22 Och han visade mig en flod med livets vatten, klar som kristall. Den går ut från Guds och Lammets tron. ²Mitt på stadens gata, på båda sidor om floden, står livets träd som bär frukt tolv gånger, varje månad bär det frukt, och trädets blad ger läkedom åt folken. ³Och ingen förbannelse skall finnas mer. Guds och Lammets tron skall stå i staden, och hans tjänare skall tjäna honom. ⁴De skall se hans ansikte, och hans namn skall stå skrivet på deras pannor. ⁵Någon natt skall inte finnas mer, och de behöver inte någon lampas sken eller solens ljus. Ty Herren Gud skall lysa över dem, och de skall regera som kungar i evigheternas evigheter.

⁶Och han sade till mig: "Dessa ord är trovärdiga och sanna, och Herren, profeternas andars Gud, har sänt sin ängel för att visa sina tjänare vad som snart måste ske."

Jag kommer snart

⁷"Och se, jag kommer snart. Salig är den som håller fast vid profetians ord i denna bok."

⁸Det är jag, Johannes, som har hört och sett detta. Och när jag hade hört och sett det, föll jag ner för att tillbe framför fötterna på ängeln som hade visat mig detta. ⁹Men han sade till mig: "Gör inte det! Jag är tjänare liksom du och dina bröder profeterna och de som håller fast vid orden i denna bok. Gud skall du tillbe."

¹⁰Och han sade till mig: "Försegla inte profetians ord i denna bok. Ty tiden är nära. ¹¹Den orättfärdige må fortsätta att göra orätt, den orene att orena sig, den rättfärdige må fortsätta att göra vad som är rätt och den helige att helga sig."

¹²"Se, jag kommer snart och har min lön med mig för att ge var och en efter hans gärningar. ¹³Jag är A och O, den förste och den siste, begynnelsen och änden. ¹⁴Saliga är de som tvättar sina kläder. De skall få rätt till livets träd och få komma in i staden genom dess portar. ¹⁵Men utanför är hundarna och trollkarlarna, de otuktiga och mördarna, avgudadyrkarna och alla som älskar lögn och far med osanning.

¹⁶Jag, Jesus, har sänt min ängel för att vittna för er om allt detta i församlingarna. Jag är Davids rotskott och hans ättling, den klara morgonstjärnan."

¹⁷Och Anden och bruden säger: "Kom!" Och den som hör det må säga: "Kom!" Och den som törstar må komma. Ja, den som vill, må ta emot livets vatten för intet.

¹⁸För var och en som hör profetians ord i denna bok betygar jag: Om någon lägger något till dessa ord skall Gud på honom lägga de plågor som det är skrivet om i denna bok. ¹⁹Och om någon tar bort något från de ord som står i denna profetias bok, skall Gud ta ifrån honom hans del i livets träd och i den heliga staden, som det står skrivet om i denna bok. ²⁰Han som betygar detta säger: "Ja, jag kommer snart." Amen, kom, Herre Jesus! ²¹Herren Jesu nåd vare med alla.

Floden med livets vatten

22 Han visade mig sedan en flod med livets vatten, klar som kristall, och den flöt fram från Guds och Lammets tron, ²mitt i den stora gatan. På båda sidor om floden växte livets träd, som bär frukt tolv gånger om året och ger skörd varje månad, och bladen från träden är läkemedel för folken.^[a]

³Ingen förbannelse ska finnas mer. Guds och Lammets tron ska stå i staden, och hans tjänare ska tjäna honom. ⁴De ska se hans ansikte, och hans namn ska stå skrivet på deras pannor. ⁵Det ska aldrig mer bli någon natt, och ingen behöver längre några lampor eller solens ljus, för Herren Gud ska lysa över dem. Och de ska regera i all evighet.

⁶Efter det sa han till mig: ”Detta budskap är trovärdigt och sant. Herren, som är Gud över profeternas andar, har sänt sin ängel för att visa sina tjänare vad som snart måste hända.”

Jesus kommer snart

⁷”Se, jag kommer snart! Lycklig är den som tar vara på profetians ord i den här boken.”

