¹² And I saw the dead, great and small,^(A) standing before the throne, and books were opened.^(B) Another book was opened, which is the book of life.^(C) The dead were judged^(D) according to what they had done^(E) as recorded in the books.

⁵ Then a voice came from the throne, saying:

This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness^(B) on the part of God’s people.^(C)

¹⁰ They called out in a loud voice, “How long,^(A) Sovereign Lord,^(B) holy and true,^(C) until you judge the inhabitants of the earth^(D) and avenge our blood?”^{(E) 11} Then each of them was given a white robe,^(F) and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters,^[a] were killed just as they had been.^(G)

Epilogue: Invitation and Warning

¹² “Look, I am coming soon!^(A) My reward is with me,^(B) and I will give to each person according to what they have done.^(C)

⁴ I saw thrones^(A) on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge.^(B) And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded^(C) because of their testimony about Jesus^(D) and because of the word of God.^(E) They^[a] had not worshiped the beast^(F) or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands.^(G) They came to life and reigned^(H) with Christ a thousand years. ⁵ (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection.^(I)

²⁵ He chose to be mistreated^(A) along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. ²⁶ He regarded disgrace^(B) for the sake of Christ^(C) as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.^(D)
