Threefold Woe Over Babylon’s Fall

⁹ “When the kings of the earth who committed adultery with her^(A) and shared her luxury^(B) see the smoke of her burning,^(C) they will weep and mourn over her.^(D)

³ And again they shouted:

² With her the kings of the earth committed adultery, and the inhabitants of the earth were intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries.”^(A)

¹⁸ When they see the smoke of her burning,^(A) they will exclaim, ‘Was there ever a city like this great city^(B)?’^(C)

¹¹ And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever.^(A) There will be no rest day or night^(B) for those who worship the beast and its image,^(C) or for anyone who receives the mark of its name.”^(D)

¹⁶ Then all the princes of the coast will step down from their thrones and lay aside their robes and take off their embroidered^(A) garments. Clothed^(B) with terror, they will sit on the ground,^(C) trembling^(D) every moment, appalled^(E) at you. ¹⁷ Then they will take up a lament^(F) concerning you and say to you:
