⁸ The beast, which you saw, once was, now is not, and yet will come up out of the Abyss^(A) and go to its destruction.^(B) The inhabitants of the earth^(C) whose names have not been written in the book of life^(D) from the creation of the world will be astonished^(E) when they see the beast, because it once was, now is not, and yet will come.

¹¹ The beast who once was, and now is not,^(A) is an eighth king. He belongs to the seven and is going to his destruction.

⁷ Now when they have finished their testimony, the beast^(A) that comes up from the Abyss^(B) will attack them,^(C) and overpower and kill them.

¹⁵ Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword^(A) with which to strike down^(B) the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.”^[a](C) He treads the winepress^(D) of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. ¹⁶ On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:^(E)

¹⁷ And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds^(G) flying in midair,^(H) “Come,^(I) gather together for the great supper of God,^{(J) 18} so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and the mighty, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people,^(K) free and slave,^(L) great and small.”^(M)

¹⁹ Then I saw the beast^(N) and the kings of the earth^(O) and their armies gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse^(P) and his army. ²⁰ But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet^(Q) who had performed the signs^(R) on its behalf.^(S) With these signs he had deluded^(T) those who had received the mark of the beast^(U) and worshiped its image.^(V) The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake^(W) of burning sulfur.^{(X) 21} The rest were killed with the sword^(Y) coming out of the mouth of the rider on the horse,^(Z) and all the birds^(AA) gorged themselves on their flesh.

9 The fifth angel sounded his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from the sky to the earth.^(A) The star was given the key^(B) to the shaft of the Abyss.^{(C) 2} When he opened the Abyss, smoke rose from it like the smoke from a gigantic furnace.^(D) The sun and sky were darkened^(E) by the smoke from the Abyss.^(F)

³⁴ “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom^(A) prepared for you since the creation of the world.^(B)

¹² And I saw the dead, great and small,^(A) standing before the throne, and books were opened.^(B) Another book was opened, which is the book of life.^(C) The dead were judged^(D) according to what they had done^(E) as recorded in the books.
