The Lord’s Care over All His Works.

Israel Invoked to Praise the Lord.

⁹ These are the records of the generations of Noah. Noah was a ^(A)righteous man, ^[a](B)blameless in his generation. Noah ^(C)walked with God. ¹⁰ And Noah fathered three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

¹¹ Now the earth was ^(D)corrupt in the sight of God, and the earth was ^(E)filled with violence. ¹² And God looked on the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for ^[b](F)humanity had corrupted its way upon the earth.

¹³ Then God said to Noah, “^(G)The end of ^[c]humanity has come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence because of ^[d]people; and behold, I am about to destroy them with the earth. ¹⁴ Make for yourself an ark of ^[e]gopher wood; you shall make the ark with compartments, and ^[f]cover it inside and out with pitch. ¹⁵ This is how you shall make it: the length of the ark shall be ^[g]three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits. ¹⁶ You shall make a ^[h]window for the ark, and finish it to a ^[i]cubit from ^[j]the top; and put the door of the ark on the side; you shall make it with lower, second, and third decks. ¹⁷ Now behold, ^(H)I Myself am bringing the flood of water upon the earth, to destroy all flesh in which there is the breath of life, from under heaven; everything that is on the earth shall perish. ¹⁸ But I will establish ^(I)My covenant with you; and ^(J)you shall enter the ark—you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. ^19 (K)And of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every kind into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. ^20 (L)Of the birds according to their kind, and of the animals according to their kind, of every crawling thing of the ground according to its kind, two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive. ²¹ As for you, take for yourself some of every ^(M)food that is edible, and gather it to yourself; and it shall be food for you and them.” ^22 (N)So Noah did these things; according to everything that God had commanded him, so he did.

The Believer’s Rest

4 Therefore, we must fear if, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you may seem to have ^(A)come short of it. ² For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also did; but ^(B)the word ^[a]they heard did not benefit them, because ^[b]they were not united with those who listened with faith. ³ For we who have believed enter that rest, just as He has said,

although His works were finished ^(D)from the foundation of the world. ⁴ For He has said ^(E)somewhere concerning the seventh day: “^(F)And God ^(G)rested on the seventh day from all His works”; ⁵ and again in this passage, “^(H)They certainly shall not enter My rest.” ⁶ Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and those who previously had good news preached to them failed to enter because of ^(I)disobedience, ⁷ He again sets a certain day, “Today,” saying ^[c]through David after so long a time just ^(J)as has been said before,

⁸ For ^(L)if ^[d]Joshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that. ⁹ Consequently, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. ¹⁰ For the one who has entered His rest has himself also ^(M)rested from his works, as ^(N)God did from His. ¹¹ Therefore let’s make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following the same ^(O)example of ^(P)disobedience. ¹² For ^(Q)the word of God is ^(R)living and ^(S)active, and sharper than any two-edged ^(T)sword, even penetrating as far as the division of ^(U)soul and ^(V)spirit, of both joints and marrow, and ^(W)able to ^[e]judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. ¹³ And ^(X)there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are ^(Y)open and laid bare to the eyes of Him to whom ^[f]we must answer.

First Passover—Cleansing the Temple

^13 (A)The Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus ^(B)went up to Jerusalem. ^14 (C)And within the temple grounds He found those who were selling oxen, sheep, and doves, and the money changers seated at their tables. ¹⁵ And He made a whip of ^[a]cords, and drove them all out of the temple area, with the sheep and the oxen; and He poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables; ¹⁶ and to those who were selling ^(D)the doves He said, “Take these things away from here; stop making ^(E)My Father’s house a ^[b]place of business!” ¹⁷ His ^(F)disciples remembered that it was written: “^(G)Zeal for Your house will consume me.” ^18 (H)The Jews then said to Him, “^(I)What sign do You show us ^[c]as Your authority for doing these things?” ¹⁹ Jesus answered them, “^(J)Destroy this ^[d]temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” ^20 (K)The Jews then said, “It took ^(L)forty-six years to build this ^[e]temple, and yet You will raise it up in three days?” ²¹ But He was speaking about ^(M)the ^[f]temple of His body. ²² So when He was raised from the dead, His ^(N)disciples ^(O)remembered that He said this; and they believed ^(P)the Scripture and the word which Jesus had spoken.
