The Gentiles Bless Zion

60 Arise, (A)shine;
For your light has come!
And (B)the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.
For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth,
And deep darkness the people;
But the Lord will arise over you,
And His glory will be seen upon you.
The (C)Gentiles shall come to your light,
And kings to the brightness of your rising.

“Lift(D) up your eyes all around, and see:
They all gather together, (E)they come to you;
Your sons shall come from afar,
And your daughters shall be nursed at your side.
Then you shall see and become radiant,
And your heart shall swell with joy;
Because (F)the abundance of the sea shall be turned to you,
The wealth of the Gentiles shall come to you.
The multitude of camels shall cover your land,
The dromedaries of Midian and (G)Ephah;
All those from (H)Sheba shall come;
They shall bring (I)gold and incense,
And they shall proclaim the praises of the Lord.
All the flocks of (J)Kedar shall be gathered together to you,
The rams of Nebaioth shall minister to you;
They shall ascend with (K)acceptance on My altar,
And (L)I will glorify the house of My glory.

“Who are these who fly like a cloud,
And like doves to their roosts?
(M)Surely the coastlands shall wait for Me;
And the ships of Tarshish will come first,
(N)To bring your sons from afar,
(O)Their silver and their gold with them,
To the name of the Lord your God,
And to the Holy One of Israel,
(P)Because He has glorified you.

10 “The(Q) sons of foreigners shall build up your walls,
(R)And their kings shall minister to you;
For (S)in My wrath I struck you,
(T)But in My favor I have had mercy on you.
11 Therefore your gates (U)shall be open continually;
They shall not be shut day or night,
That men may bring to you the wealth of the Gentiles,
And their kings in procession.
12 (V)For the nation and kingdom which will not serve you shall perish,
And those nations shall be utterly ruined.

13 “The(W) glory of Lebanon shall come to you,
The cypress, the pine, and the box tree together,
To beautify the place of My sanctuary;
And I will make (X)the place of My feet glorious.
14 Also the sons of those who afflicted you
Shall come (Y)bowing to you,
And all those who despised you shall (Z)fall prostrate at the soles of your feet;
And they shall call you The City of the Lord,
(AA)Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

15 “Whereas you have been forsaken and hated,
So that no one went through you,
I will make you an eternal excellence,
A joy of many generations.
16 You shall drink the milk of the Gentiles,
(AB)And milk the breast of kings;
You shall know that (AC)I, the Lord, am your Savior
And your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.

17 “Instead of bronze I will bring gold,
Instead of iron I will bring silver,
Instead of wood, bronze,
And instead of stones, iron.
I will also make your officers peace,
And your magistrates righteousness.
18 Violence shall no longer be heard in your land,
Neither [a]wasting nor destruction within your borders;
But you shall call (AD)your walls Salvation,
And your gates Praise.

God the Glory of His People

19 “The (AE)sun shall no longer be your light by day,
Nor for brightness shall the moon give light to you;
But the Lord will be to you an everlasting light,
And (AF)your God your glory.
20 (AG)Your sun shall no longer go down,
Nor shall your moon withdraw itself;
For the Lord will be your everlasting light,
And the days of your mourning shall be ended.
21 (AH)Also your people shall all be righteous;
(AI)They shall inherit the land forever,
(AJ)The branch of My planting,
(AK)The work of My hands,
That I may be glorified.
22 (AL)A little one shall become a thousand,
And a small one a strong nation.
I, the Lord, will hasten it in its time.”

The Good News of Salvation

61 “The (AM)Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me,
Because the Lord (AN)has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me (AO)to [b]heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim (AP)liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
(AQ)To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,
And (AR)the day of vengeance of our God;
(AS)To comfort all who mourn,
To [c]console those who mourn in Zion,
(AT)To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
(AU)The planting of the Lord, (AV)that He may be glorified.”

And they shall (AW)rebuild the old ruins,
They shall raise up the former desolations,
And they shall repair the ruined cities,
The desolations of many generations.
(AX)Strangers shall stand and feed your flocks,
And the sons of the foreigner
Shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers.
(AY)But you shall be named the priests of the Lord,
They shall call you the servants of our God.
(AZ)You shall eat the riches of the Gentiles,
And in their glory you shall boast.
(BA)Instead of your shame you shall have double honor,
And instead of confusion they shall rejoice in their portion.
Therefore in their land they shall possess double;
Everlasting joy shall be theirs.

“For (BB)I, the Lord, love justice;
(BC)I hate robbery [d]for burnt offering;
I will direct their work in truth,
(BD)And will make with them an everlasting covenant.
Their descendants shall be known among the Gentiles,
And their offspring among the people.
All who see them shall acknowledge them,
(BE)That they are the posterity whom the Lord has blessed.”

