³ Then he said to me, “This is ^(A)the curse that goes out over the face of the whole land. For everyone who ^(B)steals shall be cleaned out according to what is on one side, and everyone who ^(C)swears falsely^[a] shall be cleaned out according to what is on the other side.

¹² But above all, my brothers, ^(A)do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation.

The Righteous Shall Live by Faith

¹⁰ For all who rely on works of the law are ^(A)under a curse; for it is written, ^(B)“Cursed be everyone who does not ^(C)abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.” ¹¹ Now it is evident that ^(D)no one is justified before God by the law, for ^(E)“The righteous shall live by faith.”^{[a] 12} But the law is not of faith, rather ^(F)“The one who does them shall live by them.” ¹³ Christ ^(G)redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, ^(H)“Cursed is everyone who is hanged ^(I)on a tree”—

⁶ And he will ^(A)turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and ^(B)strike the land with a decree of utter destruction.”^[a]

⁴ I will send it out, declares the Lord of hosts, and it shall enter the house of the thief, and the house of ^(A)him who swears falsely by my name. And ^(B)it shall remain in his house and ^(C)consume it, both timber and stones.”
