveva dato alla tribú dei figli di Ruben la loro parte, secondo le loro famiglie;
18 Jahtsah, Kedemoth, Mefaath,
19 Kirjathaim, Sibmah, Tsereth-Hashahar sul monte della valle,
20 Beth-Peor, le pendici del Pisgah e Beth-Jescimoth;
3 e si prolungava a sud della salita di Akrabbim, passava per Tsin, poi risaliva a sud di Kadesh-Barnea, passava da Hetsron, saliva verso Addar e ripiegava verso Karkaa;
5 Il confine a est era il mar Salato fino alla foce del Giordano. Il confine a nord iniziava dal braccio di mare presso la foce del Giordano;
22 Kinah, Dimonah, Adadah,
23 Kadesh, Hatsor, Ithnam,

Land Still to Be Taken
13 When Joshua had grown old,(BC) the Lord said to him, “You are now very old, and there are still very large areas of land to be taken over.
2 “This is the land that remains: all the regions of the Philistines(BD) and Geshurites,(BE) 3 from the Shihor River(BF) on the east of Egypt to the territory of Ekron(BG) on the north, all of it counted as Canaanite though held by the five Philistine rulers(BH) in Gaza, Ashdod,(BI) Ashkelon,(BJ) Gath and Ekron; the territory of the Avvites(BK) 4 on the south; all the land of the Canaanites, from Arah of the Sidonians as far as Aphek(BL) and the border of the Amorites;(BM) 5 the area of Byblos;(BN) and all Lebanon(BO) to the east, from Baal Gad below Mount Hermon(BP) to Lebo Hamath.(BQ)
6 “As for all the inhabitants of the mountain regions from Lebanon to Misrephoth Maim,(BR) that is, all the Sidonians, I myself will drive them out(BS) before the Israelites. Be sure to allocate this land to Israel for an inheritance, as I have instructed you,(BT) 7 and divide it as an inheritance(BU) among the nine tribes and half of the tribe of Manasseh.”
Division of the Land East of the Jordan
8 The other half of Manasseh,[b] the Reubenites and the Gadites had received the inheritance that Moses had given them east of the Jordan, as he, the servant of the Lord, had assigned(BV) it to them.(BW)
9 It extended from Aroer(BX) on the rim of the Arnon Gorge, and from the town in the middle of the gorge, and included the whole plateau(BY) of Medeba as far as Dibon,(BZ) 10 and all the towns of Sihon king of the Amorites, who ruled in Heshbon,(CA) out to the border of the Ammonites.(CB) 11 It also included Gilead,(CC) the territory of the people of Geshur and Maakah, all of Mount Hermon and all Bashan as far as Salekah(CD)— 12 that is, the whole kingdom of Og in Bashan,(CE) who had reigned in Ashtaroth(CF) and Edrei.(CG) (He was the last of the Rephaites.(CH)) Moses had defeated them and taken over their land.(CI) 13 But the Israelites did not drive out the people of Geshur(CJ) and Maakah,(CK) so they continue to live among the Israelites to this day.(CL)
14 But to the tribe of Levi he gave no inheritance, since the food offerings presented to the Lord, the God of Israel, are their inheritance, as he promised them.(CM)
15 This is what Moses had given to the tribe of Reuben, according to its clans:
16 The territory from Aroer(CN) on the rim of the Arnon Gorge, and from the town in the middle of the gorge, and the whole plateau past Medeba(CO) 17 to Heshbon and all its towns on the plateau,(CP) including Dibon,(CQ) Bamoth Baal,(CR) Beth Baal Meon,(CS) 18 Jahaz,(CT) Kedemoth,(CU) Mephaath,(CV) 19 Kiriathaim,(CW) Sibmah,(CX) Zereth Shahar on the hill in the valley, 20 Beth Peor,(CY) the slopes of Pisgah, and Beth Jeshimoth— 21 all the towns on the plateau(CZ) and the entire realm of Sihon king of the Amorites, who ruled at Heshbon. Moses had defeated him and the Midianite chiefs,(DA) Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur and Reba(DB)—princes allied with Sihon—who lived in that country. 22 In addition to those slain in battle, the Israelites had put to the sword Balaam son of Beor,(DC) who practiced divination.(DD) 23 The boundary of the Reubenites was the bank of the Jordan. These towns and their villages were the inheritance of the Reubenites, according to their clans.(DE)
24 This is what Moses had given to the tribe of Gad, according to its clans:
25 The territory of Jazer,(DF) all the towns of Gilead(DG) and half the Ammonite country as far as Aroer, near Rabbah;(DH) 26 and from Heshbon(DI) to Ramath Mizpah and Betonim, and from Mahanaim(DJ) to the territory of Debir;(DK) 27 and in the valley, Beth Haram, Beth Nimrah,(DL) Sukkoth(DM) and Zaphon(DN) with the rest of the realm of Sihon king of Heshbon (the east side of the Jordan, the territory up to the end of the Sea of Galilee[c](DO)). 28 These towns and their villages were the inheritance of the Gadites,(DP) according to their clans.
