From [a]them will come the (A)cornerstone,
From [b]them the tent peg,
From [c]them the bow of [d](B)battle,
From [e]them every good [f]taskmaster, all of them together.
And they will be as mighty men,
(C)Treading down the enemy in the mire of the streets in battle;
And they will battle, for Yahweh will be with them;
And the (D)riders on horses will be put to shame.
I will (E)make the house of Judah mighty,
And I will (F)save the house of Joseph,
And I will [g](G)cause them to return,
Because I have had (H)compassion on them;
And they will be as though I had (I)not rejected them,
For I am Yahweh their God, and I will (J)answer them.
And Ephraim will be like a mighty man,
And their heart will be glad as if from wine;
Indeed, their (K)children will see it and be glad;
[h]Their heart will rejoice in Yahweh.
I will (L)whistle for them to gather them together,
For I have redeemed them;
And they will be as (M)numerous as they (N)were [i]before.
And I will sow them among the peoples,
And they will (O)remember Me in far countries,
And they with their children will live and turn back.
10 Then I will cause them to (P)return from the land of Egypt
And gather them from Assyria;
And I will bring them into the land of (Q)Gilead and Lebanon
[j]Until (R)no room can be found for them.
11 And [k]they will pass through the (S)sea of distress,
And He will strike the waves in the sea,
So that all the depths of the (T)Nile will dry up;
And the pride of (U)Assyria will be brought down,
And the scepter of (V)Egypt will depart.
12 And I will (W)make them mighty in Yahweh,
And in His name (X)they will walk,” declares Yahweh.

From them[a] the cornerstone will go out,
    from them[b] the tent peg,
from them[c] the battle bow,
    from them[d] every ruler,
        all together.
And they will be like warriors,
    trampling in the mud of the streets in the battle.
They will fight, because Yahweh is with them,
    and they will put to shame the riders on horses.
And I will strengthen the house of Judah,
    and the house of Joseph I will save.
And I will bring them back, because I have compassion on them,
    and they will be as if I had not rejected them,
    for I am Yahweh their God, and I will answer them.
And the people of Ephraim will be like a warrior,
    and their heart will be glad as with wine.
And their children will see and rejoice;
    their heart will shout in exultation in Yahweh.
I will whistle to them and gather them,
    for I have redeemed them,
    and they will become numerous as they have been numerous before.
Though I sow[e] them among the nations,
    in the distant places they will remember me,
    and they will stay alive with their children, and they will return.
10 And I will bring them back from the land of Egypt,
    and from Assyria I will gather them.
To the land of Gilead and Lebanon I will bring them,
    until no room will be found for them there.
11 And he[f] will pass through the sea of distress,
    and he will strike the waves of the sea,
    and all the depths of the Nile will dry up.
The pride of Assyria will be brought low,
    and the scepter of Egypt will depart.
12 I will make them strong in Yahweh,
    and in his name they will walk,
        declares[g] Yahweh.
