Psalm 83

Bön om hjälp mot Guds folks fiender

1 En sång, en psalm av Asaf.

2 Gud, var inte tyst,
    tig inte och var inte stilla, Gud!
3 Ty se, dina fiender larmar,
    och de som hatar dig lyfter huvudet.
4 Mot ditt folk har de onda planer,
    de rådslår mot dem som du beskyddar.
5 De säger: "Kom, vi utrotar dem,
    så att de inte mer är ett folk
och så att ingen mer tänker på Israels namn!"
6 I enighet rådslår de med varandra,
    de sluter förbund mot dig:
7 Edoms tält och ismaeliterna,
    Moab och hagariterna,
8 Gebal, Ammon och Amalek,
    filisteerna och de som bor i Tyrus.
9 Assur har också slutit sig till dem,
    han har lånat sin arm åt Lots barn. Sela.

10 Gör med dem som du gjorde med Midjan,
som med Sisera och Jabin vid Kishons bäck,
11 dem som förgjordes vid En-Dor
    och blev till gödsel på marken.
12 Låt det gå deras stormän
    som det gick Oreb och Seeb,
och alla deras furstar
    som det gick Seba och Salmunna,
13 eftersom de säger: "Guds betesmarker vill vi erövra."

14 Min Gud, låt dem bli som virvlande löv,
som strå för vinden.
15 Som elden förtär skog
    och lågan svedjer berg,
16 så skall du förfölja dem med ditt oväder
och förskräcka dem med din storm.
17 Täck deras ansikten med skam
    så att de söker ditt namn, Herre.
18 De skall komma på skam och förskräckas till evig tid,
de skall komma på skam och gå under.
19 De skall veta att endast du bär namnet " Herren ",[a]
den Högste över hela jorden.

    var inte stilla och stum, Gud!
3 Se, dina fiender larmar
    och de som hatar dig
        höjer sina huvuden.
4 (B) De smider listiga planer
        mot ditt folk,
    de rådslår mot dem du beskyddar,
5 de säger: "Kom,
        vi utrotar dem som folk
    så att ingen mer minns
        Israels namn!"

6 Enigt rådslår de med varandra,
    de sluter förbund mot dig:
7 (C) Edoms tält och ismaeliterna,[a]
    Moab och hagariterna,
8 Gebal, Ammon och Amalek,
    filisteerna och Tyrus invånare.
9 (D) Även Assur ansluter sig till dem,
    han lånar sin arm åt Lots barn. Sela

10 (E) Gör med dem som med Midjan,

    och skräckslå dem
        med ditt oväder.

17 (J) Fyll deras ansikten med skam
    så att de söker ditt namn, Herre.
18 De ska skämmas
        i skräck till evig tid,
    de ska skämmas och gå under.
19 (K) Låt dem veta att du ensam
    bär namnet Herren,
        den Högste över hela jorden.

Psalm 83[a]

A song. A psalm of Asaph.

1 O God, do not remain silent;(A)
    do not turn a deaf ear,
    do not stand aloof, O God.
2 See how your enemies growl,(B)
    how your foes rear their heads.(C)
3 With cunning they conspire(D) against your people;
    they plot against those you cherish.(E)
4 “Come,” they say, “let us destroy(F) them as a nation,(G)
    so that Israel’s name is remembered(H) no more.”

5 With one mind they plot together;(I)
    they form an alliance against you—
6 the tents of Edom(J) and the Ishmaelites,
    of Moab(K) and the Hagrites,(L)
7 Byblos,(M) Ammon(N) and Amalek,(O)
    Philistia,(P) with the people of Tyre.(Q)
8 Even Assyria(R) has joined them
    to reinforce Lot’s descendants.[b](S)

9 Do to them as you did to Midian,(T)
    as you did to Sisera(U) and Jabin(V) at the river Kishon,(W)
10 who perished at Endor(X)
    and became like dung(Y) on the ground.
11 Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb,(Z)
    all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,(AA)
12 who said, “Let us take possession(AB)
    of the pasturelands of God.”

13 Make them like tumbleweed, my God,
    like chaff(AC) before the wind.
14 As fire consumes the forest
    or a flame sets the mountains ablaze,(AD)
15 so pursue them with your tempest(AE)
    and terrify them with your storm.(AF)
16 Cover their faces with shame,(AG) Lord,
    so that they will seek your name.

17 May they ever be ashamed and dismayed;(AH)
    may they perish in disgrace.(AI)
18 Let them know that you, whose name is the Lord(AJ)—
    that you alone are the Most High(AK) over all the earth.(AL)

83 Do(A) not keep silent, O God!
Do not hold Your peace,
And do not be still, O God!
2 For behold, (B)Your enemies make a [a]tumult;
And those who hate You have [b]lifted up their head.
3 They have taken crafty counsel against Your people,
And consulted together (C)against Your sheltered ones.
4 They have said, “Come, and (D)let us cut them off from being a nation,
That the name of Israel may be remembered no more.”

5 For they have consulted together with one [c]consent;
They [d]form a confederacy against You:
6 (E)The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites;
Moab and the Hagrites;
7 Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek;
Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre;
8 Assyria also has joined with them;
They have helped the children of Lot. Selah

9 Deal with them as with (F)Midian,
As with (G)Sisera,
As with Jabin at the Brook Kishon,
10 Who perished at En Dor,
(H)Who became as refuse on the earth.
11 Make their nobles like (I)Oreb and like Zeeb,
Yes, all their princes like (J)Zebah and Zalmunna,
12 Who said, “Let us take for ourselves
The pastures of God for a possession.”

13 (K)O my God, make them like the whirling dust,
(L)Like the chaff before the wind!
14 As the fire burns the woods,
And as the flame (M)sets the mountains on fire,
15 So pursue them with Your tempest,
And frighten them with Your storm.
16 Fill their faces with shame,
That they may seek Your name, O Lord.
17 Let them be [e]confounded and dismayed forever;
Yes, let them be put to shame and perish,
18 (N)That they may know that You, whose (O)name alone is the Lord,
Are (P)the Most High over all the earth.