10 (BF)I will greatly rejoice in the Lord,
My soul shall be joyful in my God;
For (BG)He has clothed me with the garments of salvation,
He has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
(BH)As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments,
And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
11 For as the earth brings forth its bud,
As the garden causes the things that are sown in it to spring forth,
So the Lord God will cause (BI)righteousness and (BJ)praise to spring forth before all the nations.

Assurance of Zion’s Salvation

62 For Zion’s sake I will not [e]hold My peace,
And for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest,
Until her righteousness goes forth as brightness,
And her salvation as a lamp that burns.
(BK)The Gentiles shall see your righteousness,
And all (BL)kings your glory.
(BM)You shall be called by a new name,
Which the mouth of the Lord will name.
You shall also be (BN)a crown of glory
In the hand of the Lord,
And a royal diadem
In the hand of your God.
(BO)You shall no longer be termed (BP)Forsaken,[f]
Nor shall your land any more be termed (BQ)Desolate;[g]
But you shall be called [h]Hephzibah, and your land [i]Beulah;
For the Lord delights in you,
And your land shall be married.
For as a young man marries a virgin,
So shall your sons marry you;
And as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride,
(BR)So shall your God rejoice over you.

Striving and Suffering for Christ

27 Only (A)let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, (B)with one mind (C)striving together for the faith of the gospel, 28 and not in any way terrified by your adversaries, which is to them a proof of perdition, but [a]to you of salvation, and that from God. 29 For to you (D)it has been granted on behalf of Christ, (E)not only to believe in Him, but also to (F)suffer for His sake, 30 (G)having the same conflict (H)which you saw in me and now hear is in me.

Unity Through Humility

Therefore if there is any [b]consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any (I)affection and mercy, (J)fulfill my joy (K)by being like-minded, having the same love, being of (L)one accord, of one mind. (M)Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but (N)in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. (O)Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of (P)others.

The Humbled and Exalted Christ

(Q)Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, (R)being in the form of God, did not consider it [c]robbery to be equal with God, (S)but [d]made Himself of no reputation, taking the form (T)of a bondservant, and (U)coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and (V)became (W)obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. (X)Therefore God also (Y)has highly exalted Him and (Z)given Him the name which is above every name, 10 (AA)that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and (AB)that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Light Bearers

12 Therefore, my beloved, (AC)as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, (AD)work out your own salvation with (AE)fear and trembling; 13 for (AF)it is God who works in you both to will and to do (AG)for His good pleasure.

14 Do all things (AH)without [e]complaining and (AI)disputing,[f] 15 that you may become blameless and [g]harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as (AJ)lights in the world, 16 holding fast the word of life, so that (AK)I may rejoice in the day of Christ that (AL)I have not run in vain or labored in (AM)vain.

17 Yes, and if (AN)I am being poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice (AO)and service of your faith, (AP)I am glad and rejoice with you all. 18 For the same reason you also be glad and rejoice with me.

Glory and Universality of the Messiah’s Reign

A Psalm (A)of Solomon.

72 Give the king Your judgments, O God,
And Your righteousness to the king’s Son.
(B)He will judge Your people with righteousness,
And Your poor with justice.
(C)The mountains will bring peace to the people,
And the little hills, by righteousness.
(D)He will bring justice to the poor of the people;
He will save the children of the needy,
And will [a]break in pieces the oppressor.

[b]They shall fear You
(E)As long as the sun and moon endure,
Throughout all generations.
(F)He shall come down like rain upon the grass before mowing,
Like showers that water the earth.
In His days the righteous shall flourish,
(G)And abundance of peace,
Until the moon is no more.

(H)He shall have dominion also from sea to sea,
And from the River to the ends of the earth.
(I)Those who dwell in the wilderness will bow before Him,
(J)And His enemies will lick the dust.
10 (K)The kings of Tarshish and of the isles
Will bring presents;
The kings of Sheba and Seba
Will offer gifts.
11 (L)Yes, all kings shall fall down before Him;
All nations shall serve Him.

12 For He (M)will deliver the needy when he cries,
The poor also, and him who has no helper.
13 He will spare the poor and needy,
And will save the souls of the needy.
14 He will redeem their life from oppression and violence;
And (N)precious shall be their blood in His sight.

15 And He shall live;
And the gold of (O)Sheba will be given to Him;
Prayer also will be made for Him continually,
And daily He shall be praised.

16 There will be an abundance of grain in the earth,
On the top of the mountains;
Its fruit shall wave like Lebanon;
(P)And those of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth.

17 (Q)His name shall endure forever;
His name shall continue as long as the sun.
And (R)men shall be blessed in Him;
(S)All nations shall call Him blessed.

18 (T)Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel,
(U)Who only does wondrous things!
19 And (V)blessed be His glorious name forever!
(W)And let the whole earth be filled with His glory.
Amen and Amen.

20 The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.

11 (A)Deliver those who are drawn toward death,
And hold back those stumbling to the slaughter.

Does not (B)He who weighs the hearts consider it?
He who keeps your soul, does He not know it?
And will He not render to each man (C)according to his deeds?