29 This is what Moses had given to the half-tribe of Manasseh, that is, to half the family of the descendants of Manasseh, according to its clans:
30 The territory extending from Mahanaim(DQ) and including all of Bashan,(DR) the entire realm of Og king of Bashan(DS)—all the settlements of Jair(DT) in Bashan, sixty towns, 31 half of Gilead, and Ashtaroth and Edrei (the royal cities of Og in Bashan).(DU) This was for the descendants of Makir(DV) son of Manasseh—for half of the sons of Makir, according to their clans.(DW)
32 This is the inheritance Moses had given when he was in the plains of Moab(DX) across the Jordan east of Jericho.(DY) 33 But to the tribe of Levi, Moses had given no inheritance;(DZ) the Lord, the God of Israel, is their inheritance,(EA) as he promised them.(EB)
Division of the Land West of the Jordan
14 Now these are the areas the Israelites received as an inheritance(EC) in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar(ED) the priest, Joshua son of Nun and the heads of the tribal clans of Israel(EE) allotted(EF) to them.(EG) 2 Their inheritances were assigned by lot(EH) to the nine and a half tribes,(EI) as the Lord had commanded through Moses. 3 Moses had granted the two and a half tribes their inheritance east of the Jordan(EJ) but had not granted the Levites an inheritance among the rest,(EK) 4 for Joseph’s descendants had become two tribes—Manasseh and Ephraim.(EL) The Levites received no share of the land but only towns to live in, with pasturelands for their flocks and herds.(EM) 5 So the Israelites divided the land, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.(EN)
Allotment for Caleb
6 Now the people of Judah approached Joshua at Gilgal,(EO) and Caleb son of Jephunneh(EP) the Kenizzite said to him, “You know what the Lord said to Moses the man of God(EQ) at Kadesh Barnea(ER) about you and me.(ES) 7 I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh Barnea(ET) to explore the land.(EU) And I brought him back a report according to my convictions,(EV) 8 but my fellow Israelites who went up with me made the hearts of the people melt in fear.(EW) I, however, followed the Lord my God wholeheartedly.(EX) 9 So on that day Moses swore to me, ‘The land on which your feet have walked will be your inheritance(EY) and that of your children(EZ) forever, because you have followed the Lord my God wholeheartedly.’[d]
10 “Now then, just as the Lord promised,(FA) he has kept me alive for forty-five years since the time he said this to Moses, while Israel moved(FB) about in the wilderness. So here I am today, eighty-five years old!(FC) 11 I am still as strong(FD) today as the day Moses sent me out; I’m just as vigorous(FE) to go out to battle now as I was then. 12 Now give me this hill country that the Lord promised me that day.(FF) You yourself heard then that the Anakites(FG) were there and their cities were large and fortified,(FH) but, the Lord helping me, I will drive them out just as he said.”
13 Then Joshua blessed(FI) Caleb son of Jephunneh(FJ) and gave him Hebron(FK) as his inheritance.(FL) 14 So Hebron has belonged to Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite ever since, because he followed the Lord, the God of Israel, wholeheartedly.(FM) 15 (Hebron used to be called Kiriath Arba(FN) after Arba,(FO) who was the greatest man among the Anakites.)
Then the land had rest(FP) from war.
Allotment for Judah(FQ)
15 The allotment for the tribe of Judah, according to its clans, extended down to the territory of Edom,(FR) to the Desert of Zin(FS) in the extreme south.(FT)
2 Their southern boundary started from the bay at the southern end of the Dead Sea,(FU) 3 crossed south of Scorpion Pass,(FV) continued on to Zin and went over to the south of Kadesh Barnea.(FW) Then it ran past Hezron up to Addar and curved around to Karka. 4 It then passed along to Azmon(FX) and joined the Wadi of Egypt,(FY) ending at the Mediterranean Sea. This is their[e] southern boundary.
5 The eastern boundary(FZ) is the Dead Sea(GA) as far as the mouth of the Jordan.
The northern boundary(GB) started from the bay of the sea at the mouth of the Jordan, 6 went up to Beth Hoglah(GC) and continued north of Beth Arabah(GD) to the Stone of Bohan(GE) son of Reuben. 7 The boundary then went up to Debir(GF) from the Valley of Achor(GG) and turned north to Gilgal,(GH) which faces the Pass of Adummim south of the gorge. It continued along to the waters of En Shemesh(GI) and came out at En Rogel.(GJ) 8 Then it ran up the Valley of Ben Hinnom(GK) along the southern slope of the Jebusite(GL) city (that is, Jerusalem(GM)). From there it climbed to the top of the hill west of the Hinnom Valley(GN) at the northern end of the Valley of Rephaim.(GO) 9 From the hilltop the boundary headed toward the spring of the waters of Nephtoah,(GP) came out at the towns of Mount Ephron and went down toward Baalah(GQ) (that is, Kiriath Jearim).(GR) 10 Then it curved westward from Baalah(GS) to Mount Seir,(GT) ran along the northern slope of Mount Jearim (that is, Kesalon), continued down to Beth Shemesh(GU) and crossed to Timnah.(GV) 11 It went to the northern slope of Ekron,(GW) turned toward Shikkeron, passed along to Mount Baalah(GX) and reached Jabneel.(GY) The boundary ended at the sea.
12 The western boundary is the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea.(GZ)
These are the boundaries around the people of Judah by their clans.
13 In accordance with the Lord’s command to him, Joshua gave to Caleb(HA) son of Jephunneh a portion in Judah—Kiriath Arba(HB), that is, Hebron.(HC) (Arba was the forefather of Anak.)(HD) 14 From Hebron Caleb drove out the three Anakites(HE)—Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai,(HF) the sons of Anak.(HG) 15 From there he marched against the people living in Debir (formerly called Kiriath Sepher). 16 And Caleb said, “I will give my daughter Aksah(HH) in marriage to the man who attacks and captures Kiriath Sepher.” 17 Othniel(HI) son of Kenaz, Caleb’s brother, took it; so Caleb gave his daughter Aksah to him in marriage.
18 One day when she came to Othniel, she urged him[f] to ask her father for a field. When she got off her donkey, Caleb asked her, “What can I do for you?”
19 She replied, “Do me a special favor. Since you have given me land in the Negev,(HJ) give me also springs of water.” So Caleb gave her the upper and lower springs.(HK)

King James Version
12 Now these are the kings of the land, which the children of Israel smote, and possessed their land on the other side Jordan toward the rising of the sun, from the river Arnon unto mount Hermon, and all the plain on the east:
2 Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, and ruled from Aroer, which is upon the bank of the river Arnon, and from the middle of the river, and from half Gilead, even unto the river Jabbok, which is the border of the children of Ammon;
3 And from the plain to the sea of Chinneroth on the east, and unto the sea of the plain, even the salt sea on the east, the way to Bethjeshimoth; and from the south, under Ashdothpisgah:
4 And the coast of Og king of Bashan, which was of the remnant of the giants, that dwelt at Ashtaroth and at Edrei,
5 And reigned in mount Hermon, and in Salcah, and in all Bashan, unto the border of the Geshurites and the Maachathites, and half Gilead, the border of Sihon king of Heshbon.
6 Them did Moses the servant of the Lord and the children of Israel smite: and Moses the servant of the Lord gave it for a possession unto the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh.
