Peace with God Through Faith

(A)Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, (B)we[a] have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also (C)obtained access by faith[b] into this grace (D)in which we stand, and (E)we[c] rejoice[d] in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we (F)rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering (G)produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and (H)hope does not put us to shame, because God's love (I)has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

For (J)while we were still weak, at the right time (K)Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but (L)God shows his love for us in that (M)while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, (N)we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from (O)the wrath of God. 10 For if (P)while we were enemies (Q)we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by (R)his life. 11 More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received (S)reconciliation.

Peace and Hope

Therefore, since we have been justified(A) through faith,(B) we[a] have peace(C) with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,(D) through whom we have gained access(E) by faith into this grace in which we now stand.(F) And we[b] boast in the hope(G) of the glory of God. Not only so, but we[c] also glory in our sufferings,(H) because we know that suffering produces perseverance;(I) perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope(J) does not put us to shame, because God’s love(K) has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit,(L) who has been given to us.

You see, at just the right time,(M) when we were still powerless,(N) Christ died for the ungodly.(O) Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.(P)

Since we have now been justified(Q) by his blood,(R) how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath(S) through him! 10 For if, while we were God’s enemies,(T) we were reconciled(U) to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!(V) 11 Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.(W)

The Passover Celebrated

And the Lord spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, (A)in the first month of the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt, saying, “Let the people of Israel keep the Passover at its appointed time. (B)On the fourteenth day of this month, at twilight, you shall keep it at its appointed time; according to all its statutes and all its rules you shall keep it.” So Moses told the people of Israel that they should keep the Passover. And they kept the Passover in the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, at twilight, in the wilderness of Sinai; according to all that the Lord commanded Moses, so the people of Israel did. And there were certain men who were (C)unclean through touching a dead body, so that they could not keep the Passover on that day, and (D)they came before Moses and Aaron on that day. And those men said to him, “We are unclean through touching a dead body. Why are we kept from bringing the Lord's (E)offering at its appointed time among the people of Israel?” And Moses said to them, “Wait, that (F)I may hear what the Lord will command concerning you.”

The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 10 “Speak to the people of Israel, saying, If any one of you or of your descendants is unclean through touching a dead body, or is on a long journey, he shall still keep the Passover to the Lord. 11 (G)In the second month on the fourteenth day at twilight they shall keep it. (H)They shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. 12 (I)They shall leave none of it until the morning, (J)nor break any of its bones; (K)according to all the statute for the Passover they shall keep it. 13 But if anyone who is clean and is not on a journey fails to keep the Passover, (L)that person shall be cut off from his people because he did not bring the Lord's (M)offering at its appointed time; that man shall bear his sin. 14 And if a stranger sojourns among you and would keep the Passover to the Lord, according to the statute of the Passover and according to its rule, so shall he do. (N)You shall have one statute, both for the sojourner and for the native.”

The Cloud Covering the Tabernacle

15 (O)On the day that the tabernacle was set up, the cloud covered the tabernacle, the tent of the testimony. And (P)at evening it was over the tabernacle like the appearance of fire until morning. 16 So it was always: the cloud covered it by day[a] and the appearance of fire by night. 17 And whenever the cloud (Q)lifted from over the tent, after that the people of Israel set out, and in the place where the cloud settled down, there the people of Israel camped. 18 At the command of the Lord the people of Israel set out, and at the command of the Lord they camped. (R)As long as the cloud rested over the tabernacle, they remained in camp. 19 Even when the cloud continued over the tabernacle many days, the people of Israel (S)kept the charge of the Lord and did not set out. 20 Sometimes the cloud was a few days over the tabernacle, and according to the command of the Lord they remained in camp; then according to the command of the Lord they set out. 21 And sometimes the cloud remained from evening until morning. And when the cloud lifted in the morning, they set out, or if it continued for a day and a night, when the cloud lifted they set out. 22 Whether it was two days, or a month, or a longer time, that the cloud continued over the tabernacle, abiding there, the people of Israel (T)remained in camp and did not set out, but when it lifted they set out. 23 At the command of the Lord they camped, and at the command of the Lord they set out. (U)They kept the charge of the Lord, at the command of the Lord by Moses.

