¹³ And I saw, coming out of the mouth of ^(A)the dragon and out of the mouth of ^(B)the beast and out of the mouth of ^(C)the false prophet, three ^(D)unclean spirits like ^(E)frogs.

²⁰ And the beast was captured, and with it ^(A)the false prophet ^(B)who in its presence^[a] had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who ^(C)worshiped its image. These two were ^(D)thrown alive into the lake of ^(E)fire that burns with sulfur.

¹⁰ and the devil ^(A)who had deceived them was ^(B)thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where ^(C)the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

⁹ The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan ^(A)with all power and false signs and wonders, ¹⁰ and with all wicked deception for ^(B)those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. ¹¹ Therefore ^(C)God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe ^(D)what is false,

The Second Beast

¹¹ Then ^(A)I saw another beast rising out of the earth. It had two horns like a lamb and it spoke like a dragon. ¹² It exercises all the authority of the first beast in its presence,^[a] and makes the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, ^(B)whose mortal wound was healed. ^13 (C)It performs great signs, even ^(D)making fire come down from heaven to earth in front of people, ¹⁴ and by the signs that it is allowed to work in the presence of^[b] the beast ^(E)it deceives those who dwell on earth, telling them to make an image for the beast ^(F)that was wounded by the sword and yet lived. ¹⁵ And it was allowed to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast might even speak and might cause those who would not ^(G)worship the image of the beast ^(H)to be slain. ¹⁶ Also it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave,^{[c] (I)}to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, ¹⁷ so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, ^(J)the name of the beast or ^(K)the number of its name. ^18 (L)This calls for wisdom: let the one who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number ^(M)of a man, and his number is 666.^[d]

² And he called out with a mighty voice,

¹⁴ For they are ^(A)demonic spirits, ^(B)performing signs, who go abroad to the kings of the whole world, ^(C)to assemble them for battle on ^(D)the great day of God the Almighty.

The First Beast

13 And I saw a beast rising out of the sea, ^(A)with ten horns and seven heads, with ten diadems on its horns and ^(B)blasphemous names on its heads. ² And the beast that I saw was ^(C)like a leopard; its feet were like ^(D)a bear's, and its mouth was like ^(E)a lion's mouth. And to it ^(F)the dragon gave his power and ^(G)his throne and great authority. ³ One of its heads seemed to have a mortal wound, but its mortal wound was healed, and ^(H)the whole earth marveled as they followed the beast. ⁴ And they worshiped the dragon, for he had given his authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, ^(I)“Who is like the beast, and who can fight against it?”

⁵ And the beast was given ^(J)a mouth uttering haughty and blasphemous words, and it was allowed to exercise authority for ^(K)forty-two months. ⁶ It opened its mouth to utter blasphemies against God, blaspheming his name and his dwelling,^[a] that is, those who dwell in heaven. ⁷ Also it was allowed ^(L)to make war on the saints and to conquer them.^[b] And authority was given it over every tribe and people and language and nation,

⁹ And ^(A)the great dragon was thrown down, ^(B)that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, ^(C)the deceiver of the whole world—^(D)he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. ¹⁰ And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now ^(E)the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers^[a] has been thrown down, ^(F)who accuses them day and night before our God. ¹¹ And ^(G)they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for ^(H)they loved not their lives ^(I)even unto death. ¹² Therefore, ^(J)rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them! But ^(K)woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because ^(L)he knows that his time is short!”

¹³ And when the dragon saw that he had been thrown down to the earth, he pursued ^(M)the woman who had given birth to the male child.