7 And these are the kings of the country which Joshua and the children of Israel smote on this side Jordan on the west, from Baalgad in the valley of Lebanon even unto the mount Halak, that goeth up to Seir; which Joshua gave unto the tribes of Israel for a possession according to their divisions;
8 In the mountains, and in the valleys, and in the plains, and in the springs, and in the wilderness, and in the south country; the Hittites, the Amorites, and the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites:
9 The king of Jericho, one; the king of Ai, which is beside Bethel, one;
10 The king of Jerusalem, one; the king of Hebron, one;
11 The king of Jarmuth, one; the king of Lachish, one;
12 The king of Eglon, one; the king of Gezer, one;
13 The king of Debir, one; the king of Geder, one;
14 The king of Hormah, one; the king of Arad, one;
15 The king of Libnah, one; the king of Adullam, one;
16 The king of Makkedah, one; the king of Bethel, one;
17 The king of Tappuah, one; the king of Hepher, one;
18 The king of Aphek, one; the king of Lasharon, one;
19 The king of Madon, one; the king of Hazor, one;
20 The king of Shimronmeron, one; the king of Achshaph, one;
21 The king of Taanach, one; the king of Megiddo, one;
22 The king of Kedesh, one; the king of Jokneam of Carmel, one;
23 The king of Dor in the coast of Dor, one; the king of the nations of Gilgal, one;
24 The king of Tirzah, one: all the kings thirty and one.
13 Now Joshua was old and stricken in years; and the Lord said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed.
2 This is the land that yet remaineth: all the borders of the Philistines, and all Geshuri,
3 From Sihor, which is before Egypt, even unto the borders of Ekron northward, which is counted to the Canaanite: five lords of the Philistines; the Gazathites, and the Ashdothites, the Eshkalonites, the Gittites, and the Ekronites; also the Avites:
4 From the south, all the land of the Canaanites, and Mearah that is beside the Sidonians unto Aphek, to the borders of the Amorites:
5 And the land of the Giblites, and all Lebanon, toward the sunrising, from Baalgad under mount Hermon unto the entering into Hamath.
6 All the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon unto Misrephothmaim, and all the Sidonians, them will I drive out from before the children of Israel: only divide thou it by lot unto the Israelites for an inheritance, as I have commanded thee.
7 Now therefore divide this land for an inheritance unto the nine tribes, and the half tribe of Manasseh,
8 With whom the Reubenites and the Gadites have received their inheritance, which Moses gave them, beyond Jordan eastward, even as Moses the servant of the Lord gave them;
9 From Aroer, that is upon the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the river, and all the plain of Medeba unto Dibon;
10 And all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, which reigned in Heshbon, unto the border of the children of Ammon;
11 And Gilead, and the border of the Geshurites and Maachathites, and all mount Hermon, and all Bashan unto Salcah;
12 All the kingdom of Og in Bashan, which reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei, who remained of the remnant of the giants: for these did Moses smite, and cast them out.
13 Nevertheless the children of Israel expelled not the Geshurites, nor the Maachathites: but the Geshurites and the Maachathites dwell among the Israelites until this day.
14 Only unto the tribes of Levi he gave none inheritance; the sacrifices of the Lord God of Israel made by fire are their inheritance, as he said unto them.
15 And Moses gave unto the tribe of the children of Reuben inheritance according to their families.
16 And their coast was from Aroer, that is on the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the river, and all the plain by Medeba;
17 Heshbon, and all her cities that are in the plain; Dibon, and Bamothbaal, and Bethbaalmeon,
18 And Jahaza, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath,
19 And Kirjathaim, and Sibmah, and Zarethshahar in the mount of the valley,
20 And Bethpeor, and Ashdothpisgah, and Bethjeshimoth,
21 And all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, which reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses smote with the princes of Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, which were dukes of Sihon, dwelling in the country.
22 Balaam also the son of Beor, the soothsayer, did the children of Israel slay with the sword among them that were slain by them.
23 And the border of the children of Reuben was Jordan, and the border thereof. This was the inheritance of the children of Reuben after their families, the cities and the villages thereof.
24 And Moses gave inheritance unto the tribe of Gad, even unto the children of Gad according to their families.
25 And their coast was Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the children of Ammon, unto Aroer that is before Rabbah;
26 And from Heshbon unto Ramathmizpeh, and Betonim; and from Mahanaim unto the border of Debir;
27 And in the valley, Betharam, and Bethnimrah, and Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, Jordan and his border, even unto the edge of the sea of Chinnereth on the other side Jordan eastward.
28 This is the inheritance of the children of Gad after their families, the cities, and their villages.
29 And Moses gave inheritance unto the half tribe of Manasseh: and this was the possession of the half tribe of the children of Manasseh by their families.
30 And their coast was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the towns of Jair, which are in Bashan, threescore cities:
31 And half Gilead, and Ashtaroth, and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were pertaining unto the children of Machir the son of Manasseh, even to the one half of the children of Machir by their families.
32 These are the countries which Moses did distribute for inheritance in the plains of Moab, on the other side Jordan, by Jericho, eastward.
33 But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave not any inheritance: the Lord God of Israel was their inheritance, as he said unto them.
14 And these are the countries which the children of Israel inherited in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel, distributed for inheritance to them.
2 By lot was their inheritance, as the Lord commanded by the hand of Moses, for the nine tribes, and for the half tribe.
3 For Moses had given the inheritance of two tribes and an half tribe on the other side Jordan: but unto the Levites he gave none inheritance among them.
4 For the children of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim: therefore they gave no part unto the Levites in the land, save cities to dwell in, with their suburbs for their cattle and for their substance.
5 As the Lord commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did, and they divided the land.
6 Then the children of Judah came unto Joshua in Gilgal: and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite said unto him, Thou knowest the thing that the Lord said unto Moses the man of God concerning me and thee in Kadeshbarnea.
7 Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadeshbarnea to espy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in mine heart.
8 Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt: but I wholly followed the Lord my God.
9 And Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy feet have trodden shall be thine inheritance, and thy children's for ever, because thou hast wholly followed the Lord my God.
10 And now, behold, the Lord hath kept me alive, as he said, these forty and five years, even since the Lord spake this word unto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old.
11 As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in.
12 Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the Lord spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the Lord will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the Lord said.
13 And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance.
14 Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day, because that he wholly followed the Lord God of Israel.
15 And the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba; which Arba was a great man among the Anakims. And the land had rest from war.
15 This then was the lot of the tribe of the children of Judah by their families; even to the border of Edom the wilderness of Zin southward was the uttermost part of the south coast.
