Domen ska gå också över Jerusalem
3 Ve det orena och syndfulla Jerusalem, den grymma och ondskefulla staden!
2 I sin stolthet vill hon inte ens lyssna till Herrens röst. Ingen kan säga något till henne, för hon vägrar att ta emot rättelse. Hon litar inte på Herren, hon söker inte Gud.
3 Hennes ledare är som rytande lejon som jagar efter byte och försöker roffa åt sig allt de kan. Hennes domare är som hungriga vargar. De jagar i skymningen, och i gryningen finns inte ett spår kvar av det byte de fällt under natten.
4 Hennes profeter är lögnare som söker sitt eget, hennes präster orenar templet med sin olydnad mot Guds lagar.
5 Men Herren är där inne i staden, och han gör inget orätt. För var dag blir hans rättvisa mer uppenbar, men ingen frågar efter den. De ogudaktiga har ingen skam i kroppen.
6 Jag har utrotat många folk och rivit ner deras fästen. Jag har lämnat deras gator övergivna och deras städer ödelagda utan en enda överlevande som kan berätta vad som hänt.
7 Jag tänkte: 'Nu ska de väl lyssna till mig och ta vara på mina varningar så att jag inte behöver slå dem på nytt'. Men nej! Hur mycket jag än straffade dem, fortsatte de på sina ogudaktiga vägar.
8 Men Herren säger: Ha tålamod! Snart kommer den dag då jag ska stå upp och anklaga dessa ogudaktiga folk. För jag har beslutat mig för att samla alla kungariken på jorden och tömma min vrede över dem. Hela jorden ska förgöras i min heliga vredes eld.
En dag av hopp ska komma
9 Vid den tiden ska jag ge folken ett rent språk, så att alla kan tillbe Herren tillsammans och tjäna honom sida vid sida.
10 De som bor långt bortom floderna i Etiopien ska komma med sina offer och be mig att bli deras Gud igen.
11 Då ska ni inte längre behöva skämmas, och ni ska inte längre göra uppror mot mig, för jag ska utrota alla stolta och högmodiga människor bland er. Det ska inte finnas någon stolthet eller något högmod på mitt heliga berg.
12 De som blir kvar är de ödmjuka som litar på Herrens namn.
13 Den kvarleva som återstår av Israel kommer inte att synda, ljuga och bedra. De ska leva i frid och ro, lägga sig till vila i trygghet och ingen ska kunna skrämma dem.
14 Sjung, dotter Sion! Jubla, Israel! Var glad och fröjda dig av hela ditt hjärta!
15 Herren har tagit bort straffdomarna över dig och förskingrat din fiendes arméer. Och Herren själv, Israels kung, ska bo bland er. Äntligen är era svårigheter över, och ni ska inte längre behöva vara rädda för någonting.
16 På den dagen ska man säga till alla i Jerusalem: Var inte rädda, håll modet uppe!
17-18 Herren, er Gud, har kommit för att bo bland er. Han är en hjälte som kan frälsa! Han ska glädjas över er, och han älskar er och ska inte anklaga er mer. Hör jag en kör som sjunger glädjesånger? Nej, det är Herren själv som fröjdas över er i en glädjesång:Jag har samlat era sårade och tvättat bort er skam.
19 Jag ska allvarligt gå till rätta med era förtryckare.Jag ska rädda de svaga och hjälplösa och samla ihop dem som jagats bort. Jag ska upprätta de landsflyktiga som blivit hånade och vanärade.
20 På den dagen ska jag samla er igen, föra er tillbaka hem och ge er ett namn med ära, ett väl ansett namn bland alla folk på jorden, och de ska prisa er när jag inför era egna ögon återlämnar era rikedomar, säger Herren.