The Silver Trumpets

10 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Make two silver trumpets. Of hammered work you shall make them, and you shall use them for (V)summoning the congregation and for breaking camp. And when (W)both are blown, all the congregation shall gather themselves to you at the entrance of the tent of meeting. But if they blow only one, then (X)the chiefs, the heads of the tribes of Israel, shall gather themselves to you. When you blow an alarm, (Y)the camps that are on the east side shall set out. And when you blow an alarm the second time, (Z)the camps that are on the south side shall set out. An alarm is to be blown whenever they are to set out. But when the assembly is to be gathered together, (AA)you shall blow a long blast, but you shall not (AB)sound an alarm. (AC)And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow the trumpets. The trumpets shall be to you for a perpetual statute throughout your generations. And (AD)when you go to war in your land against the adversary who (AE)oppresses you, then you shall (AF)sound an alarm with the trumpets, that you may be (AG)remembered before the Lord your God, and you shall be saved from your enemies. 10 (AH)On the day of your gladness also, and at your appointed feasts and (AI)at the beginnings of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings. They shall be (AJ)a reminder of you before your God: I am the Lord your God.”

Israel Leaves Sinai

11 In the second year, in the second month, on the twentieth day of the month, (AK)the cloud lifted from over the tabernacle of the testimony, 12 and the people of Israel (AL)set out by stages from the (AM)wilderness of Sinai. And the cloud settled down in the (AN)wilderness of Paran. 13 They set out for the first time (AO)at the command of the Lord by Moses. 14 The standard of the camp of the people of Judah set out (AP)first by their companies, and over their company was (AQ)Nahshon the son of Amminadab. 15 And over the company of the tribe of the people of Issachar was Nethanel the son of Zuar. 16 And over the company of the tribe of the people of Zebulun was Eliab the son of Helon.

17 And when (AR)the tabernacle was taken down, the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari, (AS)who carried the tabernacle, set out. 18 And (AT)the standard of the camp of Reuben set out by their companies, and over their company was (AU)Elizur the son of Shedeur. 19 And over the company of the tribe of the people of Simeon was (AV)Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai. 20 And over the company of the tribe of the people of Gad was (AW)Eliasaph the son of (AX)Deuel.

21 Then the Kohathites set out, (AY)carrying the holy things, and (AZ)the tabernacle was set up before their arrival. 22 And (BA)the standard of the camp of the people of Ephraim set out by their companies, and over their company was (BB)Elishama the son of Ammihud. 23 And over the company of the tribe of the people of Manasseh was (BC)Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur. 24 And over the company of the tribe of the people of Benjamin was (BD)Abidan the son of Gideoni.

25 Then (BE)the standard of the camp of the people of Dan, acting as the (BF)rear guard of all the camps, set out by their companies, and over their company was (BG)Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai. 26 And over the company of the tribe of the people of Asher was (BH)Pagiel the son of Ochran. 27 And over the company of the tribe of the people of Naphtali was (BI)Ahira the son of Enan. 28 (BJ)This was the order of march of the people of Israel by their companies, when they set out.

29 And Moses said to Hobab the son of (BK)Reuel the Midianite, Moses' father-in-law, “We are setting out for the place of which the Lord said, (BL)‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us, and we will do good to you, for (BM)the Lord has promised good to Israel.” 30 But he said to him, “I will not go. I will depart to my own land and to my kindred.” 31 And he said, “Please do not leave us, for you know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you will serve (BN)as eyes for us. 32 And if you do go with us, (BO)whatever good the Lord will do to us, the same will we do to you.”

33 So they set out from (BP)the mount of the Lord three days' journey. And the ark of the covenant of the Lord went before them three days' journey, to seek out (BQ)a resting place for them. 34 (BR)And the cloud of the Lord was over them by day, whenever they set out from the camp.

35 And whenever the ark set out, Moses said, (BS)“Arise, O Lord, and let your enemies be scattered, and let those who hate you flee before you.” 36 And when it rested, he said, “Return, O Lord, to the ten thousand thousands of Israel.”