2 And their south border was from the shore of the salt sea, from the bay that looketh southward:
3 And it went out to the south side to Maalehacrabbim, and passed along to Zin, and ascended up on the south side unto Kadeshbarnea, and passed along to Hezron, and went up to Adar, and fetched a compass to Karkaa:
4 From thence it passed toward Azmon, and went out unto the river of Egypt; and the goings out of that coast were at the sea: this shall be your south coast.
5 And the east border was the salt sea, even unto the end of Jordan. And their border in the north quarter was from the bay of the sea at the uttermost part of Jordan:
6 And the border went up to Bethhogla, and passed along by the north of Betharabah; and the border went up to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben:
7 And the border went up toward Debir from the valley of Achor, and so northward, looking toward Gilgal, that is before the going up to Adummim, which is on the south side of the river: and the border passed toward the waters of Enshemesh, and the goings out thereof were at Enrogel:
8 And the border went up by the valley of the son of Hinnom unto the south side of the Jebusite; the same is Jerusalem: and the border went up to the top of the mountain that lieth before the valley of Hinnom westward, which is at the end of the valley of the giants northward:
9 And the border was drawn from the top of the hill unto the fountain of the water of Nephtoah, and went out to the cities of mount Ephron; and the border was drawn to Baalah, which is Kirjathjearim:
10 And the border compassed from Baalah westward unto mount Seir, and passed along unto the side of mount Jearim, which is Chesalon, on the north side, and went down to Bethshemesh, and passed on to Timnah:
11 And the border went out unto the side of Ekron northward: and the border was drawn to Shicron, and passed along to mount Baalah, and went out unto Jabneel; and the goings out of the border were at the sea.
12 And the west border was to the great sea, and the coast thereof. This is the coast of the children of Judah round about according to their families.
13 And unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a part among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of the Lord to Joshua, even the city of Arba the father of Anak, which city is Hebron.
14 And Caleb drove thence the three sons of Anak, Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak.
15 And he went up thence to the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjathsepher.
16 And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjathsepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.
17 And Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.
18 And it came to pass, as she came unto him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wouldest thou?
19 Who answered, Give me a blessing; for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And he gave her the upper springs, and the nether springs.
20 This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families.
21 And the uttermost cities of the tribe of the children of Judah toward the coast of Edom southward were Kabzeel, and Eder, and Jagur,
22 And Kinah, and Dimonah, and Adadah,
23 And Kedesh, and Hazor, and Ithnan,
24 Ziph, and Telem, and Bealoth,
25 And Hazor, Hadattah, and Kerioth, and Hezron, which is Hazor,
26 Amam, and Shema, and Moladah,
27 And Hazargaddah, and Heshmon, and Bethpalet,
28 And Hazarshual, and Beersheba, and Bizjothjah,
29 Baalah, and Iim, and Azem,
30 And Eltolad, and Chesil, and Hormah,
31 And Ziklag, and Madmannah, and Sansannah,
32 And Lebaoth, and Shilhim, and Ain, and Rimmon: all the cities are twenty and nine, with their villages:
33 And in the valley, Eshtaol, and Zoreah, and Ashnah,
34 And Zanoah, and Engannim, Tappuah, and Enam,
35 Jarmuth, and Adullam, Socoh, and Azekah,
36 And Sharaim, and Adithaim, and Gederah, and Gederothaim; fourteen cities with their villages:
37 Zenan, and Hadashah, and Migdalgad,
38 And Dilean, and Mizpeh, and Joktheel,
39 Lachish, and Bozkath, and Eglon,
40 And Cabbon, and Lahmam, and Kithlish,
41 And Gederoth, Bethdagon, and Naamah, and Makkedah; sixteen cities with their villages:
42 Libnah, and Ether, and Ashan,
43 And Jiphtah, and Ashnah, and Nezib,
44 And Keilah, and Achzib, and Mareshah; nine cities with their villages:
45 Ekron, with her towns and her villages:
46 From Ekron even unto the sea, all that lay near Ashdod, with their villages:
47 Ashdod with her towns and her villages, Gaza with her towns and her villages, unto the river of Egypt, and the great sea, and the border thereof:
48 And in the mountains, Shamir, and Jattir, and Socoh,
49 And Dannah, and Kirjathsannah, which is Debir,
50 And Anab, and Eshtemoh, and Anim,

61 In the wilderness, Betharabah, Middin, and Secacah,
62 And Nibshan, and the city of Salt, and Engedi; six cities with their villages.
63 As for the Jebusites the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not drive them out; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Judah at Jerusalem unto this day.
Joshua 12-15
New King James Version
The Kings Conquered by Moses(A)
12 These are the kings of the land whom the children of Israel defeated, and whose land they possessed on the other side of the Jordan toward the rising of the sun, (B)from the River Arnon (C)to Mount Hermon, and all the eastern Jordan plain: 2 One king was (D)Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon and ruled half of Gilead, from Aroer, which is on the bank of the River Arnon, from the middle of that river, even as far as the River Jabbok, which is the border of the Ammonites, 3 and (E)the eastern Jordan plain from the [a]Sea of Chinneroth as far as the [b]Sea of the Arabah (the Salt Sea), (F)the road to Beth Jeshimoth, and [c]southward below (G)the[d] slopes of Pisgah. 4 The other king was (H)Og king of Bashan and his territory, who was of (I)the remnant of the giants, (J)who dwelt at Ashtaroth and at Edrei, 5 and reigned over (K)Mount Hermon, (L)over Salcah, over all Bashan, (M)as far as the border of the Geshurites and the Maachathites, and over half of Gilead to the border of Sihon king of Heshbon.
6 (N)These Moses the servant of the Lord and the children of Israel had conquered; and (O)Moses the servant of the Lord had given it as a possession to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh.
