Israel’s Rejection and God’s Justice

¹⁴What shall we say then? ^(A)Is there unrighteousness with God? Certainly not! ¹⁵For He says to Moses, ^(B)“I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.” ¹⁶So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy. ¹⁷For ^(C)the Scripture says to the Pharaoh, ^(D)“For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth.” ¹⁸Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He ^(E)hardens.

¹⁴What, then, shall we say? unrighteousness [is] with God? let it not be!

¹⁵for to Moses He saith, `I will do kindness to whom I do kindness, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion;'

¹⁶so, then -- not of him who is willing, nor of him who is running, but of God who is doing kindness:

¹⁷for the Writing saith to Pharaoh -- `For this very thing I did raise thee up, that I might shew in thee My power, and that My name might be declared in all the land;'

¹⁸so, then, to whom He willeth, He doth kindness, and to whom He willeth, He doth harden.
