³ “My anger burns against the shepherds,
    and I will punish the leaders;^(A)
for the Lord Almighty will care
    for his flock, the people of Judah,
    and make them like a proud horse in battle.^(B)
4 From Judah will come the cornerstone,^(C)
    from him the tent peg,^(D)
from him the battle bow,^(E)
    from him every ruler.
⁵ Together they^[a] will be like warriors in battle
    trampling their enemy into the mud of the streets.^(F)
They will fight because the Lord is with them,
    and they will put the enemy horsemen to shame.^(G)

⁸ The remnant of Jacob will be among the nations,
    in the midst of many peoples,
like a lion among the beasts of the forest,^(A)
    like a young lion among flocks of sheep,
which mauls and mangles^(B) as it goes,
    and no one can rescue.^(C)
9 Your hand will be lifted up^(D) in triumph over your enemies,
    and all your foes will be destroyed.

⁵ And he will be our peace^(A)
    when the Assyrians invade^(B) our land
    and march through our fortresses.
We will raise against them seven shepherds,
    even eight commanders,^(C)
6 who will rule^[a] the land of Assyria with the sword,
    the land of Nimrod^(D) with drawn sword.^[b](E)
He will deliver us from the Assyrians
    when they invade our land
    and march across our borders.^(F)

²¹ Deliverers^(A) will go up on^[a] Mount Zion
    to govern the mountains of Esau.
    And the kingdom will be the Lord’s.^(B)

¹⁵ If anyone does attack you, it will not be my doing;
    whoever attacks you will surrender^(A) to you.

¹⁶ “See, it is I who created the blacksmith^(B)
    who fans the coals into flame
    and forges a weapon^(C) fit for its work.
And it is I who have created the destroyer^(D) to wreak havoc;
¹⁷     no weapon forged against you will prevail,^(E)
    and you will refute^(F) every tongue that accuses you.
This is the heritage of the servants^(G) of the Lord,
    and this is their vindication^(H) from me,”
declares the Lord.