The People Complain

11 And (BT)the people complained in the hearing of the Lord about their misfortunes, and when the Lord heard it, (BU)his anger was kindled, and (BV)the fire of the Lord burned among them and consumed some outlying parts of the camp. Then (BW)the people cried out to Moses, (BX)and Moses prayed to the Lord, and the fire died down. So the name of that place was called (BY)Taberah,[b] because the fire of the Lord burned among them.

Now the (BZ)rabble that was among them had a strong craving. And the people of Israel also (CA)wept again and said, (CB)“Oh that we had meat to eat! (CC)We remember the fish we ate in Egypt that cost nothing, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic. But now our strength is dried up, and there is nothing at all but this manna to look at.”

Now (CD)the manna was like coriander seed, and its appearance like that of bdellium. (CE)The people went about and gathered it and ground it in handmills or beat it in mortars and boiled it in pots and made cakes of it. (CF)And the taste of it was like the taste of cakes baked with oil. (CG)When the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell with it.

10 Moses heard the people (CH)weeping throughout their clans, everyone at the door of his tent. And the anger of the Lord blazed hotly, and Moses was displeased. 11 (CI)Moses said to the Lord, “Why have you dealt ill with your servant? And why have I not found favor in your sight, that you lay the burden of all this people on me? 12 Did I conceive all this people? Did I give them birth, that you should say to me, (CJ)‘Carry them in your bosom, as a (CK)nurse carries a nursing child,’ to the land (CL)that you swore to give their fathers? 13 (CM)Where am I to get meat to give to all this people? For they weep before me and say, ‘Give us meat, that we may eat.’ 14 (CN)I am not able to carry all this people alone; the burden is too heavy for me. 15 If you will treat me like this, kill me at once, if I find favor in your sight, that I may not see my wretchedness.”

Elders Appointed to Aid Moses

16 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Gather for me (CO)seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people and (CP)officers over them, and bring them to the tent of meeting, and let them take their stand there with you. 17 (CQ)And I will come down and talk with you there. And (CR)I will take some of the Spirit that is on you and put it on them, and (CS)they shall bear the burden of the people with you, so that you may not bear it yourself alone. 18 And say to the people, (CT)‘Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, and you shall eat meat, for you have wept in the hearing of the Lord, saying, “Who will give us meat to eat? (CU)For it was better for us in Egypt.” Therefore the Lord will give you meat, and you shall eat. 19 You shall not eat just one day, or two days, or five days, or ten days, or twenty days, 20 but a whole month, (CV)until it comes out at your nostrils and becomes loathsome to you, because you have rejected the Lord who is among you and have wept before him, saying, (CW)“Why did we come out of Egypt?”’” 21 But Moses said, (CX)“The people among whom I am number six hundred thousand on foot, and you have said, ‘I will give them meat, that they may eat a whole month!’ 22 (CY)Shall flocks and herds be slaughtered for them, and be enough for them? Or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, and be enough for them?” 23 And the Lord said to Moses, (CZ)“Is the Lord's hand shortened? Now you shall see whether (DA)my word will come true for you or not.”

24 So Moses went out and told the people the words of the Lord. (DB)And he gathered seventy men of the elders of the people and placed them around the tent. 25 Then (DC)the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to him, and took some of the Spirit that was on him and put it on the seventy elders. And as soon as the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied. But they did not continue doing it.

26 Now two men remained in the camp, one named Eldad, and the other named Medad, and the Spirit rested on them. They were among those registered, but they (DD)had not gone out to the tent, and so they prophesied in the camp. 27 And a young man ran and told Moses, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.” 28 And (DE)Joshua the son of Nun, the assistant of Moses from his youth, said, “My lord Moses, (DF)stop them.” 29 But Moses said to him, “Are you jealous for my sake? (DG)Would that all the Lord's people were prophets, that the Lord would put his Spirit on them!” 30 And Moses and the elders of Israel returned to the camp.

