10 Frères, le vœu de mon cœur et ma prière à Dieu pour eux, c’est qu’ils soient sauvés. 2 Je leur rends le témoignage qu’ils ont du zèle pour Dieu, mais sans intelligence: 3 ne connaissant pas la justice de Dieu, et cherchant à établir leur propre justice, ils ne se sont pas soumis à la justice de Dieu; 4 car Christ est la fin de la loi pour la justification de tous ceux qui croient.
5 En effet, Moïse définit ainsi la justice qui vient de la loi: L’homme qui mettra ces choses en pratique vivra par elles[a]. 6 Mais voici comment parle la justice qui vient de la foi: Ne dis pas en ton cœur: Qui montera au ciel? C’est en faire descendre Christ; 7 ou: Qui descendra dans l’abîme? C’est faire remonter Christ d’entre les morts. 8 Que dit-elle donc? La parole est près de toi, dans ta bouche et dans ton cœur. Or, c’est la parole de la foi, que nous prêchons.[b] 9 Si tu confesses de ta bouche le Seigneur Jésus, et si tu crois dans ton cœur que Dieu l’a ressuscité des morts, tu seras sauvé. 10 Car c’est en croyant du cœur qu’on parvient à la justice, et c’est en confessant de la bouche qu’on parvient au salut, selon ce que dit l’Ecriture:
11 Quiconque croit en lui ne sera point confus[c].
12 Il n’y a aucune différence, en effet, entre le Juif et le Grec, puisqu’ils ont tous un même Seigneur, qui est riche pour tous ceux qui l’invoquent. 13 Car quiconque invoquera le nom du Seigneur sera sauvé[d].
14 Comment donc invoqueront-ils celui en qui ils n’ont pas cru? Et comment croiront-ils en celui dont ils n’ont pas entendu parler? Et comment en entendront-ils parler, s’il n’y a personne qui prêche? 15 Et comment y aura-t-il des prédicateurs, s’ils ne sont pas envoyés? selon qu’il est écrit:
Qu’ils sont beaux
Les pieds de ceux qui annoncent la paix,
De ceux qui annoncent de bonnes nouvelles[e]!
16 Mais tous n’ont pas obéi à la bonne nouvelle. Aussi Esaïe dit-il:
Seigneur,
Qui a cru à notre prédication[f]?
17 Ainsi la foi vient de ce qu’on entend, et ce qu’on entend vient de la parole de Christ. 18 Mais je dis: N’ont-ils pas entendu? Au contraire!
Leur voix est allée par toute la terre,
Et leurs paroles jusqu’aux extrémités du monde[g].
19 Mais je dis: Israël ne l’a-t-il pas su? Moïse le premier dit: J’exciterai votre jalousie par ce qui n’est point une nation, je provoquerai votre colère par une nation sans intelligence[h]. 20 Et Esaïe pousse la hardiesse jusqu’à dire:
J’ai été trouvé par ceux qui ne me cherchaient pas,
Je me suis manifesté à ceux qui ne me demandaient pas.
21 Mais au sujet d’Israël, il dit:
J’ai tendu mes mains tout le jour vers un peuple rebelle
Et contredisant[i].