The Kings Conquered by Joshua
7 And these are the kings of the country (P)which Joshua and the children of Israel conquered on this side of the Jordan, on the west, from Baal Gad in the Valley of Lebanon as far as [e]Mount Halak and the ascent to (Q)Seir, which Joshua (R)gave to the tribes of Israel as a possession according to their divisions, 8 (S)in the mountain country, in the lowlands, in the Jordan plain, in the slopes, in the wilderness, and in the South—(T)the Hittites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites: 9 (U)the king of Jericho, one; (V)the king of Ai, which is beside Bethel, one; 10 (W)the king of Jerusalem, one; the king of Hebron, one; 11 the king of Jarmuth, one; the king of Lachish, one; 12 the king of Eglon, one; (X)the king of Gezer, one; 13 (Y)the king of Debir, one; the king of Geder, one; 14 the king of Hormah, one; the king of Arad, one; 15 (Z)the king of Libnah, one; the king of Adullam, one; 16 (AA)the king of Makkedah, one; (AB)the king of Bethel, one; 17 the king of Tappuah, one; (AC)the king of Hepher, one; 18 the king of Aphek, one; the king of [f]Lasharon, one; 19 the king of Madon, one; (AD)the king of Hazor, one; 20 the king of (AE)Shimron Meron, one; the king of Achshaph, one; 21 the king of Taanach, one; the king of Megiddo, one; 22 (AF)the king of Kedesh, one; the king of Jokneam in Carmel, one; 23 the king of Dor in the (AG)heights of Dor, one; the king of (AH)the people of Gilgal, one; 24 the king of Tirzah, one—(AI)all the kings, thirty-one.
Remaining Land to Be Conquered
13 Now Joshua (AJ)was old, advanced in years. And the Lord said to him: “You are old, advanced in years, and there remains very much land yet to be possessed. 2 (AK)This is the land that yet remains: (AL)all the territory of the Philistines and all (AM)that of the Geshurites, 3 (AN)from Sihor, which is east of Egypt, as far as the border of Ekron northward (which is counted as Canaanite); the (AO)five lords of the Philistines—the Gazites, the Ashdodites, the Ashkelonites, the Gittites, and the Ekronites; also (AP)the Avites; 4 from the south, all the land of the Canaanites, and Mearah that belongs to the Sidonians (AQ)as far as Aphek, to the border of (AR)the Amorites; 5 the land of (AS)the [g]Gebalites, and all Lebanon, toward the sunrise, (AT)from Baal Gad below Mount Hermon as far as the entrance to Hamath; 6 all the inhabitants of the mountains from Lebanon as far as (AU)the [h]Brook Misrephoth, and all the Sidonians—them (AV)I will drive out from before the children of Israel; only (AW)divide[i] it by lot to Israel as an inheritance, as I have commanded you. 7 Now therefore, divide this land as an inheritance to the nine tribes and half the tribe of Manasseh.”
The Land Divided East of the Jordan
8 With the other half-tribe the Reubenites and the Gadites received their inheritance, (AX)which Moses had given them, (AY)beyond the Jordan eastward, as Moses the servant of the Lord had given them: 9 from Aroer which is on the bank of the River Arnon, and the town that is in the midst of the ravine, (AZ)and all the plain of Medeba as far as Dibon; 10 (BA)all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, as far as the border of the children of Ammon; 11 (BB)Gilead, and the border of the Geshurites and Maachathites, all Mount Hermon, and all Bashan as far as Salcah; 12 all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and Edrei, who remained of (BC)the remnant of the giants; (BD)for Moses had [j]defeated and [k]cast out these.
13 Nevertheless the children of Israel (BE)did not drive out the Geshurites or the Maachathites, but the Geshurites and the Maachathites dwell among the Israelites until this day.
14 (BF)Only to the tribe of Levi he had given [l]no inheritance; the sacrifices of the Lord God of Israel made by fire are their inheritance, (BG)as He said to them.
The Land of Reuben
15 (BH)And Moses had given to the tribe of the children of Reuben an inheritance according to their families. 16 Their territory was (BI)from Aroer, which is on the bank of the River Arnon, (BJ)and the city that is in the midst of the ravine, (BK)and all the plain by Medeba; 17 (BL)Heshbon and all its cities that are in the plain: Dibon, Bamoth Baal, Beth Baal Meon, 18 (BM)Jahaza, Kedemoth, Mephaath, 19 (BN)Kirjathaim, (BO)Sibmah, Zereth Shahar on the mountain of the valley, 20 Beth Peor, (BP)the slopes of Pisgah, and Beth Jeshimoth— 21 (BQ)all the cities of the plain and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, (BR)whom Moses had struck (BS)with the princes of Midian: Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, who were princes of Sihon dwelling in the country. 22 The children of Israel also killed with the sword (BT)Balaam the son of Beor, the [m]soothsayer, among those who were killed by them. 23 And the border of the children of Reuben was the bank of the Jordan. This was the inheritance of the children of Reuben according to their families, the cities and their villages.
The Land of Gad
24 (BU)Moses also had given an inheritance to the tribe of Gad, to the children of Gad according to their families. 25 (BV)Their territory was Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead, (BW)and half the land of the Ammonites as far as Aroer, which is before (BX)Rabbah, 26 and from Heshbon to Ramath Mizpah and Betonim, and from Mahanaim to the border of Debir, 27 and in the valley (BY)Beth Haram, Beth Nimrah, (BZ)Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, with the Jordan as its border, as far as the edge (CA)of the [n]Sea of Chinnereth, on the other side of the Jordan eastward. 28 This is the inheritance of the children of Gad according to their families, the cities and their villages.
Half the Tribe of Manasseh (East)
29 (CB)Moses also had given an inheritance to half the tribe of Manasseh; it was for half the tribe of the children of Manasseh according to their families: 30 Their territory was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and (CC)all the towns of Jair which are in Bashan, sixty cities; 31 half of Gilead, and (CD)Ashtaroth and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were for the (CE)children of Machir the son of Manasseh, for half of the children of Machir according to their families.
32 These are the areas which Moses had [o]distributed as an inheritance in the plains of Moab on the other side of the Jordan, by Jericho eastward. 33 (CF)But to the tribe of Levi Moses had given no inheritance; the Lord God of Israel was their inheritance, (CG)as He had said to them.
The Land Divided West of the Jordan
14 These are the areas which the children of Israel inherited in the land of Canaan, (CH)which Eleazar the priest, Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel distributed as an inheritance to them. 2 Their inheritance was (CI)by lot, as the Lord had commanded by the hand of Moses, for the nine tribes and the half-tribe. 3 (CJ)For Moses had given the inheritance of the two tribes and the half-tribe on the other side of the Jordan; but to the Levites he had given no inheritance among them. 4 For (CK)the children of Joseph were two tribes: Manasseh and Ephraim. And they gave no part to the Levites in the land, except (CL)cities to dwell in, with their common-lands for their livestock and their property. 5 (CM)As the Lord had commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did; and they divided the land.
