5 We are made good people and put right with God when we believe in Jesus Christ. So now we have peace with God because of what our Lord Jesus Christ did.
2 Because we believe, Christ has brought us to the place where God can do us good. We are in that place now. We are very happy because we have the hope that we shall see God's greatness.
3 And not only is that true, but we are very happy in our troubles, because we know that trouble makes us stronger.
4 When we are strong to take trouble, we prove that we believe. When we prove that we believe, we have hope.
5 We will not be disappointed by this hope. God has given us the Holy Spirit. And the Holy Spirit has put God's love in our hearts.
6 We could not help ourselves. So at the right time, Christ died to save us bad people.
7 Almost no one would die to save even a good man. But perhaps someone would die to save a very good man.
8 God shows his love for us in this way: Christ died to save us while we were bad people.
9 The blood of Christ has now put us right with God. So even more, he will save us from God's strong anger.
10 When we were enemies, the death of his Son brought us back to God. Now that we are made right with God, it is the life of Jesus that will save us.
11 Not only is that true, but it is through our Lord Jesus Christ that we can enjoy God. This is for all who have been brought back to God by him.
12 One man [Adam] did a wrong thing. And the wrong thing he did made him die. So all men die because all have done wrong things.
13 People in the world were not right with God before he gave the law. But wrong things are not punished when there is no law.
14 Yet death ruled over people from Adam's time to Moses' time. It even ruled over the people who were not as wrong as Adam. Adam was like a person who would come later.
15 But the free gift is not like the wrong thing. Many people died because one man did a wrong thing. This is sure. God was very kind and he gave a free gift. This gift was given to many people because one man, Jesus Christ, did a very kind thing.
16 The free gift is not like the wrong thing one man did. Because of that one man people were judged. And they were punished. Because many people did wrong things, God gave his free gift and many people were made right with him.
17 One man did a wrong thing. And so death ruled over people because of that one man. God has been kind to people and given them his free gift. That gift is to make people right with God. People who take that gift will live and rule because of one man, Jesus Christ.
18 One man did a wrong thing. And so all people were punished through him. But Christ did the right thing. And so all people can have the free gift of life through being put right with God.
19 One man did not obey. And so many people were bad people. One man obeyed. And so many people will be made right with God.
20 When the law came, it showed how wrong people really were. But when people were really bad, God was even more kind.
21 The wrong things people did ruled over them, and they died. Now God has been very kind. He has made people right with him. So now God's blessing will rule over them, and they will live for ever. Jesus Christ our Lord has done this for them.

Faith Brings Joy
5 Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace[a] with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. 2 Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.
3 We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. 4 And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. 5 And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.
6 When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. 7 Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. 8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. 9 And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation. 10 For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. 11 So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.
Adam and Christ Contrasted
12 When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. 13 Yes, people sinned even before the law was given. But it was not counted as sin because there was not yet any law to break. 14 Still, everyone died—from the time of Adam to the time of Moses—even those who did not disobey an explicit commandment of God, as Adam did. Now Adam is a symbol, a representation of Christ, who was yet to come. 15 But there is a great difference between Adam’s sin and God’s gracious gift. For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ. 16 And the result of God’s gracious gift is very different from the result of that one man’s sin. For Adam’s sin led to condemnation, but God’s free gift leads to our being made right with God, even though we are guilty of many sins. 17 For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.
18 Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone. 19 Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous.
20 God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant. 21 So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

5 Giustificati dunque per la fede, noi siamo in pace con Dio per mezzo del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo; 2 per suo mezzo abbiamo anche ottenuto, mediante la fede, di accedere a questa grazia nella quale ci troviamo e ci vantiamo nella speranza della gloria di Dio. 3 E non soltanto questo: noi ci vantiamo anche nelle tribolazioni, ben sapendo che la tribolazione produce pazienza, la pazienza una virtù provata 4 e la virtù provata la speranza. 5 La speranza poi non delude, perché l'amore di Dio è stato riversato nei nostri cuori per mezzo dello Spirito Santo che ci è stato dato.
6 Infatti, mentre noi eravamo ancora peccatori, Cristo morì per gli empi nel tempo stabilito. 7 Ora, a stento si trova chi sia disposto a morire per un giusto; forse ci può essere chi ha il coraggio di morire per una persona dabbene. 8 Ma Dio dimostra il suo amore verso di noi perché, mentre eravamo ancora peccatori, Cristo è morto per noi. 9 A maggior ragione ora, giustificati per il suo sangue, saremo salvati dall'ira per mezzo di lui. 10 Se infatti, quand'eravamo nemici, siamo stati riconciliati con Dio per mezzo della morte del Figlio suo, molto più ora che siamo riconciliati, saremo salvati mediante la sua vita. 11 Non solo, ma ci gloriamo pure in Dio, per mezzo del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo, dal quale ora abbiamo ottenuto la riconciliazione.
A. Liberazione dal peccato, dalla morte e dalla legge

