17 For (A)in a single hour all this wealth (B)has been laid waste.”

And (C)all shipmasters and seafaring men, sailors and all whose trade is on the sea, stood far off 18 and (D)cried out (E)as they saw the smoke of her burning,

(F)“What city was like the great city?”

19 And they threw (G)dust on their heads as they wept and mourned, crying out,

“Alas, alas, for the great city
(H)where all who had ships at sea
    grew rich by her wealth!
For (I)in a single hour she has been laid waste.
20 (J)Rejoice over her, O heaven,
and you saints and (K)apostles and prophets,
for (L)God has given judgment for you against her!”

21 Then (M)a mighty angel (N)took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying,

“So will Babylon (O)the great city be thrown down with violence,
    and will be found no more;
22 and (P)the sound of harpists and musicians, of flute players and trumpeters,
will be heard in you no more,
and a craftsman of any craft
will be found in you no more,
and (Q)the sound of the mill
will be heard in you no more,
23 and the light of a lamp
will shine in you no more,
and (R)the voice of bridegroom and bride
will be heard in you no more,
for (S)your merchants were the great ones of the earth,
and all nations were deceived (T)by your sorcery.
24 And (U)in her was found the blood of prophets and of saints,
and of (V)all who have been slain on earth.”

Rejoicing in Heaven

19 After this I heard (W)what seemed to be the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, crying out,

“Hallelujah!
(X)Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,
    for (Y)his judgments are true and just;
for he has judged (Z)the great prostitute
who corrupted the earth with her immorality,
and (AA)has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”

Once more they cried out,

“Hallelujah!
(AB)The smoke from her goes up forever and ever.”

And (AC)the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who was seated on the throne, saying, “Amen. Hallelujah!” And from the throne came a voice saying,

(AD)“Praise our God,
    all you his servants,
(AE)you who fear him,
    small and great.”

The Marriage Supper of the Lamb

Then I heard what seemed to be (AF)the voice of a great multitude, like (AG)the roar of many waters and (AH)like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out,

“Hallelujah!
For the Lord our God
    the Almighty (AI)reigns.
Let us rejoice and exult
    and give him the glory,
for (AJ)the marriage of the Lamb has come,
    and (AK)his Bride has made herself ready;
(AL)it was granted her to clothe herself
with fine linen, bright and pure”—

for the fine linen is (AM)the righteous deeds of the saints.

And the angel said[a] to me, “Write this: (AN)Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, (AO)“These are the true words of God.” 10 Then (AP)I fell down at his feet to worship him, (AQ)but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to (AR)the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.” For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

The Rider on a White Horse

11 Then I saw (AS)heaven opened, and behold, (AT)a white horse! The one sitting on it is called (AU)Faithful and True, and (AV)in righteousness he judges and makes war. 12 (AW)His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are (AX)many diadems, and he has (AY)a name written that no one knows but himself. 13 He is clothed in (AZ)a robe dipped in[b] blood, and the name by which he is called is (BA)The Word of God. 14 And the armies of heaven, (BB)arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, (BC)were following him on white horses. 15 (BD)From his mouth comes a sharp sword (BE)with which to strike down the nations, and (BF)he will rule[c] them with a rod of iron. (BG)He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh (BH)he has a name written, (BI)King of kings and Lord of lords.

17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and with a loud voice he called to (BJ)all the birds that fly directly overhead, (BK)“Come, gather for (BL)the great supper of God, 18 (BM)to eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all men, both free and slave,[d] both small and great.” 19 And I saw (BN)the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies (BO)gathered to make war against him who was sitting on the horse and against his army. 20 And the beast was captured, and with it (BP)the false prophet (BQ)who in its presence[e] had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who (BR)worshiped its image. These two were (BS)thrown alive into the lake of (BT)fire that burns with sulfur. 21 And the rest were slain by the sword (BU)that came from the mouth of him who was sitting on the horse, and (BV)all the birds were gorged with their flesh.

The Thousand Years

20 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, (BW)holding in his hand the key to (BX)the bottomless pit[f] and a great chain. And he seized (BY)the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and (BZ)bound him for a thousand years, and threw him into (CA)the pit, and shut it and (CB)sealed it over him, so that (CC)he might not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were ended. After that he must be released for a little while.

Then I saw (CD)thrones, and (CE)seated on them were those to whom the authority to judge was committed. Also I saw (CF)the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and those (CG)who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. (CH)They came to life and (CI)reigned with Christ for a thousand years.

    never to be found again.

Threefold Hallelujah Over Babylon’s Fall

19 After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude(X) in heaven shouting:

“Hallelujah!(Y)
Salvation(Z) and glory and power(AA) belong to our God,
for true and just are his judgments.(AB)
He has condemned the great prostitute(AC)
who corrupted the earth by her adulteries.
He has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”(AD)

And again they shouted:

“Hallelujah!(AE)
The smoke from her goes up for ever and ever.”(AF)

The twenty-four elders(AG) and the four living creatures(AH) fell down(AI) and worshiped God, who was seated on the throne. And they cried:

“Amen, Hallelujah!”(AJ)

Then a voice came from the throne, saying:

“Praise our God,
    all you his servants,(AK)
you who fear him,
    both great and small!”(AL)

Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude,(AM) like the roar of rushing waters(AN) and like loud peals of thunder, shouting:

“Hallelujah!(AO)
For our Lord God Almighty(AP) reigns.(AQ)
Let us rejoice and be glad
    and give him glory!(AR)
For the wedding of the Lamb(AS) has come,
and his bride(AT) has made herself ready.
Fine linen,(AU) bright and clean,
    was given her to wear.”

(Fine linen stands for the righteous acts(AV) of God’s holy people.)

Then the angel said to me,(AW) “Write this:(AX) Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!”(AY) And he added, “These are the true words of God.”(AZ)

10 At this I fell at his feet to worship him.(BA) But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers and sisters who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God!(BB) For it is the Spirit of prophecy who bears testimony to Jesus.”(BC)

The Heavenly Warrior Defeats the Beast

11 I saw heaven standing open(BD) and there before me was a white horse, whose rider(BE) is called Faithful and True.(BF) With justice he judges and wages war.(BG) 12 His eyes are like blazing fire,(BH) and on his head are many crowns.(BI) He has a name written on him(BJ) that no one knows but he himself.(BK) 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood,(BL) and his name is the Word of God.(BM) 14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen,(BN) white(BO) and clean. 15 Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword(BP) with which to strike down(BQ) the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.”[a](BR) He treads the winepress(BS) of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:(BT)

19 Then I saw the beast(CC) and the kings of the earth(CD) and their armies gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse(CE) and his army. 20 But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet(CF) who had performed the signs(CG) on its behalf.(CH) With these signs he had deluded(CI) those who had received the mark of the beast(CJ) and worshiped its image.(CK) The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake(CL) of burning sulfur.(CM) 21 The rest were killed with the sword(CN) coming out of the mouth of the rider on the horse,(CO) and all the birds(CP) gorged themselves on their flesh.

The Thousand Years

20 And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven,(CQ) having the key(CR) to the Abyss(CS) and holding in his hand a great chain.
