² down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life,^(A) bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.^(B)

Eden Restored

22 Then the angel showed me the river^(A) of the water of life,^(B) as clear as crystal,^(C) flowing^(D) from the throne of God and of the Lamb

²⁴ “He himself bore our sins”^(A) in his body on the cross,^(B) so that we might die to sins^(C) and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”^(D)

¹⁴ “Blessed are those who wash their robes,^(A) that they may have the right to the tree of life^(B) and may go through the gates^(C) into the city.^(D)

⁸ He said to me, “This water flows toward the eastern region and goes down into the Arabah,^[a](A) where it enters the Dead Sea. When it empties into the sea, the salty water there becomes fresh.^{(B) 9} Swarms of living creatures will live wherever the river flows. There will be large numbers of fish, because this water flows there and makes the salt water fresh; so where the river flows everything will live.^{(C) 10} Fishermen^(D) will stand along the shore; from En Gedi^(E) to En Eglaim there will be places for spreading nets.^(F) The fish will be of many kinds^(G)—like the fish of the Mediterranean Sea.^{(H) 11} But the swamps and marshes will not become fresh; they will be left for salt.^{(I) 12} Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river.^(J) Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit^(K) fail. Every month they will bear fruit, because the water from the sanctuary^(L) flows to them. Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing.^(M)”

⁹ The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees^(A) that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life^(B) and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.^(C)

²² And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us,^(A) knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life^(B) and eat, and live forever.” ²³ So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden^(C) to work the ground^(D) from which he had been taken. ²⁴ After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side^[a] of the Garden of Eden^(E) cherubim^(F) and a flaming sword^(G) flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.^(H)