Quail and a Plague

31 Then a (DH)wind from the Lord sprang up, and it brought quail from the sea and let them fall beside the camp, about a day's journey on this side and a day's journey on the other side, around the camp, and about two cubits[c] above the ground. 32 And the people rose all that day and all night and all the next day, and gathered the quail. Those who gathered least gathered ten (DI)homers.[d] And they spread them out for themselves all around the camp. 33 (DJ)While the meat was yet between their teeth, before it was consumed, the anger of the Lord was kindled against the people, and (DK)the Lord struck down the people with a very great plague. 34 Therefore the name of that place was called (DL)Kibroth-hattaavah,[e] because there they buried the people who had the craving. 35 (DM)From Kibroth-hattaavah the people journeyed to (DN)Hazeroth, and they remained at (DO)Hazeroth.

The Passover

The Lord spoke to Moses in the Desert of Sinai in the first month(A) of the second year after they came out of Egypt.(B) He said, “Have the Israelites celebrate the Passover(C) at the appointed time.(D) Celebrate it at the appointed time, at twilight on the fourteenth day of this month,(E) in accordance with all its rules and regulations.(F)

So Moses told the Israelites to celebrate the Passover,(G) and they did so in the Desert of Sinai(H) at twilight on the fourteenth day of the first month.(I) The Israelites did everything just as the Lord commanded Moses.(J)

But some of them could not celebrate the Passover on that day because they were ceremonially unclean(K) on account of a dead body.(L) So they came to Moses and Aaron(M) that same day and said to Moses, “We have become unclean because of a dead body, but why should we be kept from presenting the Lord’s offering with the other Israelites at the appointed time?(N)

Moses answered them, “Wait until I find out what the Lord commands concerning you.”(O)

Then the Lord said to Moses, 10 “Tell the Israelites: ‘When any of you or your descendants are unclean because of a dead body(P) or are away on a journey, they are still to celebrate(Q) the Lord’s Passover, 11 but they are to do it on the fourteenth day of the second month(R) at twilight. They are to eat the lamb, together with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.(S) 12 They must not leave any of it till morning(T) or break any of its bones.(U) When they celebrate the Passover, they must follow all the regulations.(V) 13 But if anyone who is ceremonially clean and not on a journey fails to celebrate the Passover, they must be cut off from their people(W) for not presenting the Lord’s offering at the appointed time. They will bear the consequences of their sin.

14 “‘A foreigner(X) residing among you is also to celebrate the Lord’s Passover in accordance with its rules and regulations. You must have the same regulations for both the foreigner and the native-born.’”

The Cloud Above the Tabernacle

15 On the day the tabernacle, the tent of the covenant law,(Y) was set up,(Z) the cloud(AA) covered it. From evening till morning the cloud above the tabernacle looked like fire.(AB) 16 That is how it continued to be; the cloud covered it, and at night it looked like fire.(AC) 17 Whenever the cloud lifted from above the tent, the Israelites set out;(AD) wherever the cloud settled, the Israelites encamped.(AE) 18 At the Lord’s command the Israelites set out, and at his command they encamped. As long as the cloud stayed over the tabernacle, they remained(AF) in camp. 19 When the cloud remained over the tabernacle a long time, the Israelites obeyed the Lord’s order(AG) and did not set out.(AH) 20 Sometimes the cloud was over the tabernacle only a few days; at the Lord’s command they would encamp, and then at his command they would set out. 21 Sometimes the cloud stayed only from evening till morning, and when it lifted in the morning, they set out. Whether by day or by night, whenever the cloud lifted, they set out. 22 Whether the cloud stayed over the tabernacle for two days or a month or a year, the Israelites would remain in camp and not set out; but when it lifted, they would set out. 23 At the Lord’s command they encamped, and at the Lord’s command they set out. They obeyed the Lord’s order, in accordance with his command through Moses.

