²² So Naomi returned from Moab accompanied by Ruth the Moabite,^(A) her daughter-in-law,^(B) arriving in Bethlehem as the barley harvest^(C) was beginning.^(D)

Ruth Meets Boaz in the Grain Field

2 Now Naomi had a relative^(E) on her husband’s side, a man of standing^(F) from the clan of Elimelek,^(G) whose name was Boaz.^(H)

² And Ruth the Moabite^(I) said to Naomi, “Let me go to the fields and pick up the leftover grain^(J) behind anyone in whose eyes I find favor.^(K)”

Naomi said to her, “Go ahead, my daughter.” ³ So she went out, entered a field and began to glean behind the harvesters.^(L) As it turned out, she was working in a field belonging to Boaz, who was from the clan of Elimelek.^(M)

Naomi Gains a Son

¹³ So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife. When he made love to her, the Lord enabled her to conceive,^(A) and she gave birth to a son.^(B)