Caleb Inherits Hebron
6 Then the children of Judah came to Joshua in Gilgal. And Caleb the son of Jephunneh the (CN)Kenizzite said to him: “You know (CO)the word which the Lord said to Moses the man of God concerning (CP)you and me in Kadesh Barnea. 7 I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord (CQ)sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy out the land, and I brought back word to him as it was in my heart. 8 Nevertheless (CR)my brethren who went up with me made the [p]heart of the people melt, but I wholly (CS)followed the Lord my God. 9 So Moses swore on that day, saying, (CT)‘Surely the land (CU)where your foot has trodden shall be your inheritance and your children’s forever, because you have wholly followed the Lord my God.’ 10 And now, behold, the Lord has kept me (CV)alive, (CW)as He said, these forty-five years, ever since the Lord spoke this word to Moses while Israel [q]wandered in the wilderness; and now, here I am this day, eighty-five years old. 11 (CX)As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both (CY)for going out and for coming in. 12 Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the Lord spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how (CZ)the Anakim were there, and that the cities were great and fortified. (DA)It may be that the Lord will be with me, and (DB)I shall be able to drive them out as the Lord said.”
13 And Joshua (DC)blessed him, (DD)and gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as an inheritance. 14 (DE)Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he (DF)wholly followed the Lord God of Israel. 15 And (DG)the name of Hebron formerly was Kirjath Arba (Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim).
(DH)Then the land had rest from war.
The Land of Judah
15 So this was the [r]lot of the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families:
(DI)The border of Edom at the (DJ)Wilderness of Zin southward was the extreme southern boundary. 2 And their (DK)southern border began at the shore of the Salt Sea, from the bay that faces southward. 3 Then it went out to the southern side of (DL)the Ascent of Akrabbim, passed along to Zin, ascended on the south side of Kadesh Barnea, passed along to Hezron, went up to Adar, and went around to Karkaa. 4 From there it passed (DM)toward Azmon and went out to the Brook of Egypt; and the border ended at the sea. This shall be your southern border.
5 The east border was the Salt Sea as far as the mouth of the Jordan.
And the (DN)border on the northern quarter began at the bay of the sea at the mouth of the Jordan. 6 The border went up to (DO)Beth Hoglah and passed north of Beth Arabah; and the border went up (DP)to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben. 7 Then the border went up toward (DQ)Debir from (DR)the Valley of Achor, and it turned northward toward Gilgal, which is before the Ascent of Adummim, which is on the south side of the valley. The border continued toward the waters of En Shemesh and ended at (DS)En Rogel. 8 And the border went up (DT)by the Valley of the Son of Hinnom to the southern slope of the (DU)Jebusite city (which is Jerusalem). The border went up to the top of the mountain that lies before the Valley of Hinnom westward, which is at the end of the Valley (DV)of [s]Rephaim northward. 9 Then the border went around from the top of the hill to (DW)the fountain of the water of Nephtoah, and extended to the cities of Mount Ephron. And the border went around (DX)to Baalah (which is (DY)Kirjath Jearim). 10 Then the border [t]turned westward from Baalah to Mount Seir, passed along to the side of Mount Jearim on the north (which is Chesalon), went down to Beth Shemesh, and passed on to (DZ)Timnah. 11 And the border went out to the side of (EA)Ekron northward. Then the border went around to Shicron, passed along to Mount Baalah, and extended to Jabneel; and the border ended at the sea.
12 The west border was (EB)the coastline of the Great Sea. This is the boundary of the children of Judah all around according to their families.
Caleb Occupies Hebron and Debir(EC)
13 (ED)Now to Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a share among the children of (EE)Judah, according to the commandment of the Lord to Joshua, namely, (EF)Kirjath Arba, which is Hebron (Arba was the father of Anak). 14 Caleb drove out (EG)the three sons of Anak from there: (EH)Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak. 15 Then (EI)he went up from there to the inhabitants of Debir (formerly the name of Debir was Kirjath Sepher).
16 (EJ)And Caleb said, “He who [u]attacks Kirjath Sepher and takes it, to him I will give Achsah my daughter as wife.” 17 So (EK)Othniel the (EL)son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it; and he gave him (EM)Achsah his daughter as wife. 18 (EN)Now it was so, when she came to him, that she persuaded him to ask her father for a field. So (EO)she dismounted from her donkey, and Caleb said to her, “What do you wish?” 19 She answered, “Give me a (EP)blessing; since you have given me land in the South, give me also springs of water.” So he gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.
The Cities of Judah
20 This was the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families:
21 The cities at the limits of the tribe of the children of Judah, toward the border of Edom in the South, were Kabzeel, (EQ)Eder, Jagur, 22 Kinah, Dimonah, Adadah, 23 Kedesh, Hazor, Ithnan, 24 (ER)Ziph, Telem, Bealoth, 25 Hazor, Hadattah, Kerioth, Hezron (which is Hazor), 26 Amam, Shema, Moladah, 27 Hazar Gaddah, Heshmon, Beth Pelet, 28 Hazar Shual, (ES)Beersheba, Bizjothjah, 29 Baalah, Ijim, Ezem, 30 Eltolad, Chesil, (ET)Hormah, 31 (EU)Ziklag, Madmannah, Sansannah, 32 Lebaoth, Shilhim, Ain, and (EV)Rimmon: all the cities are twenty-nine, with their villages.

English Standard Version
Kings Defeated by Moses
12 Now these are the kings of the land whom the people of Israel defeated and took possession of their land beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise, from (A)the Valley of the Arnon to Mount Hermon, with all (B)the Arabah eastward: 2 (C)Sihon king of the Amorites who lived at Heshbon and ruled from Aroer, which is on the edge of the Valley of the Arnon, and (D)from the middle of the valley as far as the (E)river Jabbok, the boundary of the Ammonites, that is, half of Gilead, 3 and (F)the Arabah (G)to the Sea of Chinneroth eastward, and in the direction of Beth-jeshimoth, to the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, southward to the foot of (H)the slopes of Pisgah; 4 and (I)Og[a] king of Bashan, one of the remnant of (J)the Rephaim, (K)who lived at Ashtaroth and at Edrei 5 and ruled over (L)Mount Hermon and (M)Salecah and all Bashan (N)to the boundary of the Geshurites and the Maacathites, and over half of Gilead to the boundary of Sihon king of Heshbon. 6 (O)Moses, the servant of the Lord, and the people of Israel defeated them. And Moses the servant of the Lord (P)gave their land for a possession to the Reubenites and the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh.
