⁸ And I looked, and behold, ^(A)a pale horse! And its rider's name was Death, and Hades followed him. And they were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill ^(B)with sword and with famine and with pestilence and ^(C)by wild beasts of the earth.

² And when they ask you, ‘Where shall we go?’ you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord:

^3 (B)I will appoint over them four kinds of destroyers, declares the Lord: the sword to kill, the dogs to tear, and ^(C)the birds of the air ^(D)and the beasts of the earth to devour and destroy.

³ the third ^(A)white horses, and the fourth chariot dappled horses—all of them strong.^[a]

^4 (A)They shall die of deadly diseases. ^(B)They shall not be lamented, nor shall they be buried. ^(C)They shall be as dung on the surface of the ground. ^(D)They shall perish by the sword and by famine, ^(E)and their dead bodies shall be food for the birds of the air and for the beasts of the earth.

¹⁸ By these three plagues a third of mankind was killed, by the fire and smoke and sulfur coming out of their mouths.

¹⁸ and the living one. ^(A)I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and ^(B)I have the keys of Death and Hades.

¹³ And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, ^(A)Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, ^(B)according to what they had done. ¹⁴ Then ^(C)Death and Hades ^(D)were thrown into the lake of fire. This is ^(E)the second death, the lake of fire.

¹⁵ So the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour, the day, the month, and the year, were released ^(A)to kill a third of mankind.
