12 And to the angel of the church of Pergamos write thou, These things saith he, that hath the sword sharp on either side [that hath the sword sharp on each side].
13 I know where thou dwellest, where the seat of Satan is; and thou holdest my name, and deniedest not my faith. And in those days was Antipas, my faithful witness, that was slain at you, where Satan dwelleth.
14 But I have against thee a few things; for thou hast there men holding the teaching of Balaam, which taught Balac to send cause of stumbling [to send offence] before the sons of Israel, to eat of sacrifices of idols, and to do fornication;
15 so also thou hast men holding the teaching of Nicolaitanes.
16 Also do thou penance; if any thing less [if not], I shall come soon to thee, and I shall fight with them with the sword of my mouth.
17 He that hath ears, hear he, what the Spirit saith to the churches. To him that overcometh I shall give angel meat hid [To the overcoming, I shall give manna hid, or angel meat]; and I shall give to him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth, but he that taketh.

12 And to the messenger of the congregation in Pergamos write: This says he who has the sharp sword with two edges: 13 I know your works and where you dwell, even where Satan’s seat is; and you keep my name and have not denied my faith. And in my days Antipas was a faithful witness of mine, who was slain among you, where Satan dwells.
14 But I have a few things against you. You have there those who maintain the doctrine of Balaam, who taught in Balak to put occasions of sin before the children of Israel, that they should eat of meat dedicated to idols, and commit fornication. 15 So also you have those who maintain the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate. 16 Repent and turn therefore, or else I will come to you shortly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth. 17 Let him who has ears hear what the Spirit says to the congregations. To him who overcomes, I will give to eat manna that is hid, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no one knows save the one that receives it.

- Revelation 2:12 The third place is unto the Pastors of Pergamos. The Exordium is taken out of verse 16 of the first Chapter.
- Revelation 2:12 Pergamos was the name of a famous city in old time in Asia, where the Kings of the Attalians were always resident.
- Revelation 2:13 The proposition of praise is in this verse, of reprehension in the two following, and of exhortation joined with a conditional threat, verse 16. Now this Antipas was the Angel or minister of the Church of Pergamos, as Aretas writeth.
- Revelation 2:13 The faith of them of Pergamos is so much the more highly commended because they remained constant even in the very heat of persecution.
- Revelation 2:14 That which is here spoken of things offered to idols, is meant of the same kind which Paul speaketh of, 1 Cor. 10:13.