Kings Defeated by Joshua
7 And these are the kings of the land whom Joshua and the people of Israel defeated on the west side of the Jordan, from Baal-gad in the Valley of Lebanon to (Q)Mount Halak, that rises toward Seir (and Joshua gave their land to the tribes of Israel as a possession (R)according to their allotments, 8 (S)in the hill country, in the lowland, in the Arabah, in the slopes, in the wilderness, and in the Negeb, the land of (T)the Hittites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites): 9 (U)the king of Jericho, one; (V)the king of Ai, which is beside Bethel, one; 10 (W)the king of Jerusalem, one; (X)the king of Hebron, one; 11 (Y)the king of Jarmuth, one; (Z)the king of Lachish, one; 12 (AA)the king of Eglon, one; (AB)the king of Gezer, one; 13 (AC)the king of Debir, one; the king of Geder, one; 14 the king of Hormah, one; the king of Arad, one; 15 (AD)the king of Libnah, one; the king of Adullam, one; 16 (AE)the king of Makkedah, one; (AF)the king of Bethel, one; 17 the king of Tappuah, one; the king of Hepher, one; 18 the king of Aphek, one; the king of Lasharon, one; 19 (AG)the king of Madon, one; (AH)the king of Hazor, one; 20 (AI)the king of Shimron-meron, one; (AJ)the king of Achshaph, one; 21 (AK)the king of Taanach, one; (AL)the king of Megiddo, one; 22 the king of Kedesh, one; the king of Jokneam in Carmel, one; 23 (AM)the king of Dor in (AN)Naphath-dor, one; the king of Goiim in Galilee,[b] one; 24 the king of Tirzah, one: in all, thirty-one kings.
Land Still to Be Conquered
13 Now Joshua (AO)was old and advanced in years, and the Lord said to him, “You are old and advanced in years, and there remains yet very much land (AP)to possess. 2 (AQ)This is the land that yet remains: all the (AR)regions of the Philistines, and all those of the Geshurites 3 (from the (AS)Shihor, which is east of Egypt, northward to the boundary of Ekron, it is counted as Canaanite; (AT)there are five rulers of the Philistines, those of Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath, and Ekron), and those of (AU)the Avvim, 4 in the south, all the land of the Canaanites, and Mearah that belongs to the Sidonians, to Aphek, to the boundary of (AV)the Amorites, 5 and the land of the (AW)Gebalites, and all Lebanon, toward the sunrise, from (AX)Baal-gad below Mount Hermon to (AY)Lebo-hamath, 6 all the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon to (AZ)Misrephoth-maim, even all the Sidonians. I myself will drive (BA)them out from before the people of Israel. Only (BB)allot the land to Israel (BC)for an inheritance, as I have commanded you. 7 Now therefore (BD)divide this land for an inheritance to the nine tribes and half the tribe of Manasseh.”
The Inheritance East of the Jordan
8 With the other half of the tribe of Manasseh[c] the Reubenites and the Gadites received their inheritance, (BE)which Moses gave them, beyond the Jordan eastward, as Moses the servant of the Lord gave them: 9 (BF)from Aroer, which is on the edge of the Valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the valley, and (BG)all the tableland of Medeba as far as Dibon; 10 (BH)and all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, as far as the boundary of the Ammonites; 11 and Gilead, and the (BI)region of the Geshurites and Maacathites, and all Mount Hermon, and (BJ)all Bashan to Salecah; 12 (BK)all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei (he alone was left of (BL)the remnant of the Rephaim); (BM)these Moses had struck and driven out. 13 (BN)Yet the people of Israel did not drive out the Geshurites or the Maacathites, but Geshur and Maacath dwell in the midst of Israel to this day.
14 (BO)To the tribe of Levi alone Moses gave no inheritance. The offerings by fire to the Lord God of Israel are their inheritance, as he said to him.
15 And Moses gave an inheritance to the tribe of the people of Reuben according to their clans. 16 So their territory was from Aroer, (BP)which is on the edge of the Valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the valley, and all the tableland by (BQ)Medeba; 17 with Heshbon, and all its cities that are in the tableland; (BR)Dibon, and Bamoth-baal, and Beth-baal-meon, 18 (BS)and Jahaz, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath, 19 and (BT)Kiriathaim, and (BU)Sibmah, and Zereth-shahar on the hill of the valley, 20 and (BV)Beth-peor, and (BW)the slopes of Pisgah, and (BX)Beth-jeshimoth, 21 that is, (BY)all the cities of the tableland, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, (BZ)whom Moses defeated with (CA)the leaders of Midian, Evi and Rekem and Zur and Hur and Reba, the princes of Sihon, who lived in the land. 22 (CB)Balaam also, the son of Beor, the one who practiced divination, was killed with the sword by the people of Israel among the rest of their slain. 23 And the border of the people of Reuben was the Jordan as a boundary. This was the inheritance of the people of Reuben, according to their clans with their cities and villages.
24 Moses gave an inheritance also to the tribe of Gad, to the people of Gad, according to their clans. 25 (CC)Their territory was Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the Ammonites, to Aroer, which is east of (CD)Rabbah, 26 and from Heshbon to Ramath-mizpeh and Betonim, and from (CE)Mahanaim to the territory of Debir,[d] 27 and in the valley Beth-haram, Beth-nimrah, (CF)Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, having the Jordan as a boundary, to the lower end of the Sea of (CG)Chinnereth, eastward beyond the Jordan. 28 This is the inheritance of the people of Gad according to their clans, with their cities and villages.
29 And Moses gave an inheritance to the half-tribe of Manasseh. It was allotted to the half-tribe of the people of Manasseh according to their clans. 30 Their region extended from (CH)Mahanaim, through all Bashan, the whole kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all (CI)the towns of Jair, which are in Bashan, sixty cities, 31 and half Gilead, and (CJ)Ashtaroth, and Edrei, the cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan. These were allotted to the people of (CK)Machir the son of Manasseh for the half of the people of Machir according to their clans.
32 These are the inheritances that Moses distributed (CL)in the plains of Moab, beyond the Jordan east of Jericho. 33 (CM)But to the tribe of Levi Moses gave no inheritance; the Lord God of Israel is their inheritance, (CN)just as he said to them.
