²³ since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God;^(A)

²⁰ Surely there is no one on earth so righteous as to do good without ever sinning.^(A)

⁸ If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. ⁹ If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.^{(A) 10} If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.^(B)

None Is Righteous

⁹ What then? Are we any better off?^[a] No, not at all, for we have already charged that all, both Jews and Greeks, are under the power of sin,^(A)

²² But the scripture has imprisoned all things under the power of sin, so that what was promised through the faith of Jesus Christ^[a] might be given to those who believe.^(A)

³² For God has imprisoned all in disobedience so that he may be merciful to all.^(A)

¹⁹ Now we know that, whatever the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world may be held accountable to God.^(A)

¹² urging and encouraging you and pleading that you lead a life worthy of God, who calls you into his own kingdom and glory.^(A)

¹⁴ For this purpose he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.^(A)

¹⁰ And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ,^[a] will himself restore, support, strengthen, and establish you.^(A)
