⁴ For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us,^(A) so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.

¹¹ These things happened to them as examples^(A) and were written down as warnings for us,^(B) on whom the culmination of the ages has come.^(C)

¹⁶ All Scripture is God-breathed^(A) and is useful for teaching,^(B) rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,^{(C) 17} so that the servant of God^[a](D) may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.^(E)

²³ The words “it was credited to him” were written not for him alone, ²⁴ but also for us,^(A) to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him^(B) who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.^(C)

²⁰ Above all, you must understand^(A) that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. ²¹ For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God^(B) as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.^(C)

³⁵ So do not throw away your confidence;^(A) it will be richly rewarded.

³⁶ You need to persevere^(B) so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.^(C)

⁹ For it is written in the Law of Moses: “Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain.”^[a](A) Is it about oxen that God is concerned?^{(B) 10} Surely he says this for us, doesn’t he? Yes, this was written for us,^(C) because whoever plows and threshes should be able to do so in the hope of sharing in the harvest.^(D)

¹² Be joyful in hope,^(A) patient in affliction,^(B) faithful in prayer.^(C)

²⁴ For in this hope we were saved.^(A) But hope that is seen is no hope at all.^(B) Who hopes for what they already have? ²⁵ But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.^(C)
