3 Then what advantage has the Jew? Or what is the value of circumcision? 2 Much, in every way. For in the first place the Jews[a] were entrusted with the oracles of God. 3 What if some were unfaithful? Will their faithlessness nullify the faithfulness of God? 4 By no means! Although everyone is a liar, let God be proved true, as it is written,
‘So that you may be justified in your words,
and prevail in your judging.’[b]
5 But if our injustice serves to confirm the justice of God, what should we say? That God is unjust to inflict wrath on us? (I speak in a human way.) 6 By no means! For then how could God judge the world? 7 But if through my falsehood God’s truthfulness abounds to his glory, why am I still being condemned as a sinner? 8 And why not say (as some people slander us by saying that we say), ‘Let us do evil so that good may come’? Their condemnation is deserved!
None Is Righteous
9 What then? Are we any better off?[c] No, not at all; for we have already charged that all, both Jews and Greeks, are under the power of sin, 10 as it is written:
‘There is no one who is righteous, not even one;
11 there is no one who has understanding,
there is no one who seeks God.
12 All have turned aside, together they have become worthless;
there is no one who shows kindness,
there is not even one.’
13 ‘Their throats are opened graves;
they use their tongues to deceive.’
‘The venom of vipers is under their lips.’
14 ‘Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.’
15 ‘Their feet are swift to shed blood;
16 ruin and misery are in their paths,
17 and the way of peace they have not known.’
18 ‘There is no fear of God before their eyes.’
19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced, and the whole world may be held accountable to God. 20 For ‘no human being will be justified in his sight’ by deeds prescribed by the law, for through the law comes the knowledge of sin.
Righteousness through Faith
21 But now, irrespective of law, the righteousness of God has been disclosed, and is attested by the law and the prophets, 22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ[d] for all who believe. For there is no distinction, 23 since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God; 24 they are now justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God put forward as a sacrifice of atonement[e] by his blood, effective through faith. He did this to show his righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over the sins previously committed; 26 it was to prove at the present time that he himself is righteous and that he justifies the one who has faith in Jesus.[f]
27 Then what becomes of boasting? It is excluded. By what law? By that of works? No, but by the law of faith. 28 For we hold that a person is justified by faith apart from works prescribed by the law. 29 Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, 30 since God is one; and he will justify the circumcised on the ground of faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith. 31 Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law.

No One Is Righteous

The Righteousness of God Through Faith
21 But now (AD)the righteousness of God (AE)has been manifested apart from the law, although (AF)the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— 22 the righteousness of God (AG)through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. (AH)For there is no distinction: 23 for (AI)all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 (AJ)and are justified (AK)by his grace as a gift, (AL)through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God (AM)put forward as (AN)a propitiation (AO)by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in (AP)his divine forbearance he had passed over (AQ)former sins. 26 It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

3 Mi akkor a zsidó előnye, vagy mi a körülmetélés haszna?
2 Minden szempontból sok. Elsősorban az, hogy Isten rájuk bízta igéit.
3 Mi következik azonban ebből? Ha egyesek hűtlenné váltak, vajon az ő hűtlenségük megszünteti-e Isten hűségét?
4 Szó sincs róla! Sőt azt kell mondanunk: igaz az Isten, az emberek pedig valamennyien hazugok, amint meg van írva: "Igaznak kell bizonyulnod beszédeidben, és győznöd kell, amikor perelnek veled."
5 Ha pedig éppen a mi hamisságunk teszi nyilvánvalóvá Isten igazságát, akkor mit mondjunk? Emberi módon szólok: igazságtalan az Isten, hogy kiönti ránk haragját?
6 Szó sincs róla! Hiszen akkor hogyan ítélhetné meg Isten a világot?
7 Mert ha Isten igazsága az én hazugságom által lett naggyá az ő dicsőségére, akkor miért esem én még mindig ítélet alá, mint bűnös?
8 Vagy talán igaz az, amivel rágalmaznak minket, és amit állítanak némelyek? Hogy tudniillik így beszélünk: tegyük a rosszat, hogy a jó következzék belőle! Az ilyeneket méltán sújtja az ítélet!
Isten előtt nincsen igaz ember
9 Mi tehát az igazság? Különbek vagyunk? Egyáltalában nem! Hiszen előbb már kimondtuk azt az ítéletet, hogy zsidók is, görögök is mind bűnben vannak,
10 amint meg van írva: "Nincsen igaz ember egy sem,
11 nincsen, aki értse, nincsen, aki keresse Istent.
12 Mind elhajlottak, valamennyien megromlottak, és nincsen, aki jót tegyen, nincs egyetlen egy sem.
13 Nyitott sír a torkuk, nyelvükkel ámítanak, kígyóméreg az ajkukon;
14 szájuk átokkal és keserűséggel van tele.
15 Lábuk gyors a vérontásra,
16 romlás és nyomorúság jár a nyomukban,
17 és a békesség útját nem ismerik:
18 Isten félelmével nem törődnek."
19 Tudjuk pedig, hogy amit a törvény mond, azt a törvény alatt élőknek mondja, hogy elnémuljon minden száj, és az egész világot Isten ítélje meg.
20 Mert a törvény cselekedeteiből nem fog megigazulni egyetlen halandó sem őelőtte. Hiszen a törvényből csak a bűn felismerése adódik.
Isten igazsága minden emberé kegyelemből, hit által
21 Most pedig a törvény nélkül jelent meg Isten igazsága, amelyről bizonyságot is tesznek a törvény és a próféták.
22 Isten pedig ezt az igazságát most nyilvánvalóvá tette a Krisztusban való hit által minden hívőnek. Mert nincs különbség:
23 mindenki vétkezett, és híjával van az Isten dicsőségének.
24 Ezért Isten ingyen igazítja meg őket kegyelméből, miután megváltotta őket a Krisztus Jézus által.
25 Mert az Isten őt rendelte engesztelő áldozatul azoknak, akik az ő vérében hisznek, hogy igazságát megmutassa. Isten ugyanis az előbb elkövetett bűnöket elnézte
26 türelme idején, hogy e mostani időben mutassa meg igazságát: mert ahogyan ő igaz, igazzá teszi azt is, aki Jézusban hisz.
27 Hogyan lehetséges akkor a dicsekvés? Lehetetlenné vált. Milyen törvény által? A cselekedeteké által? Nem, hanem a hit "törvénye" által.
28 Hiszen azt tartjuk, hogy hit által igazul meg az ember, a törvény cselekvésétől függetlenül.
29 Vagy Isten kizárólag a zsidóké? Nem a pogányoké is? Bizony, a pogányoké is;
30 mert egy az Isten, aki megigazítja a körülmetéltet hitből, a körülmetéletlent pedig hit által.
31 Érvénytelenné tesszük tehát a törvényt a hit által? Szó sincs róla! Sőt inkább érvényt szerzünk a törvénynek.

2 Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.
3 For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?
4 God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.
5 But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who taketh vengeance? (I speak as a man)
6 God forbid: for then how shall God judge the world?
7 For if the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory; why yet am I also judged as a sinner?
8 And not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.
9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;
10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:
14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:
15 Their feet are swift to shed blood:
16 Destruction and misery are in their ways:
17 And the way of peace have they not known:
18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.
19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.
28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
29 Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:
30 Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.
31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.
