² Then I saw another angel coming up from the east, having the seal^(A) of the living God.^(B) He called out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the land and the sea:^(C)

³ “Do not harm^(A) the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads^(B) of the servants of our God.” ⁴ Then I heard the number^(C) of those who were sealed: 144,000^(D) from all the tribes of Israel.

³⁰ And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God,^(A) with whom you were sealed^(B) for the day of redemption.^(C)

¹³ And you also were included in Christ^(A) when you heard the message of truth,^(B) the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal,^(C) the promised Holy Spirit,^(D)

⁴ They were told not to harm^(A) the grass of the earth or any plant or tree,^(B) but only those people who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads.^(C)

¹⁹ Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm,^(A) sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,”^(B) and, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord^(C) must turn away from wickedness.”

²² set his seal^(A) of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.^(B)

⁷ The first angel^(A) sounded his trumpet, and there came hail and fire^(B) mixed with blood, and it was hurled down on the earth. A third^(C) of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up.^(D)

⁸ The second angel sounded his trumpet, and something like a huge mountain,^(E) all ablaze, was thrown into the sea. A third^(F) of the sea turned into blood,^{(G) 9} a third^(H) of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.

¹⁰ The third angel sounded his trumpet, and a great star, blazing like a torch, fell from the sky^(I) on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water^(J)— ¹¹ the name of the star is Wormwood.^[a] A third^(K) of the waters turned bitter, and many people died from the waters that had become bitter.^(L)

¹² The fourth angel sounded his trumpet, and a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third^(M) of them turned dark.^(N) A third of the day was without light, and also a third of the night.^(O)

² And I saw a mighty angel^(A) proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?”