The Silver Trumpets

10 The Lord said to Moses: “Make two trumpets(AI) of hammered silver, and use them for calling the community(AJ) together and for having the camps set out.(AK) When both are sounded, the whole community is to assemble before you at the entrance to the tent of meeting. If only one is sounded, the leaders(AL)—the heads of the clans of Israel—are to assemble before you. When a trumpet blast is sounded, the tribes camping on the east are to set out.(AM) At the sounding of a second blast, the camps on the south are to set out.(AN) The blast will be the signal for setting out. To gather the assembly, blow the trumpets,(AO) but not with the signal for setting out.(AP)

“The sons of Aaron, the priests, are to blow the trumpets. This is to be a lasting ordinance for you and the generations to come.(AQ) When you go into battle in your own land against an enemy who is oppressing you,(AR) sound a blast on the trumpets.(AS) Then you will be remembered(AT) by the Lord your God and rescued from your enemies.(AU) 10 Also at your times of rejoicing—your appointed festivals and New Moon feasts(AV)—you are to sound the trumpets(AW) over your burnt offerings(AX) and fellowship offerings,(AY) and they will be a memorial for you before your God. I am the Lord your God.(AZ)

The Israelites Leave Sinai

11 On the twentieth day of the second month of the second year,(BA) the cloud lifted(BB) from above the tabernacle of the covenant law.(BC) 12 Then the Israelites set out from the Desert of Sinai and traveled from place to place until the cloud came to rest in the Desert of Paran.(BD) 13 They set out, this first time, at the Lord’s command through Moses.(BE)

14 The divisions of the camp of Judah went first, under their standard.(BF) Nahshon son of Amminadab(BG) was in command. 15 Nethanel son of Zuar was over the division of the tribe(BH) of Issachar,(BI) 16 and Eliab son of Helon(BJ) was over the division of the tribe of Zebulun.(BK) 17 Then the tabernacle was taken down, and the Gershonites and Merarites, who carried it, set out.(BL)

18 The divisions of the camp of Reuben(BM) went next, under their standard.(BN) Elizur son of Shedeur(BO) was in command. 19 Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai was over the division of the tribe of Simeon,(BP) 20 and Eliasaph son of Deuel was over the division of the tribe of Gad.(BQ) 21 Then the Kohathites(BR) set out, carrying the holy things.(BS) The tabernacle was to be set up before they arrived.(BT)

22 The divisions of the camp of Ephraim(BU) went next, under their standard. Elishama son of Ammihud(BV) was in command. 23 Gamaliel son of Pedahzur was over the division of the tribe of Manasseh,(BW) 24 and Abidan son of Gideoni was over the division of the tribe of Benjamin.(BX)

25 Finally, as the rear guard(BY) for all the units, the divisions of the camp of Dan set out under their standard. Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai(BZ) was in command. 26 Pagiel son of Okran was over the division of the tribe of Asher,(CA) 27 and Ahira son of Enan was over the division of the tribe of Naphtali.(CB) 28 This was the order of march for the Israelite divisions as they set out.

29 Now Moses said to Hobab(CC) son of Reuel(CD) the Midianite, Moses’ father-in-law,(CE) “We are setting out for the place about which the Lord said, ‘I will give it to you.’(CF) Come with us and we will treat you well, for the Lord has promised good things to Israel.”

30 He answered, “No, I will not go;(CG) I am going back to my own land and my own people.(CH)

31 But Moses said, “Please do not leave us. You know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you can be our eyes.(CI) 32 If you come with us, we will share with you(CJ) whatever good things the Lord gives us.(CK)

33 So they set out(CL) from the mountain of the Lord and traveled for three days. The ark of the covenant of the Lord(CM) went before them during those three days to find them a place to rest.(CN) 34 The cloud of the Lord was over them by day when they set out from the camp.(CO)

35 Whenever the ark set out, Moses said,

“Rise up,(CP) Lord!
    May your enemies be scattered;(CQ)
may your foes flee before you.(CR)(CS)

36 Whenever it came to rest, he said,

“Return,(CT) Lord,
to the countless thousands of Israel.(CU)

Fire From the Lord

11 Now the people complained(CV) about their hardships in the hearing of the Lord,(CW) and when he heard them his anger was aroused.(CX) Then fire from the Lord burned among them(CY) and consumed(CZ) some of the outskirts of the camp. When the people cried out to Moses, he prayed(DA) to the Lord(DB) and the fire died down. So that place was called Taberah,[a](DC) because fire from the Lord had burned among them.(DD)

Quail From the Lord

The rabble with them began to crave other food,(DE) and again the Israelites started wailing(DF) and said, “If only we had meat to eat! We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost—also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic.(DG) But now we have lost our appetite; we never see anything but this manna!(DH)

The manna was like coriander seed(DI) and looked like resin.(DJ) The people went around gathering it,(DK) and then ground it in a hand mill or crushed it in a mortar. They cooked it in a pot or made it into loaves. And it tasted like something made with olive oil. When the dew(DL) settled on the camp at night, the manna also came down.