Người Do-thái Cần Tin Nhận Sự Công Chính Bởi Ðức Tin
10 Thưa anh chị em, sự ao ước trong lòng tôi và điều tôi cầu xin Ðức Chúa Trời cho dân I-sơ-ra-ên[a] là họ được cứu. 2 Tôi có thể làm chứng rằng họ rất nhiệt thành đối với Ðức Chúa Trời, nhưng lòng nhiệt thành ấy không đặt nền tảng trên tri thức. 3 Vì không biết cách Ðức Chúa Trời làm cho người ta được xưng công chính và muốn cậy sức riêng mình để đạt đến sự công chính, họ đã không chịu phục dưới cách làm cho được xưng công chính của Ðức Chúa Trời. 4 Vì Ðấng Christ chính là cứu cánh của Luật Pháp, để ai tin Ngài sẽ được xưng công chính.
Ơn Cứu Rỗi Cho Mọi Người
5 Môi-se viết về sự công chính đến bởi Luật Pháp rằng,
“Hễ ai làm theo những điều ấy sẽ được sống.”
6 Nhưng về sự công chính đến bởi đức tin, ông nói,
“Ngươi đừng tự nhủ trong lòng rằng, ‘Ai sẽ lên trời?’”
(Ngụ ý: để đem Ðấng Christ xuống), 7 hoặc
‘Ai sẽ xuống vực thẳm?’
(Ngụ ý: để đem Ðấng Christ từ cõi chết lên). 8 Nhưng điều ấy nói gì?
“Lời[b] ở gần ngươi, trong miệng ngươi, và trong lòng ngươi.”
(Ðó là lời đức tin chúng tôi rao giảng). 9 Vì nếu miệng bạn xưng nhận Ðức Chúa Jesus là Chúa, và lòng bạn tin rằng Ðức Chúa Trời đã làm cho Ngài sống lại từ cõi chết, bạn sẽ được cứu. 10 Vì ai tin trong lòng sẽ được xưng công chính, và ai xưng nhận bằng môi miệng sẽ được cứu, 11 vì Kinh Thánh dạy,
“Ai tin Ngài sẽ không bị hổ thẹn.”
12 Thế thì không có sự phân biệt giữa người Do-thái và người Hy-lạp, vì họ có cùng một Chúa; Ngài là Chúa chung của mọi người, và Ngài ban phước dồi dào cho những ai kêu cầu Ngài, 13 vì
“Ai kêu cầu danh Chúa sẽ được cứu.”
14 Nhưng làm sao họ có thể kêu cầu Ðấng họ chưa tin? Làm sao họ có thể tin Ðấng họ chưa nghe? Làm sao họ có thể nghe nếu không ai rao giảng? 15 Làm sao họ có thể rao giảng nếu họ không được sai đi? Như có chép rằng,
“Bàn chân của những người rao truyền Tin Mừng đẹp biết bao!”
16 Nhưng không phải mọi người sẽ vâng theo Tin Mừng, vì Ê-sai nói,
“Lạy Chúa, ai tin những gì chúng con rao báo?”
17 Như vậy đức tin đến bởi những gì người ta nghe, và những gì người ta cần nghe là lời[c] của Ðấng Christ[d] được rao giảng.
18 Nhưng tôi xin hỏi, họ đã được nghe chưa?
Họ đã được nghe rồi, vì
“Âm thanh chúng đã lan truyền khắp đất,
Và lời chúng đã vang đến cùng tận địa cầu.”
19 Nhưng tôi xin hỏi thêm, có phải người I-sơ-ra-ên không hiểu chăng?
Trước hết xin nghe Môi-se kể lại,[e]
“Ta sẽ làm cho các ngươi ganh tị với một dân không đáng gọi là một dân;
Bởi một dân khờ khạo, Ta sẽ làm cho các ngươi tức giận.”
20 Ê-sai đã rất bạo dạn thuật lại,[f]
“Những kẻ chẳng tìm kiếm Ta đã tìm được Ta;
Ta đã tỏ Ta ra cho những kẻ chẳng cầu hỏi Ta.”
21 Nhưng đối với dân I-sơ-ra-ên, Ngài phán,
“Suốt ngày Ta dang hai tay ra hướng về một dân không vâng lời và chống nghịch.”

10 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.
2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.
3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
5 For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.
6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)
7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)
8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.
19 But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.
20 But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.
21 But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.

10 Brothers and sisters, my heart’s desire(A) and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. 2 For I can testify about them that they are zealous(B) for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. 3 Since they did not know the righteousness of God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness.(C) 4 Christ is the culmination of the law(D) so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.(E)
5 Moses writes this about the righteousness that is by the law: “The person who does these things will live by them.”[a](F) 6 But the righteousness that is by faith(G) says: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’”[b](H) (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 “or ‘Who will descend into the deep?’”[c](I) (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).(J) 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,”[d](K) that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: 9 If you declare(L) with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,”(M) and believe(N) in your heart that God raised him from the dead,(O) you will be saved.(P) 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11 As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”[e](Q) 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile(R)—the same Lord is Lord of all(S) and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord(T) will be saved.”[f](U)
14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15 And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”[g](V)
16 But not all the Israelites accepted the good news.(W) For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our message?”[h](X) 17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message,(Y) and the message is heard through the word about Christ.(Z) 18 But I ask: Did they not hear? Of course they did:
19 Again I ask: Did Israel not understand? First, Moses says,
“I will make you envious(AB) by those who are not a nation;
I will make you angry by a nation that has no understanding.”[j](AC)
20 And Isaiah boldly says,
“I was found by those who did not seek me;
I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me.”[k](AD)
21 But concerning Israel he says,
