17 One of the seven angels who had carried the seven bowls came and talked to me. He said, `Come, and I will show you the woman who has given herself over to wrong ways of using sex. She is sitting over many waters. I will show you how she will be punished.
2 The kings on earth have been with her and copied her. And the people on earth gladly copy her wrong ways.'
3 Then the angel took me away in the Spirit to a wilderness. There I saw a woman sitting on a red beast that had names against God written all over it. It had seven heads and ten horns.
4 The woman was wearing blue and red clothes. She was shining with gold, fine stones, and pearls. In her hand she held a gold cup. It was full of the wrong things she did and of her dirty ways of using sex.
5 A name was written on her forehead. It has a secret meaning. The name is Great Babylon, the mother of all people who give their bodies for wrong ways of using sex. The mother of all things done on earth too bad to talk about.
6 And I saw the woman was drunk because of the blood she drank. It was the blood of God's people, and the blood of people who had been killed because they belonged to Jesus. When I saw her, I was very much surprised.
7 The angel asked me, `Why are you surprised? I will tell you the secret meaning of the woman and the beast with seven heads and horns that carries her.
8 `The beast that you saw was alive at one time, then it was dead. It will come up from the big hole that has no bottom and it will be killed. The people on earth will be surprised when they see the beast, because it was alive and then it was dead, and it comes alive again. These are the people who do not have their names written in the book of life from the time the world was made.
9 `To understand this, one must be wise. The seven heads are the seven hills on which the woman is sitting.
10 They are also seven kings. Five have already lost their power. One is ruling now, and the other one has not yet come. When he comes he will rule for a short time.
11 The beast that was alive at the one time, and then was dead, is the eighth king. He is really one of the seven. He will be killed.
12 The ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have not yet ruled. They will have power for one hour to rule with the animal.
13 These ten all think the same way, and they give to the beast their power and right to rule.
14 They will fight against the Lamb, but the Lamb will win the fight against them. He will win because he is Lord of lords and King of kings. `Those who are with the Lamb will also win. God has called them and chosen them, and they believe in him.'
15 And the angel said to me, `You saw the water on which the bad woman is sitting. The water is the many nations, many people, many countries, and many languages.
16 You saw the ten horns and the animal. They will hate the bad woman. They will take away everything she has and her fine clothes. They will eat her body and burn her up in a fire.
17 God has put it into their hearts to do what he wants done to her. They will all agree. They will give to the beast their power to rule until what God has said comes true.
18 `The woman whom you saw is the big city that rules over the kings on earth.'

2 Wa latè yo lage kò yo nan dezòd avè l': Tout moun ki rete sou latè te sou ak diven movèz vi li a.
3 Nan vizyon an, mwen wè zanj lan pote m' ale nan yon dezè. La, mwen wè yon fanm ki te chita sou yon bèt tou wouj. Bèt la te gen sèt tèt ak dis kòn. Tout kò l' te kouvri ak mo ki te jouman pou Bondye.
4 Fanm lan te gen yon rad swa mòv ak wouj san sou li. Li te chaje ak bijou fèt an lò, ak piè tout koulè ansanm ak bèl grenn pèl. Li te kenbe nan men l' yon gode fèt an lò ki te plen ak madichon ansanm ak vie bagay sal lavi jennès li a.
5 Te gen yon non ekri sou fwon li ki te gen yon sans kache: Gwo Babilòn, manman jennès yo ansanm ak tout bagay sal k'ap fèt sou latè.
6 Mwen wè fanm lan te sou tèlman li te bwè san moun k'ap sèvi Bondye yo ak san tout moun yo te touye paske yo te pran pozisyon pou Jezi. Lè m' wè l', mwen te sezi anpil.
7 ¶ Men, zanj lan di mwen: Poukisa ou sezi konsa? Mwen pral ba ou yon sekrè, mwen pral fè ou konnen ki sans pou ou bay fanm lan ansanm ak bèt k'ap pòte l' la, bèt ki gen sèt tèt ak dis kòn lan.
8 Bèt ou wè a te vivan yon lè. Koulye a li pa vivan ankò. Li gen pou l' moute soti nan gwo twou san fon an, apre sa pou li al mouri nèt. Moun ki rete sou latè ki pa t' gen non yo ekri depi lè Bondye t'ap kreye tout bagay nan liv ki gen non moun ki gen lavi a, yo pral sezi anpil lè y'a wè bèt la. Paske li te vivan nan tan lontan, koulye a li pa la, men li gen pou l' parèt ankò.
