In You Do I Take Refuge

A ^(A)Shiggaion^[a] of David, which he sang to the Lord concerning the words of Cush, a Benjaminite.

7 O Lord my God, in you do I ^(B)take refuge;
^(C)save me from all my pursuers and deliver me,
²lest like ^(D)a lion they tear my soul apart,
rending it in pieces, with ^(E)none to deliver.

³O Lord my God, ^(F)if I have done this,
    if there is ^(G)wrong in my hands,
⁴if I have repaid ^(H)my friend^[b] with evil
    or ^(I)plundered my enemy without cause,
⁵let the enemy pursue my soul and overtake it,
    and let him ^(J)trample my life to the ground
    and lay my glory in the dust. Selah

⁶^(K)Arise, O Lord, in your anger;
    ^(L)lift yourself up against the fury of my enemies;
    ^(M)awake for me; you have appointed a judgment.
⁷Let the assembly of the peoples be gathered about you;
    over it return on high.

⁸The Lord ^(N)judges the peoples;
    ^(O)judge me, O Lord, according to my righteousness
    and according to the integrity that is in me.
⁹Oh, let the evil of the wicked come to an end,
    and may you establish the righteous—
you who ^(P)test ^(Q)the minds and hearts,^[c]
    O righteous God!
¹⁰My shield is ^(R)with God,
    who saves ^(S)the upright in heart.
¹¹God is ^(T)a righteous judge,
    and a God who feels ^(U)indignation every day.

¹²If a man^[d] does not repent, God^[e] will ^(V)whet his sword;
    he has ^(W)bent and ^(X)readied his bow;
¹³he has prepared for him his deadly weapons,
    making his ^(Y)arrows ^(Z)fiery shafts.
¹⁴Behold, the wicked man ^(AA)conceives evil
    and is ^(AB)pregnant with mischief
    and gives birth to lies.
¹⁵He makes ^(AC)a pit, digging it out,
    and falls into the hole that he has made.
¹⁶His ^(AD)mischief returns upon his own head,
    and on his own skull his violence descends.

¹⁷I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness,
and I will ^(AE)sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High.

How Majestic Is Your Name

8 O Lord, our Lord,
    how majestic is your ^(AG)name in all the earth!
You have set your ^(AH)glory above the heavens.
²    ^(AI)Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established ^(AJ)strength because of your foes,
    to still ^(AK)the enemy and the avenger.

³When I ^(AL)look at your heavens, the work of your ^(AM)fingers,
the moon and the stars, ^(AN)which you have set in place,
⁴^(AO)what is man that you are ^(AP)mindful of him,
and ^(AQ)the son of man that you ^(AR)care for him?

⁵Yet you have made him a little lower than ^(AS)the heavenly beings^[g]
    and crowned him with ^(AT)glory and honor.
⁶You have given him ^(AU)dominion over the works of your hands;
    ^(AV)you have put all things under his feet,
⁷all sheep and oxen,
    and also the beasts of the field,
⁸the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea,
    whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

⁹O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

I Will Recount Your Wonderful Deeds

9 I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart;
I will recount all of your ^(AW)wonderful deeds.
²I will be glad and ^(AX)exult in you;
I will ^(AY)sing praise to your name, ^(AZ)O Most High.

³When my enemies turn back,
they stumble and perish before^[j] your presence.
⁴For you have ^(BA)maintained my just cause;
you have ^(BB)sat on the throne, giving righteous judgment.

⁵You have ^(BC)rebuked the nations; you have made the wicked perish;
    you have ^(BD)blotted out their name forever and ever.
⁶The enemy came to an end in everlasting ruins;
    their cities you rooted out;
    the very memory of them has perished.

⁷But the Lord sits enthroned forever;
he has established his throne for justice,
⁸and he ^(BE)judges the world with righteousness;
he ^(BF)judges the peoples with uprightness.

⁹The Lord is ^(BG)a stronghold for ^(BH)the oppressed,
a stronghold in ^(BI)times of trouble.
¹⁰And those who ^(BJ)know your name put their trust in you,
for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.

¹¹Sing praises to the Lord, who ^(BK)sits enthroned in Zion!
Tell among the peoples his ^(BL)deeds!
¹²For he who ^(BM)avenges blood is mindful of them;
he ^(BN)does not forget the cry of the afflicted.

¹³^(BO)Be gracious to me, O Lord!
    See my affliction from those who hate me,
    O you who lift me up from ^(BP)the gates of death,
¹⁴that I may recount all your praises,
    that in the gates of ^(BQ)the daughter of Zion
    I may ^(BR)rejoice in your salvation.

¹⁵The nations have sunk in ^(BS)the pit that they made;
in ^(BT)the net that they hid, their own foot has been caught.
¹⁶The Lord has made himself ^(BU)known; he has executed judgment;
the wicked are snared in the work of their own hands. Higgaion.^[k] Selah

¹⁷The wicked shall ^(BV)return to Sheol,
all the nations that ^(BW)forget God.

¹⁸For the needy shall not always be forgotten,
and ^(BX)the hope of the poor shall not perish forever.

¹⁹^(BY)Arise, O Lord! Let not ^(BZ)man prevail;
let the nations be judged before you!
²⁰Put them in fear, O Lord!
Let the nations know that they are but ^(CA)men! Selah

Peter and Cornelius

10 At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion of ^(A)what was known as the Italian Cohort, ²a devout man ^(B)who feared God with all his household, gave alms generously to the people, and prayed continually to God. ³^(C)About the ninth hour of the day^[a] ^(D)he saw clearly in a vision ^(E)an angel of God come in and say to him, “Cornelius.” ⁴And he stared at him in terror and said, “What is it, Lord?” And he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms ^(F)have ascended ^(G)as a memorial before God. ⁵And now send men to Joppa and bring one Simon who is called Peter. ⁶He is lodging ^(H)with one Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea.” ⁷When the angel who spoke to him had departed, he called two of his servants and a devout soldier from among those who attended him, ⁸and having related everything to them, he sent them to Joppa.

Peter's Vision

⁹The next day, as they were on their journey and approaching the city, ^(I)Peter went up ^(J)on the housetop about ^(K)the sixth hour^[b] to pray. ¹⁰And he became hungry and wanted something to eat, but while they were preparing it, he fell into ^(L)a trance ¹¹and saw ^(M)the heavens opened and something like a great sheet descending, being let down by its four corners upon the earth. ¹²In it were all kinds of animals and reptiles and birds of the air. ¹³And there came a voice to him: “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.” ¹⁴But Peter said, “By no means, Lord; ^(N)for I have never eaten anything that is ^(O)common or ^(P)unclean.” ¹⁵And the voice came to him again a second time, ^(Q)“What God has made clean, do not call common.” ¹⁶This happened three times, and the thing was taken up at once to heaven.

¹⁷Now while Peter was inwardly perplexed as to what ^(R)the vision that he had seen might mean, behold, ^(S)the men who were sent by Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simon's house, stood at the gate ¹⁸and called out to ask whether Simon who was called Peter was lodging there. ¹⁹And while Peter was pondering ^(T)the vision, ^(U)the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men are looking for you. ²⁰Rise and go down and ^(V)accompany them without hesitation,^[c] for I have sent them.” ²¹And Peter went down to the men and said, “I am the one you are looking for. What is the reason for your coming?” ²²And they said, “Cornelius, a centurion, an upright and ^(W)God-fearing man, who is well spoken of by the whole Jewish nation, was directed by ^(X)a holy angel to send for you to come to his house and ^(Y)to hear what you have to say.” ²³So he invited them in to be his guests.