The Inheritance West of the Jordan
14 These are the inheritances that the people of Israel received in the land of Canaan, which (CO)Eleazar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun and the heads of the fathers' houses of the tribes of the people of Israel gave them to inherit. 2 Their inheritance was (CP)by lot, just as the Lord had commanded by the hand of Moses for the nine and one-half tribes. 3 (CQ)For Moses had given an inheritance to the two and one-half tribes beyond the Jordan, (CR)but to the Levites he gave no inheritance among them. 4 For (CS)the people of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim. And no portion was given to the Levites in the land, but only cities to dwell in, with their pasturelands for their livestock and their substance. 5 The people of Israel did (CT)as the Lord commanded Moses; they allotted the land.
Caleb's Request and Inheritance
6 Then the people of Judah came to Joshua at Gilgal. And Caleb the son of Jephunneh the (CU)Kenizzite said to him, “You know (CV)what the Lord said to Moses the man of God in Kadesh-barnea concerning you and me. 7 I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord (CW)sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land, and I brought him word again as it was in my heart. 8 But (CX)my brothers who went up with me made the heart of the people melt; yet I wholly followed the Lord my God. 9 And Moses swore on that day, saying, (CY)‘Surely the land (CZ)on which your foot has trodden shall be an inheritance for you and your children forever, because you have wholly followed the Lord my God.’ 10 And now, behold, the Lord has kept me alive, (DA)just as he said, these (DB)forty-five years since the time that the Lord spoke this word to Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness. And now, behold, I am this day (DC)eighty-five years old. 11 (DD)I am still as strong today as I was in the day that Moses sent me; my strength now is as my strength was then, for war and (DE)for going and coming. 12 So now give me this hill country of which the Lord spoke on that day, for you heard on that day how the (DF)Anakim were there, with great fortified cities. It may be that the Lord will be with me, and I shall drive them out just as the Lord said.”
13 Then Joshua (DG)blessed him, and he gave (DH)Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance. 14 Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, (DI)because he wholly followed the Lord, the God of Israel. 15 (DJ)Now the name of Hebron formerly was Kiriath-arba.[e] (Arba[f] was the greatest man among the Anakim.) (DK)And the land had rest from war.
The Allotment for Judah
15 The allotment for the tribe of the people of Judah according to their clans reached southward (DL)to the boundary of Edom, to (DM)the wilderness of Zin at the farthest south. 2 And their south boundary ran from the end of the (DN)Salt Sea, from the bay that faces southward. 3 It goes out southward of (DO)the ascent of Akrabbim, passes along to Zin, and goes up south of Kadesh-barnea, along by Hezron, up to Addar, turns about to Karka, 4 passes along to Azmon, goes out by (DP)the Brook of Egypt, and comes to its end at the sea. This shall be your south boundary. 5 And the east boundary is the (DQ)Salt Sea, to the mouth of the Jordan. And the boundary on the north side runs from the bay of the sea at the mouth of the Jordan. 6 And the boundary goes up to (DR)Beth-hoglah and passes along north of (DS)Beth-arabah. And the boundary goes up to (DT)the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben. 7 And the boundary goes up to Debir from (DU)the Valley of Achor, and so northward, turning toward Gilgal, which is opposite (DV)the ascent of Adummim, which is on the south side of the valley. And the boundary passes along to the waters of (DW)En-shemesh and ends at (DX)En-rogel. 8 Then the boundary goes up by (DY)the Valley of the Son of Hinnom at the southern shoulder of the Jebusite ((DZ)that is, Jerusalem). And the boundary goes up to the top of the mountain that lies over against the Valley of Hinnom, on the west, at the northern end of the Valley (EA)of Rephaim. 9 Then the boundary extends from the top of the mountain (EB)to the spring of the waters of Nephtoah, and from there to the cities of Mount Ephron. Then the boundary bends around to Baalah ((EC)that is, Kiriath-jearim). 10 And the boundary circles west of Baalah to Mount Seir, passes along to the northern shoulder of Mount Jearim (that is, Chesalon), and goes down to (ED)Beth-shemesh and passes along by (EE)Timnah. 11 The boundary goes out (EF)to the shoulder of the hill north of Ekron, then the boundary bends around to Shikkeron and passes along to Mount (EG)Baalah and goes out to Jabneel. Then the boundary comes to an end at the sea. 12 And the west boundary was (EH)the Great Sea with its coastline. This is the boundary around the people of Judah according to their clans.
13 According to the commandment of the Lord to Joshua, he gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh a portion among the people of Judah, (EI)Kiriath-arba, that is, (EJ)Hebron (Arba was the father of Anak). 14 And Caleb drove out from there the three sons of Anak, (EK)Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai, the descendants of Anak. 15 And he went up from there against the inhabitants of Debir. (EL)Now the name of Debir formerly was Kiriath-sepher. 16 And Caleb said, “He who attacks Kiriath-sepher and captures it, I will give him Achsah my daughter as wife.” 17 (EM)And Othniel the son of Kenaz, (EN)the brother of Caleb, captured it. And he gave him Achsah his daughter as wife. 18 When she came to him, she urged him to ask her father for a field. And she dismounted from her donkey, and Caleb said to her, “What do you want?” 19 She said to him, “Give me a blessing. Since you have given me the land of the Negeb, give me also springs of water.” And he gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.
20 This is the inheritance of the tribe of the people of Judah according to their clans. 21 The cities belonging to the tribe of the people of Judah in the extreme south, toward the boundary of Edom, were Kabzeel, (EO)Eder, Jagur, 22 Kinah, Dimonah, Adadah, 23 Kedesh, Hazor, Ithnan, 24 (EP)Ziph, Telem, Bealoth, 25 Hazor-hadattah, Kerioth-hezron (that is, Hazor), 26 Amam, Shema, Moladah, 27 Hazar-gaddah, Heshmon, Beth-pelet, 28 Hazar-shual, (EQ)Beersheba, Biziothiah, 29 Baalah, Iim, Ezem, 30 Eltolad, Chesil, Hormah, 31 (ER)Ziklag, Madmannah, Sansannah, 32 Lebaoth, Shilhim, Ain, and Rimmon: in all, twenty-nine cities with their villages.
33 And in the lowland, (ES)Eshtaol, Zorah, Ashnah, 34 Zanoah, En-gannim, Tappuah, Enam, 35 (ET)Jarmuth, (EU)Adullam, (EV)Socoh, (EW)Azekah, 36 Shaaraim, Adithaim, Gederah, Gederothaim: fourteen cities with their villages.