12 Quindi, come a causa di un solo uomo il peccato è entrato nel mondo e con il peccato la morte, così anche la morte ha raggiunto tutti gli uomini, perché tutti hanno peccato. 13 Fino alla legge infatti c'era peccato nel mondo e, anche se il peccato non può essere imputato quando manca la legge, 14 la morte regnò da Adamo fino a Mosè anche su quelli che non avevano peccato con una trasgressione simile a quella di Adamo, il quale è figura di colui che doveva venire.
15 Ma il dono di grazia non è come la caduta: se infatti per la caduta di uno solo morirono tutti, molto di più la grazia di Dio e il dono concesso in grazia di un solo uomo, Gesù Cristo, si sono riversati in abbondanza su tutti gli uomini. 16 E non è accaduto per il dono di grazia come per il peccato di uno solo: il giudizio partì da un solo atto per la condanna, il dono di grazia invece da molte cadute per la giustificazione. 17 Infatti se per la caduta di uno solo la morte ha regnato a causa di quel solo uomo, molto di più quelli che ricevono l'abbondanza della grazia e del dono della giustizia regneranno nella vita per mezzo del solo Gesù Cristo.
18 Come dunque per la colpa di uno solo si è riversata su tutti gli uomini la condanna, così anche per l'opera di giustizia di uno solo si riversa su tutti gli uomini la giustificazione che dà vita. 19 Similmente, come per la disobbedienza di uno solo tutti sono stati costituiti peccatori, così anche per l'obbedienza di uno solo tutti saranno costituiti giusti.
20 La legge poi sopraggiunse a dare piena coscienza della caduta, ma laddove è abbondato il peccato, ha sovrabbondato la grazia, 21 perché come il peccato aveva regnato con la morte, così regni anche la grazia con la giustizia per la vita eterna, per mezzo di Gesù Cristo nostro Signore.

5 Therefore, since we have been justified(A) through faith,(B) we[a] have peace(C) with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,(D) 2 through whom we have gained access(E) by faith into this grace in which we now stand.(F) And we[b] boast in the hope(G) of the glory of God. 3 Not only so, but we[c] also glory in our sufferings,(H) because we know that suffering produces perseverance;(I) 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope(J) does not put us to shame, because God’s love(K) has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit,(L) who has been given to us.
6 You see, at just the right time,(M) when we were still powerless,(N) Christ died for the ungodly.(O) 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.(P)
9 Since we have now been justified(Q) by his blood,(R) how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath(S) through him! 10 For if, while we were God’s enemies,(T) we were reconciled(U) to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!(V) 11 Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.(W)
Death Through Adam, Life Through Christ
12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man,(X) and death through sin,(Y) and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned(Z)—
13 To be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone’s account where there is no law.(AA) 14 Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam,(AB) who is a pattern of the one to come.(AC)
15 But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man,(AD) how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ,(AE) overflow to the many! 16 Nor can the gift of God be compared with the result of one man’s sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. 17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death(AF) reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life(AG) through the one man, Jesus Christ!
18 Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people,(AH) so also one righteous act resulted in justification(AI) and life(AJ) for all people. 19 For just as through the disobedience of the one man(AK) the many were made sinners,(AL) so also through the obedience(AM) of the one man the many will be made righteous.
20 The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase.(AN) But where sin increased, grace increased all the more,(AO) 21 so that, just as sin reigned in death,(AP) so also grace(AQ) might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life(AR) through Jesus Christ our Lord.

15 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.
16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.
17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
