42 Đức Chúa Trời ôi! Linh hồn tôi mong đợi Chúa
Như con nai thèm khát suối nước.
2 Linh hồn tôi khao khát Đức Chúa Trời, là Đức Chúa Trời hằng sống.
Khi nào tôi mới được đến trình diện trước mặt Đức Chúa Trời?
3 Khi người ta còn hỏi Đức Chúa Trời ngươi đâu?
Thì suốt ngày đêm nước mắt làm đồ ăn cho tôi.
4 Tôi nhớ lại những điều này
Và linh hồn tôi tan vỡ.
Thể nào tôi đã đến,
Dẫn đoàn người vào nhà Đức Chúa Trời,
Trong tiếng reo hò vui vẻ cảm tạ
Của đoàn người dự lễ.
5 Hỡi linh hồn ta, tại sao ngươi chán nản
Và lo lắng trong mình ta?
Hãy hy vọng nơi Đức Chúa Trời.
Vì ta sẽ còn ca ngợi Ngài,
Ngài là Đấng cứu rỗi
Và Đức Chúa Trời hằng giúp đỡ ta.[a]
6 Linh hồn tôi chán nản trong tôi,
Nên tôi nhớ đến Ngài.
Từ vùng đất Giô-đanh,
Từ rặng núi Hẹt-môn và đồi Mít-sê-a.
7 Vực sâu này đến vực sâu khác,[b]
Tiếng ầm ầm của các thác nước;
Tất cả sóng gió ba đào của Ngài
Đã tràn ngập tôi.
8 Ban ngày CHÚA truyền ban[c] tình yêu thương Ngài,
Ban đêm bài hát Ngài ở cùng tôi,
Tức là lời cầu nguyện dâng lên Đức Chúa Trời của đời tôi.[d]
9 Tôi sẽ thưa cùng Đức Chúa Trời, là vầng đá của tôi;
Tại sao Ngài quên tôi?
Vì sao tôi bước đi buồn thảm?
Trong sự đàn áp của kẻ thù?
10 Xương cốt tôi như gẫy nát[e]
Khi kẻ thù chế giễu,
Suốt ngày chúng hỏi tôi:
Đức Chúa Trời ngươi đâu?
11 Hỡi linh hồn ta, tại sao ngươi chán nản?
Vì sao ngươi lo lắng trong mình ta?
Hãy hy vọng nơi Đức Chúa Trời,
Vì ta sẽ còn ca ngợi Ngài,
Là Đấng Cứu Rỗi và Đức Chúa Trời hằng giúp đỡ ta.

42 As the hart panteth after the water brooks,
So panteth my soul after thee, O God.
2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God:
When shall I come and appear before God?
3 My tears have been my food day and night,
While they [a]continually say unto me, Where is thy God?
4 These things I remember, and pour out my soul [b]within me,
How I went with the throng, and [c]led them to the house of God,
With the voice of joy and praise, a multitude keeping holyday.
5 Why art thou [d]cast down, O my soul?
And why art thou disquieted within me?
Hope thou in God; for I shall yet praise him
For the help of his countenance.
6 O my God, my soul is cast down within me:
Therefore do I remember thee from the land of the Jordan,
And the Hermons, from [e]the hill Mizar.
7 Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterfalls:
All thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.
8 Yet Jehovah will command his lovingkindness in the day-time;
And in the night his song shall be with me,
Even a prayer unto the God of my life.
9 I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me?
Why go I mourning [f]because of the oppression of the enemy?
10 As with [g]a sword in my bones, mine adversaries reproach me,
While they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?
11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul?
And why art thou disquieted within me?
Hope thou in God; for I shall yet praise him,
Who is the help of my countenance, and my God.

1 As the deer(A) pants for streams of water,(B)
so my soul pants(C) for you, my God.
2 My soul thirsts(D) for God, for the living God.(E)
When can I go(F) and meet with God?
3 My tears(G) have been my food
day and night,
while people say to me all day long,
“Where is your God?”(H)
4 These things I remember
as I pour out my soul:(I)
how I used to go to the house of God(J)
under the protection of the Mighty One[d]
with shouts of joy(K) and praise(L)
among the festive throng.(M)
5 Why, my soul, are you downcast?(N)
Why so disturbed(O) within me?
Put your hope in God,(P)
for I will yet praise(Q) him,
my Savior(R) and my God.(S)
6 My soul is downcast within me;
therefore I will remember(T) you
from the land of the Jordan,(U)
the heights of Hermon(V)—from Mount Mizar.

in the roar of your waterfalls;
all your waves and breakers
have swept over me.(X)
8 By day the Lord directs his love,(Y)
