Then the word of Yahweh of hosts came to me, saying, “Speak to all the people of the land and to the priests, saying, ‘When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months [a]these (A)seventy years, was it actually for (B)Me that you fasted? And when you eat and when you drink, [b]are you not eating for yourselves and are you not drinking for yourselves? Are not these the words which Yahweh (C)called out by the hand of the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and (D)at ease along with its cities around it, and the [c](E)Negev and the [d]Shephelah were inhabited?’”

Should you not have obeyed the words that the Lord cried out through the former prophets when Jerusalem was peacefully inhabited and her surrounding cities, the Negev, and the foothills[b] were also populated?’”
