12 remember that you were at that time without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.(A) 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.(B) 14 For he is our peace; in his flesh he has made both into one and has broken down the dividing wall, that is, the hostility between us,(C) 15 abolishing the law with its commandments and ordinances, that he might create in himself one new humanity in place of the two, thus making peace,(D) 16 and might reconcile both to God in one body[a] through the cross, thus putting to death that hostility through it.[b](E) 17 So he came and proclaimed peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near, 18 for through him both of us have access in one Spirit to the Father.(F) 19 So then, you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God,(G) 20 built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone;[c](H) 21 in him the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord,(I) 22 in whom you also are built together spiritually[d] into a dwelling place for God.

Paul’s Ministry to the Gentiles

This is the reason that I, Paul, am a prisoner for[e] Christ Jesus[f] for the sake of you gentiles, for surely[g] you have already heard of the commission of God’s grace that was given me for you and how the mystery was made known to me by revelation, as I wrote above in a few words,[h](J) a reading of which will enable you to perceive my understanding of the mystery of Christ.(K) In former generations this mystery[i] was not made known to humankind, as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit:(L) that is, the gentiles have become fellow heirs, members of the same body, and sharers in the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.(M)

Of this gospel I have become a servant according to the gift of God’s grace that was given me by the working of his power. Although I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given to me to bring to the gentiles the news of the boundless riches of Christ(N)

12 remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners(A) to the covenants of the promise,(B) without hope(C) and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once(D) were far away have been brought near(E) by the blood of Christ.(F)

14 For he himself is our peace,(G) who has made the two groups one(H) and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, 15 by setting aside in his flesh(I) the law with its commands and regulations.(J) His purpose was to create in himself one(K) new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, 16 and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross,(L) by which he put to death their hostility. 17 He came and preached peace(M) to you who were far away and peace to those who were near.(N) 18 For through him we both have access(O) to the Father(P) by one Spirit.(Q)

19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers,(R) but fellow citizens(S) with God’s people and also members of his household,(T) 20 built(U) on the foundation(V) of the apostles and prophets,(W) with Christ Jesus himself(X) as the chief cornerstone.(Y) 21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple(Z) in the Lord. 22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.(AA)

God’s Marvelous Plan for the Gentiles

For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner(AB) of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles—

Surely you have heard about the administration of God’s grace that was given to me(AC) for you, that is, the mystery(AD) made known to me by revelation,(AE) as I have already written briefly. In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight(AF) into the mystery of Christ, which was not made known to people in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God’s holy apostles and prophets.(AG) This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs(AH) together with Israel, members together of one body,(AI) and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.(AJ)

I became a servant of this gospel(AK) by the gift of God’s grace given me(AL) through the working of his power.(AM) Although I am less than the least of all the Lord’s people,(AN) this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles(AO) the boundless riches of Christ,(AP)