3 Woe to her that is filthy and polluted, to the oppressing city!
2 She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in the Lord; she drew not near to her God.
3 Her princes within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they gnaw not the bones till the morrow.
4 Her prophets are light and treacherous persons: her priests have polluted the sanctuary, they have done violence to the law.
5 The just Lord is in the midst thereof; he will not do iniquity: every morning doth he bring his judgment to light, he faileth not; but the unjust knoweth no shame.
6 I have cut off the nations: their towers are desolate; I made their streets waste, that none passeth by: their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man, that there is none inhabitant.
7 I said, Surely thou wilt fear me, thou wilt receive instruction; so their dwelling should not be cut off, howsoever I punished them: but they rose early, and corrupted all their doings.
8 Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the Lord, until the day that I rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy.
9 For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the Lord, to serve him with one consent.
10 From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia my suppliants, even the daughter of my dispersed, shall bring mine offering.
11 In that day shalt thou not be ashamed for all thy doings, wherein thou hast transgressed against me: for then I will take away out of the midst of thee them that rejoice in thy pride, and thou shalt no more be haughty because of my holy mountain.
12 I will also leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the Lord.
13 The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid.
14 Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem.
15 The Lord hath taken away thy judgments, he hath cast out thine enemy: the king of Israel, even the Lord, is in the midst of thee: thou shalt not see evil any more.
16 In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear thou not: and to Zion, Let not thine hands be slack.
17 The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.
18 I will gather them that are sorrowful for the solemn assembly, who are of thee, to whom the reproach of it was a burden.
19 Behold, at that time I will undo all that afflict thee: and I will save her that halteth, and gather her that was driven out; and I will get them praise and fame in every land where they have been put to shame.
20 At that time will I bring you again, even in the time that I gather you: for I will make you a name and a praise among all people of the earth, when I turn back your captivity before your eyes, saith the Lord.

3 AY de la ciudad ensuciada y contaminada y opresora!
2 No escuchó la voz, ni recibió la disciplina: no se confió en Jehová, no se acercó á su Dios.
3 Sus príncipes en medio de ella son leones bramadores: sus jueces, lobos de tarde que no dejan hueso para la mañana:
4 Sus profetas, livianos, hombres prevaricadores: sus sacerdotes contaminaron el santuario, falsearon la ley.
5 Jehová justo en medio de ella, no hará iniquidad: de mañana sacará á luz su juicio, nunca falta: mas el perverso no tiene vergüenza.
6 Hice talar gentes; sus castillos están asolados; hice desiertas sus calles, hasta no quedar quien pase: sus ciudades están asoladas hasta no quedar hombre, hasta no quedar morador.
7 Dije: Ciertamente me temerás, recibirás corrección; y no será su habitación derruída por todo aquello sobre que los visité. Mas ellos se levantaron de mañana y corrompieron todas sus obras.
8 Por tanto, esperadme, dice Jehová, al día que me levantaré al despojo: porque mi determinación es reunir las gentes, juntar los reinos, para derramar sobre ellos mi enojo, todo el furor de mi ira; porque del fuego de mi celo será consumida toda la tierra.
9 Por entonces volveré yo á los pueblos el labio limpio, para que todos invoquen el nombre de Jehová, para que de un consentimiento le sirvan.
10 De esa parte de los ríos de Etiopía, mis suplicantes, la hija de mis esparcidos, me traerán ofrenda.
11 En aquel día no serás avergonzada por ninguna de tus obras con que te rebelaste contra mí; porque entonces quitaré de en medio de ti los que se alegran en tu soberbia, y nunca más te ensoberbecerás del monte de mi santidad.
12 Y dejaré en medio de ti un pueblo humilde y pobre, los cuales esperarán en el nombre de Jehová.
13 El resto de Israel no hará iniquidad, ni dirá mentira, ni en boca de ellos se hallará lengua engañosa: porque ellos serán apacentados y dormirán, y no habrá quien los espante.
14 Canta, oh hija de Sión: da voces de júbilo, oh Israel; gózate y regocíjate de todo corazón, hija de Jerusalem.
15 Jehová ha apartado tus juicios, ha echado fuera tus enemigos: Jehová es Rey de Israel en medio de ti; nunca más verás mal.
16 En aquel tiempo se dirá á Jerusalem: No temas: Sión, no se debiliten tus manos.
17 Jehová en medio de ti, poderoso, él salvará; gozaráse sobre ti con alegría, callará de amor, se regocijará sobre ti con cantar.
18 Reuniré á los fastidiados por causa del largo tiempo; tuyos fueron; para quienes el oprobio de ella era una carga.
19 He aquí, en aquel tiempo yo apremiaré á todos tus opresores; y salvaré la coja, y recogeré la descarriada; y pondrélos por alabanza y por renombre en todo país de confusión.
20 En aquel tiempo yo os traeré, en aquel tiempo os reuniré yo; pues os daré por renombre y por alabanza entre todos los pueblos de la tierra, cuando tornaré vuestros cautivos delante de vuestros ojos, dice Jehová.