9 Se koulye a pou moun fè wè yo gen lespri ak bon konprann. Sèt tèt yo, se sèt ti mòn kote fanm lan chita a. Se sèt wa tou yo ye.
10 Senk ladan yo gen tan tonbe, yonn ap gouvènen koulye a, dènye a poko vini. Lè la vini, li p'ap la pou lontan.
11 Bèt la menm ki te vivan nan tan lontan men ki pa la koulye a, se yon witièm wa. Li fè yonn ak sèt premie yo, li pral fin pèdi tèt li nèt.
12 Dis kòn ou wè yo, se dis lòt wa ki poko konmanse gouvènen. Men, y'ap resevwa pouvwa pou yo gouvènen tankou wa pandan yon ti tan ansanm ak bèt la.
13 Yo toulèdis gen menm lide nan tèt yo, y'ap renmèt pouvwa yo ak otorite yo bay bèt la.
14 ¶ Y'a goumen kont ti Mouton an. Men, ti Mouton an va kraze yo, paske li Chèf tout chèf, li Wa tout wa. Li va kraze yo avèk moun pa l' yo, moun Bondye te rele, moun li te chwazi, moun ki kenbe fèm ak li.
15 Zanj lan di m' ankò: Ou te wè jennès la chita nan mitan anpil gwo dlo. Dlo sa yo se pèp, se foul moun, yon bann nasyon ki pale tout lang.
16 Dis kòn ou te wè ansanm ak bèt la, yo pral rayi fanm movèz vi a: y'a pran tou sa l' genyen, y'a kite l' toutouni, y'a manje viann li, y'a boule l' nan dife.
17 Bondye mete nan kè yo lide pou yo fè sa li menm li vle, pou yo tout tonbe dakò fè menm bagay, pou yo renmèt pouvwa yo kòm wa nan men bèt la, jouk tan pawòl Bondye yo va rive vre.

Babylon, the Prostitute on the Beast
17 One of the seven angels(A) who had the seven bowls(B) came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the punishment(C) of the great prostitute,(D) who sits by many waters.(E) 2 With her the kings of the earth committed adultery, and the inhabitants of the earth were intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries.”(F)
3 Then the angel carried me away in the Spirit(G) into a wilderness.(H) There I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet(I) beast that was covered with blasphemous names(J) and had seven heads and ten horns.(K) 4 The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls.(L) She held a golden cup(M) in her hand, filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries.(N) 5 The name written on her forehead was a mystery:(O)
6 I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of God’s holy people,(R) the blood of those who bore testimony to Jesus.
When I saw her, I was greatly astonished. 7 Then the angel said to me: “Why are you astonished? I will explain to you the mystery(S) of the woman and of the beast she rides, which has the seven heads and ten horns.(T) 8 The beast, which you saw, once was, now is not, and yet will come up out of the Abyss(U) and go to its destruction.(V) The inhabitants of the earth(W) whose names have not been written in the book of life(X) from the creation of the world will be astonished(Y) when they see the beast, because it once was, now is not, and yet will come.
9 “This calls for a mind with wisdom.(Z) The seven heads(AA) are seven hills on which the woman sits. 10 They are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; but when he does come, he must remain for only a little while. 11 The beast who once was, and now is not,(AB) is an eighth king. He belongs to the seven and is going to his destruction.
12 “The ten horns(AC) you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but who for one hour(AD) will receive authority as kings along with the beast. 13 They have one purpose and will give their power and authority to the beast.(AE) 14 They will wage war(AF) against the Lamb, but the Lamb will triumph over(AG) them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings(AH)—and with him will be his called, chosen(AI) and faithful followers.”
15 Then the angel said to me, “The waters(AJ) you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations and languages.(AK) 16 The beast and the ten horns(AL) you saw will hate the prostitute.(AM) They will bring her to ruin(AN) and leave her naked;(AO) they will eat her flesh(AP) and burn her with fire.(AQ) 17 For God has put it into their hearts(AR) to accomplish his purpose by agreeing to hand over to the beast their royal authority,(AS) until God’s words are fulfilled.(AT) 18 The woman you saw is the great city(AU) that rules over the kings of the earth.”