10 Moses heard the people of every family wailing(DM) at the entrance to their tents. The Lord became exceedingly angry, and Moses was troubled. 11 He asked the Lord, “Why have you brought this trouble(DN) on your servant? What have I done to displease you that you put the burden of all these people on me?(DO) 12 Did I conceive all these people? Did I give them birth? Why do you tell me to carry them in my arms, as a nurse carries an infant,(DP) to the land you promised on oath(DQ) to their ancestors?(DR) 13 Where can I get meat for all these people?(DS) They keep wailing to me, ‘Give us meat to eat!’ 14 I cannot carry all these people by myself; the burden is too heavy for me.(DT) 15 If this is how you are going to treat me, please go ahead and kill me(DU)—if I have found favor in your eyes—and do not let me face my own ruin.”

16 The Lord said to Moses: “Bring me seventy of Israel’s elders(DV) who are known to you as leaders and officials among the people.(DW) Have them come to the tent of meeting,(DX) that they may stand there with you. 17 I will come down and speak with you(DY) there, and I will take some of the power of the Spirit that is on you and put it on them.(DZ) They will share the burden of the people with you so that you will not have to carry it alone.(EA)

18 “Tell the people: ‘Consecrate yourselves(EB) in preparation for tomorrow, when you will eat meat. The Lord heard you when you wailed,(EC) “If only we had meat to eat! We were better off in Egypt!”(ED) Now the Lord will give you meat,(EE) and you will eat it. 19 You will not eat it for just one day, or two days, or five, ten or twenty days, 20 but for a whole month—until it comes out of your nostrils and you loathe it(EF)—because you have rejected the Lord,(EG) who is among you, and have wailed before him, saying, “Why did we ever leave Egypt?”’”(EH)

21 But Moses said, “Here I am among six hundred thousand men(EI) on foot, and you say, ‘I will give them meat to eat for a whole month!’ 22 Would they have enough if flocks and herds were slaughtered for them? Would they have enough if all the fish in the sea were caught for them?”(EJ)

23 The Lord answered Moses, “Is the Lord’s arm too short?(EK) Now you will see whether or not what I say will come true for you.(EL)

24 So Moses went out and told the people what the Lord had said. He brought together seventy of their elders and had them stand around the tent. 25 Then the Lord came down in the cloud(EM) and spoke with him,(EN) and he took some of the power of the Spirit(EO) that was on him and put it on the seventy elders.(EP) When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied(EQ)—but did not do so again.

26 However, two men, whose names were Eldad and Medad, had remained in the camp. They were listed among the elders, but did not go out to the tent. Yet the Spirit also rested on them,(ER) and they prophesied in the camp. 27 A young man ran and told Moses, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.”

28 Joshua son of Nun,(ES) who had been Moses’ aide(ET) since youth, spoke up and said, “Moses, my lord, stop them!”(EU)

29 But Moses replied, “Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all the Lord’s people were prophets(EV) and that the Lord would put his Spirit(EW) on them!”(EX) 30 Then Moses and the elders of Israel returned to the camp.

31 Now a wind went out from the Lord and drove quail(EY) in from the sea. It scattered them up to two cubits[b] deep all around the camp, as far as a day’s walk in any direction. 32 All that day and night and all the next day the people went out and gathered quail. No one gathered less than ten homers.[c] Then they spread them out all around the camp. 33 But while the meat was still between their teeth(EZ) and before it could be consumed, the anger(FA) of the Lord burned against the people, and he struck them with a severe plague.(FB) 34 Therefore the place was named Kibroth Hattaavah,[d](FC) because there they buried the people who had craved other food.

35 From Kibroth Hattaavah the people traveled to Hazeroth(FD) and stayed there.