God waarschuwt de bewoners van Jeruzalem opnieuw
3 De Heer zegt: "Het zal slecht met jou aflopen, jij slechte, bedorven stad Jeruzalem die bloed vergiet! 2 Je wil niet naar Mij luisteren. Je wil niets doen met mijn waarschuwingen. Je vertrouwt niet op de Heer. Je gaat niet naar je God toe. 3 Je koningen lijken op brullende leeuwen. Je rechters lijken op verslindende wolven die niets overlaten tot de volgende ochtend. 4 Je profeten zeggen maar wat. Ze zijn niet trouw aan Mij. Je priesters hebben het heiligdom bedorven met hun gedrag. Ze houden zich niet aan mijn wet. 5 Ik, de rechtvaardige Heer, woon in jou, Jeruzalem. Ik doe nooit iets wat onrechtvaardig is. Elke ochtend is mijn rechtvaardigheid te zien. Maar slechte mensen schamen zich nergens voor.
6 Ik heb volken vernietigd, hun muren en torens vernield. Ik heb hun straten leeggemaakt: er is niemand meer. Hun steden zijn puinhopen, zonder mensen, zonder bewoners. 7 Ik zei tegen jou, Jeruzalem: 'Heb toch diep ontzag voor Mij! Luister naar mijn waarschuwingen! Dan zul je niet vernietigd worden door de straf waarmee Ik je ga straffen.' Maar je hebt altijd zó graag slechte dingen willen doen! 8 Reken er daarom maar op dat Ik zal opstaan om over jou recht te spreken. Ik zal je straffen door de volken tegen je te verzamelen. Zij zullen je verwoesten. Ik zal in mijn woede dit hele land vernietigen, zegt de Heer."
God belooft Jeruzalem een nieuwe tijd
9 De Heer zegt: "Maar daarna zal Ik de volken andere, zuivere lippen geven. Daardoor zullen ze allemaal Mij aanbidden. Ze zullen met elkaar Mij dienen. 10 De bewoners van Jeruzalem die waren weggejaagd naar de overkant van de rivieren van Ethiopië, zullen Mij in Jeruzalem offers brengen. 11 Dan zul je je niet meer hoeven te schamen over alle dingen waarmee je Mij ongehoorzaam bent geweest, Jeruzalem. Want dan zal Ik alle mensen uit je weggehaald hebben die blij zijn over je straf voor je trots. Je zal voortaan niet meer trots zijn, daar op mijn heilige berg. 12 Maar Ik zal in jou een klein, bescheiden volk overlaten dat op Mij zal vertrouwen. 13 De mensen die van mijn volk zijn overgebleven, zullen niet meer oneerlijk zijn, niet meer liegen, niet meer bedriegen. Ze zullen rustig kunnen wonen, zonder dat iemand hun nog kwaad doet.
14 Zing blij, Jeruzalem! Juich, Israël, wees vrolijk en blij! 15 De Heer zal je niet langer straffen. Hij heeft je vijanden vernietigd. De Koning van Israël woont Zelf bij je. Er zal je geen kwaad meer overkomen. 16 In die tijd zal tegen Jeruzalem worden gezegd: 'Wees niet bang, Jeruzalem, wees niet langer bang. 17 Je Heer God woont bij je. Hij is de held die jou bevrijdt. Hij zal van vreugde over je zingen. Uit liefde zal Hij zwijgen over alles wat je verkeerd hebt gedaan. Hij zal over je juichen van blijdschap.' 18 De mensen die bedroefd zijn omdat ze mijn feesten niet meer kunnen vieren, zal Ik verzamelen. Want ze horen erbij. Jeruzalem, je hoeft je niet langer te schamen. 19 In die tijd zal Ik afrekenen met al je vijanden. Jullie zijn mijn schapen. De zwakke schapen zal Ik redden en de verstoten schapen zal Ik weer terugbrengen. Zij die eerst door iedereen uitgelachen werden, zullen nu geëerd en geprezen worden. 20 In die tijd zal Ik jullie naar je land terugbrengen. Want Ik zal jullie weer verzamelen. Jullie zullen beroemd worden. Alle landen en volken zullen jullie prijzen. Jullie zullen met eigen ogen zien dat Ik een einde maak aan jullie gevangenschap en Ik zal weer goed voor jullie zijn, zegt de Heer.

