¹⁶ For this reason the promise depends on faith, in order that it may rest on grace, so that it may be guaranteed to all his descendants, not only to the adherents of the law but also to those who share the faith of Abraham (who is the father of all of us,^(A)

²⁴ they are now justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,^{(A) 25} whom God put forward as a sacrifice of atonement^[a] by his blood, effective through faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over the sins previously committed;^{(B) 26} it was to demonstrate at the present time his own righteousness, so that he is righteous and he justifies the one who has the faith of Jesus.^[b]

⁸ For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God—

²² But the scripture has imprisoned all things under the power of sin, so that what was promised through the faith of Jesus Christ^[a] might be given to those who believe.^(A)

⁸ This means that it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as descendants.

⁷ so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.^(A)

¹⁰ Therefore, brothers and sisters, be all the more eager to confirm your call and election, for if you do this, you will never stumble.

⁵ even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ^[a]—by grace you have been saved—

⁸ For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the circumcised on behalf of the truth of God in order that he might confirm the promises given to the ancestors^(A)

Results of Justification

5 Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we^[a] have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,^(A)
