Desolation of Israel
11 Open (A)your doors, O Lebanon,
That fire may devour your cedars.
2 Wail, O cypress, for the (B)cedar has fallen,
Because the mighty trees are ruined.
Wail, O oaks of Bashan,
(C)For the thick forest has come down.
3 There is the sound of wailing (D)shepherds!
For their glory is in ruins.
There is the sound of roaring lions!
For the [a]pride of the Jordan is in ruins.
Prophecy of the Shepherds
4 Thus says the Lord my God, “Feed the flock for slaughter, 5 whose owners slaughter them and (E)feel no guilt; those who sell them (F)say, ‘Blessed be the Lord, for I am rich’; and their shepherds do (G)not pity them. 6 For I will no longer pity the inhabitants of the land,” says the Lord. “But indeed I will give everyone into his neighbor’s hand and into the hand of his king. They shall [b]attack the land, and I will not deliver them from their hand.”
7 So I fed the flock for slaughter, [c]in particular (H)the poor of the flock. I took for myself two staffs: the one I called [d]Beauty, and the other I called [e]Bonds; and I fed the flock. 8 I [f]dismissed the three shepherds (I)in one month. My soul loathed them, and their soul also abhorred me. 9 Then I said, “I will not feed you. (J)Let what is dying die, and what is perishing perish. Let those that are left eat each other’s flesh.” 10 And I took my staff, [g]Beauty, and cut it in two, that I might break the covenant which I had made with all the peoples. 11 So it was broken on that day. Thus (K)the[h] poor of the flock, who were watching me, knew that it was the word of the Lord. 12 Then I said to them, “If it is [i]agreeable to you, give me my wages; and if not, refrain.” So they (L)weighed out for my wages thirty pieces of silver.
13 And the Lord said to me, “Throw it to the (M)potter”—that princely price they set on me. So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them into the house of the Lord for the potter. 14 Then I cut in two my other staff, [j]Bonds, that I might break the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.
15 And the Lord said to me, (N)“Next, take for yourself the implements of a foolish shepherd. 16 For indeed I will raise up a shepherd in the land who will not care for those who are cut off, nor seek the young, nor heal those that are broken, nor feed those that still stand. But he will eat the flesh of the fat and tear their hooves in (O)pieces.
17 “Woe(P) to the worthless shepherd,
Who leaves the flock!
A sword shall be against his arm
And against his right eye;
His arm shall completely wither,
And his right eye shall be totally blinded.”

Chapter 11
1 Open your doors, O Lebanon,
so that the fire may devour your cedars.
2 Wail, you cypress trees,
for the cedars have fallen,
the majestic trees have been ravaged.
Wail, you oaks of Bashan,
for the impenetrable forest has been felled.
3 Listen to the wailing of the shepherds,
for their majesty has been destroyed.
Listen to the roar of the lions,
for the dense thickets of the Jordan have been ravaged.
The New Shepherd of Israel
The Two Shepherds.[a] 4 Thus says the Lord, my God: Be a shepherd to the flock destined for slaughter. 5 Those who buy them kill them and go unpunished, while those who sell them say, “Blessed be the Lord, for I have become rich.” Even their own shepherds feel no pity for them.
6 I will no longer have any pity for the inhabitants of the earth, says the Lord. Rather, I will deliver each one of them into the power of his neighbor or into the clutches of the king. They will devastate the earth, and I will not deliver anyone from their hands.
7 And so I became a shepherd of the flock that was destined to be slaughtered by the sheep dealers. I took two staffs, one of which I named Favor and the other one of which I named Unity, and I pastured the sheep myself. 8 In a single month I got rid of the three shepherds. However, I soon lost patience with the flock, and they detested me.
9 Finally I said. “I will not be your shepherd any longer. What is to die, let it die. What is to be destroyed, let it be destroyed. Those who are left can devour one another.”
10 Then I took my staff “Favor” and snapped it in two, thereby annulling the covenant I had made with all the peoples. 11 Therefore, it was annulled on that day, and the dealers who were watching me realized that this was the word of the Lord. 12 I said to them, “If it seems right to you, give me my wages; if not, then forget about it.” Then they weighed out my wages, thirty pieces of silver.
13 However, the Lord said to me, “Throw it into the treasury—the princely sum at which they valued my efforts.” Therefore, I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them into the treasury of the house of the Lord. 14 Then I broke my second staff, “Unity,” in half, annulling the ties of brotherhood between Judah and Israel.
15 The Lord thereupon said to me: Take once again the equipment of a worthless shepherd. 16 For I am now going to raise up a shepherd in the land who will have no concern for those who are perishing, nor go off in search of the strays, nor heal the injured, nor nourish those who survive, but who will eat the meat of the fat animals, tearing off even their hoofs.
17 Woe to the worthless shepherd
who abandons his flock.
May the sword fall upon his arm
and upon his right eye.
Let his arm be completely withered
and his right eye be totally blinded.