⁸Det var jag, Johannes, som fick höra och se allt detta. När jag hade hört och sett allt föll jag ner för att tillbe ängeln som hade visat det för mig, ⁹men han sa: ”Nej, gör inte det! Jag är bara Guds tjänare, precis som du och dina bröder profeterna och alla de som tar vara på det som står i den här boken. Det är Gud du ska tillbe.” ¹⁰Och han sa till mig: ”Försegla inte profetians ord i den här boken, för tiden är nära. ¹¹Den som är orättfärdig ska fortsätta att göra det som är orättfärdigt, och den som är oren ska fortsätta att orena sig. Men den som är rättfärdig ska fortsätta att vara rättfärdig, och den som är helig ska fortsätta att hålla sig helig.”

Inbjudan och varning

¹²”Se, jag kommer snart, och jag har med mig lön som ska ges till var och en efter hans gärningar. ¹³Jag är alfa och omega,^[b] den förste och den siste, början och slutet.”

¹⁴Lyckliga är de som tvättar sina dräkter rena,^[c] för de ska få rätt att äta av frukten från livets träd och gå in genom stadens portar. ¹⁵Men utanför står hundarna, de som har sysslat med ockultism, ägnat sig åt sexuell omoral, och mördarna, avgudadyrkarna och alla som har älskat lögnen och levt sitt liv i lögn.

¹⁶”Jag, Jesus, har sänt min ängel till er för att vittna om detta för församlingarna. Jag är Davids rotskott och hans ättling, den strålande morgonstjärnan.^[d]”

¹⁷Anden och bruden^[e] säger: ”Kom!” Den som hör det ska också säga: ”Kom!” Den som är törstig ska komma, för den som vill får dricka av livets vatten^[f] helt gratis.

¹⁸Men jag vittnar för alla som lyssnar till det profetiska budskapet i den här boken: Om någon lägger till något till det, ska Gud låta honom drabbas av alla de plågor som det står om i boken. ¹⁹Och om någon tar bort något från det profetiska budskapet i den här boken, ska Gud ta ifrån honom hans del i livets träd och den heliga staden, som det står om i den här boken.

²⁰Han som vittnar om detta säger: ”Ja, jag kommer snart!”

Amen. Kom, Herre Jesus!

Eden Restored

22 Then the angel showed me the river^(A) of the water of life,^(B) as clear as crystal,^(C) flowing^(D) from the throne of God and of the Lamb ²down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life,^(E) bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.^(F) ³No longer will there be any curse.^(G) The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him.^(H) ⁴They will see his face,^(I) and his name will be on their foreheads.^(J) ⁵There will be no more night.^(K) They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light.^(L) And they will reign for ever and ever.^(M)

John and the Angel

⁶The angel said to me,^(N) “These words are trustworthy and true.^(O) The Lord, the God who inspires the prophets,^(P) sent his angel^(Q) to show his servants the things that must soon take place.”

⁷“Look, I am coming soon!^(R) Blessed^(S) is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy written in this scroll.”^(T)

⁸I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things.^(U) And when I had heard and seen them, I fell down to worship at the feet^(V) of the angel who had been showing them to me. ⁹But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your fellow prophets and with all who keep the words of this scroll.^(W) Worship God!”^(X)

¹⁰Then he told me, “Do not seal up^(Y) the words of the prophecy of this scroll,^(Z) because the time is near.^(AA) ¹¹Let the one who does wrong continue to do wrong; let the vile person continue to be vile; let the one who does right continue to do right; and let the holy person continue to be holy.”^(AB)

Epilogue: Invitation and Warning

¹²“Look, I am coming soon!^(AC) My reward is with me,^(AD) and I will give to each person according to what they have done.^(AE) ¹³I am the Alpha and the Omega,^(AF) the First and the Last,^(AG) the Beginning and the End.^(AH)

¹⁴“Blessed are those who wash their robes,^(AI) that they may have the right to the tree of life^(AJ) and may go through the gates^(AK) into the city.^(AL) ¹⁵Outside^(AM) are the dogs,^(AN) those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

¹⁶“I, Jesus,^(AO) have sent my angel^(AP) to give you^[a] this testimony for the churches.^(AQ) I am the Root^(AR) and the Offspring of David,^(AS) and the bright Morning Star.”^(AT)

¹⁷The Spirit^(AU) and the bride^(AV) say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.^(AW)

¹⁸I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll:^(AX) If anyone adds anything to them,^(AY) God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll.^(AZ) ¹⁹And if anyone takes words away^(BA) from this scroll of prophecy,^(BB) God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life^(BC) and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.

²⁰He who testifies to these things^(BD) says, “Yes, I am coming soon.”^(BE)

Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.^(BF)

¹³I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

¹⁴Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

¹⁵For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

¹⁶I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.

The Time Is Near
