¹⁴ For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, ^(A)sold under sin.

^17 (A)And they burned their sons and their daughters as offerings^[a] and used ^(B)divination and ^(C)omens and ^(D)sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking him to anger.

Ahab's Repentance

²⁵ (^(A)There was none who sold himself to do what was evil in the sight of the Lord like Ahab, whom Jezebel his wife incited.

²⁰ Ahab said to Elijah, ^(A)“Have you found me, O my enemy?” He answered, “I have found you, because ^(B)you have sold yourself to do what is evil in the sight of the Lord.

¹⁸ For I know that nothing good dwells ^(A)in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.

¹¹ The Pharisee, ^(A)standing by himself, prayed^{[a] (B)}thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. ^12 (C)I fast twice a week; ^(D)I give tithes of all that I get.’ ¹³ But the tax collector, ^(E)standing far off, ^(F)would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but ^(G)beat his breast, saying, ‘God, ^(H)be merciful to me, a sinner!’ ¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For ^(I)everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

³⁷ And he said to him, ^(A)“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. ³⁸ This is the great and first commandment. ³⁹ And ^(B)a second is like it: ^(C)You shall love your neighbor as yourself. ^40 (D)On these two commandments depend ^(E)all the Law and the Prophets.”

²³ But he turned and said to Peter, ^(A)“Get behind me, Satan! You are ^(B)a hindrance^[a] to me. For you ^(C)are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”

²² But I say to you that ^(A)everyone who is angry with his brother^[a] will be liable ^(B)to judgment; whoever insults^[b] his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to ^(C)the hell^[c] of fire.