- Zechariah 11:4 The separation of the Samaritans became final around 328 B.C., and foreign invasions will occur from the fourth to the second century. At the end, an editor has added a curse against a wicked leader. Matthew 27:9-10 quite rightly applies to Jesus what is said (Zec 11:12-13) about the derisive wage of thirty pieces of silver: the one who came to save humankind was repaid with hatred and betrayal.

4 Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul meu: „Păstoreşte oile care sunt pentru tăiere! 5 Cei ce le cumpără, le taie şi nu se simt vinovaţi, iar cei ce le vând, zic: «Binecuvântat să fie Domnul, căci ne-am îmbogăţit!» Nici chiar păstorii lor nu le cruţă! 6 Căci nu-i voi mai cruţa pe locuitorii ţării, zice Domnul, ci iată, îl voi da pe fiecare om pe mâna semenului său şi pe mâna regelui său! Ei vor devasta ţara, iar Eu n-o voi izbăvi din mâna lor.“
7 Am început să păstoresc oile care erau pentru tăiere, da, pe cele mai nenorocite oi din turmă. Am luat două toiege – pe unul l-am numit „Bunăvoinţă[c]“, iar pe celălalt l-am numit „Unire“ – şi am păstorit turma. 8 Într-o lună m-am descotorosit de cei trei păstori.
Sufletul meu nu i-a[d] mai răbdat, iar sufletul lor se scârbise şi el de mine! 9 Am zis: „Nu vă voi mai păstori! Cea care este pe moarte să moară, cea care este pentru tăiere să fie tăiată, iar cele ce vor rămâne, să se mănânce unele pe altele!“
10 Apoi mi-am luat toiagul numit „Bunăvoinţă“ şi l-am rupt, ca să rup astfel legământul pe care l-am încheiat cu toate popoarele. 11 A fost rupt în ziua aceea, iar oile cele nenorocite din turmă, care au luat seama la mine, au ştiut că acesta era Cuvântul Domnului.
12 Atunci le-am zis: „Dacă găsiţi cu cale, daţi-mi plata, dacă nu, nu mi-o daţi!“ Mi-au cântărit ca plată treizeci de arginţi[e].
13 Dar Domnul mi-a zis: „Aruncă olarului[f] preţul aceasta «scump»[g] la care am fost apreciat de către ei!“ Am luat cei treizeci de arginţi şi i-am aruncat olarului[h], în Casa Domnului.
14 Apoi am rupt şi cel de-al doilea toiag, numit „Unire“ , ca să rup astfel frăţia dintre Iuda şi Israel. 15 Domnul mi-a zis: „Ia din nou uneltele păstorului nebun! 16 Căci iată, voi ridica în ţară un păstor căruia nu-i va păsa de oile care pier; pe cea tânără n-o va căuta, pe cea rănită n-o va vindeca şi pe cea sănătoasă n-o va hrăni, ci va mânca carnea celor grase şi le va smulge copitele.
17 Vai de păstorul de nimic,
care îşi părăseşte turma!
Să cadă sabia peste braţul lui
şi pe ochiul lui cel drept!
Să i se usuce braţul în întregime
şi să-i orbească de tot ochiul drept!“
