⁹ When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under ^(A)the altar ^(B)the souls of those who had been slain ^(C)for the word of God and for ^(D)the witness they had borne.

⁴ Then I saw ^(A)thrones, and ^(B)seated on them were those to whom the authority to judge was committed. Also I saw ^(C)the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and those ^(D)who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. ^(E)They came to life and ^(F)reigned with Christ for a thousand years.

^2 (A)They will put you out of the synagogues. Indeed, ^(B)the hour is coming when ^(C)whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God.

Vision of the Son of Man

⁹ I, John, your brother and ^(A)partner in ^(B)the tribulation and ^(C)the kingdom and ^(D)the patient endurance that are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos ^(E)on account of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.

¹¹ And ^(A)they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for ^(B)they loved not their lives ^(C)even unto death. ¹² Therefore, ^(D)rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them! But ^(E)woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because ^(F)he knows that his time is short!”

¹³ And when the dragon saw that he had been thrown down to the earth, he pursued ^(G)the woman who had given birth to the male child. ¹⁴ But the woman was given the two ^(H)wings of the great eagle so that she might fly from the serpent ^(I)into the wilderness, to the place where she is to be nourished ^(J)for a time, and times, and half a time. ¹⁵ The serpent poured water ^(K)like a river out of his mouth after the woman, to sweep her away with a flood. ¹⁶ But the earth came to the help of the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed the river that the dragon had poured from his mouth. ¹⁷ Then the dragon became furious with the woman and went off ^(L)to make war on the rest of ^(M)her offspring, ^(N)on those who keep the commandments of God and hold to ^(O)the testimony of Jesus. And he stood^[a] on the sand of the sea.

³ And I will grant authority to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for ^(A)1,260 days, ^(B)clothed in sackcloth.”

⁴ These are ^(C)the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth. ⁵ And if anyone would harm them, ^(D)fire pours from their mouth and consumes their foes. If anyone would harm them, ^(E)this is how he is doomed to be killed. ⁶ They have the power ^(F)to shut the sky, that no rain may fall during the days of their prophesying, and they have power over the waters to turn them into blood and ^(G)to strike the earth with every kind of plague, as often as they desire. ⁷ And when they have finished their testimony, ^(H)the beast that rises from ^(I)the bottomless pit^{[a] (J)}will make war on them and conquer them and kill them,

¹³ “‘I know where you dwell, ^(A)where Satan's throne is. Yet you hold fast my name, and you did not ^(B)deny my faith^[a] even in the days of Antipas ^(C)my faithful witness, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells.

⁸ Therefore ^(A)do not be ashamed of ^(B)the testimony about our Lord, nor of ^(C)me his prisoner, but ^(D)share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God,

⁷ And I heard ^(A)the altar saying,
