17 In one hour(A) such great wealth has been brought to ruin!’(B)

“Every sea captain, and all who travel by ship, the sailors, and all who earn their living from the sea,(C) will stand far off.(D) 18 When they see the smoke of her burning,(E) they will exclaim, ‘Was there ever a city like this great city(F)?’(G) 19 They will throw dust on their heads,(H) and with weeping and mourning(I) cry out:

“‘Woe! Woe to you, great city,(J)
where all who had ships on the sea
    became rich through her wealth!
In one hour she has been brought to ruin!’(K)

20 “Rejoice over her, you heavens!(L)
    Rejoice, you people of God!
    Rejoice, apostles and prophets!
For God has judged her
with the judgment she imposed on you.”(M)

The Finality of Babylon’s Doom

21 Then a mighty angel(N) picked up a boulder the size of a large millstone and threw it into the sea,(O) and said:

“With such violence
the great city(P) of Babylon will be thrown down,
    never to be found again.
22 The music of harpists and musicians, pipers and trumpeters,
will never be heard in you again.(Q)
No worker of any trade
will ever be found in you again.
The sound of a millstone
will never be heard in you again.(R)
23 The light of a lamp
will never shine in you again.
The voice of bridegroom and bride
will never be heard in you again.(S)
Your merchants were the world’s important people.(T)
By your magic spell(U) all the nations were led astray.
24 In her was found the blood of prophets and of God’s holy people,(V)
of all who have been slaughtered on the earth.”(W)

Threefold Hallelujah Over Babylon’s Fall

19 After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude(X) in heaven shouting:

“Hallelujah!(Y)
Salvation(Z) and glory and power(AA) belong to our God,
for true and just are his judgments.(AB)
He has condemned the great prostitute(AC)
who corrupted the earth by her adulteries.
He has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”(AD)

And again they shouted:

“Hallelujah!(AE)
The smoke from her goes up for ever and ever.”(AF)

The twenty-four elders(AG) and the four living creatures(AH) fell down(AI) and worshiped God, who was seated on the throne. And they cried:

“Amen, Hallelujah!”(AJ)

Then a voice came from the throne, saying:

“Praise our God,
    all you his servants,(AK)
you who fear him,
    both great and small!”(AL)

Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude,(AM) like the roar of rushing waters(AN) and like loud peals of thunder, shouting:

“Hallelujah!(AO)
For our Lord God Almighty(AP) reigns.(AQ)
Let us rejoice and be glad
    and give him glory!(AR)
For the wedding of the Lamb(AS) has come,
and his bride(AT) has made herself ready.
Fine linen,(AU) bright and clean,
    was given her to wear.”

(Fine linen stands for the righteous acts(AV) of God’s holy people.)

Then the angel said to me,(AW) “Write this:(AX) Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!”(AY) And he added, “These are the true words of God.”(AZ)

10 At this I fell at his feet to worship him.(BA) But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers and sisters who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God!(BB) For it is the Spirit of prophecy who bears testimony to Jesus.”(BC)

17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,

18 And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!

19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.

20 Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.

21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.

22 And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee;

23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.

24 And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.

19 And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God:

For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.

And again they said, Alleluia And her smoke rose up for ever and ever.

And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia.

And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great.

And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.

Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.

And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.

10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