she does not draw near(G) to her God.

who leave nothing for the morning.(J)

Morning by morning(O) he dispenses his justice,

Jerusalem Remains Unrepentant
6 “I have destroyed nations;
their strongholds are demolished.
I have left their streets deserted,
with no one passing through.
Their cities are laid waste;(R)
they are deserted and empty.
7 Of Jerusalem I thought,
‘Surely you will fear me
and accept correction!’(S)
Then her place of refuge[a] would not be destroyed,
nor all my punishments come upon[b] her.
But they were still eager
to act corruptly(T) in all they did.
8 Therefore wait(U) for me,”
declares the Lord,
“for the day I will stand up to testify.[c]
I have decided to assemble(V) the nations,(W)
to gather the kingdoms
and to pour out my wrath(X) on them—
all my fierce anger.(Y)
The whole world will be consumed(Z)
by the fire of my jealous anger.
Restoration of Israel’s Remnant
9 “Then I will purify the lips of the peoples,
that all of them may call(AA) on the name of the Lord(AB)
and serve(AC) him shoulder to shoulder.
10 From beyond the rivers of Cush[d](AD)
my worshipers, my scattered people,
will bring me offerings.(AE)
11 On that day you, Jerusalem, will not be put to shame(AF)
for all the wrongs you have done to me,(AG)
because I will remove from you
your arrogant boasters.(AH)
Never again will you be haughty
on my holy hill.(AI)
12 But I will leave within you
the meek(AJ) and humble.
The remnant of Israel
will trust(AK) in the name of the Lord.
13 They(AL) will do no wrong;(AM)
they will tell no lies.(AN)
A deceitful tongue
will not be found in their mouths.(AO)
They will eat and lie down(AP)
and no one will make them afraid.(AQ)”
14 Sing, Daughter Zion;(AR)
shout aloud,(AS) Israel!
Be glad and rejoice(AT) with all your heart,
Daughter Jerusalem!
15 The Lord has taken away your punishment,
he has turned back your enemy.
The Lord, the King of Israel, is with you;(AU)
never again will you fear(AV) any harm.(AW)
16 On that day
they will say to Jerusalem,
“Do not fear, Zion;
do not let your hands hang limp.(AX)
17 The Lord your God is with you,
the Mighty Warrior who saves.(AY)
He will take great delight(AZ) in you;
in his love he will no longer rebuke you,(BA)
but will rejoice over you with singing.”(BB)
18 “I will remove from you
all who mourn over the loss of your appointed festivals,
which is a burden and reproach for you.
19 At that time I will deal
with all who oppressed(BC) you.
I will rescue the lame;
I will gather the exiles.(BD)
I will give them praise(BE) and honor
in every land where they have suffered shame.
20 At that time I will gather you;
at that time I will bring(BF) you home.
I will give you honor(BG) and praise(BH)
among all the peoples of the earth
when I restore your fortunes[e](BI)
before your very eyes,”
says the Lord.
