I Cry Out Day and Night Before You

A Song. A Psalm of (A)the Sons of Korah. To the choirmaster: according to (B)Mahalath Leannoth. A Maskil[a] of (C)Heman the Ezrahite.

88 O Lord, (D)God of my salvation,
    I (E)cry out day and night before you.
Let my prayer come before you;
    (F)incline your ear to my cry!

For my soul is full of troubles,
    and (G)my life draws near to (H)Sheol.
I am counted among those who (I)go down to the pit;
    I am a man who has no strength,
like one set loose among the dead,
    like the slain that lie in the grave,
like those whom (J)you remember no more,
    for they are (K)cut off from your hand.
You have put me in (L)the depths of the pit,
    in the (M)regions dark and (N)deep.
Your wrath (O)lies heavy upon me,
    and you overwhelm me with (P)all your waves. Selah

You have caused (Q)my companions to shun me;
    you have made me (R)a horror[b] to them.
I am (S)shut in so that I cannot escape;
    (T)my eye grows dim through sorrow.
Every day I call upon you, O Lord;
    I (U)spread out my hands to you.
10 Do you work wonders for the dead?
    (V)Do the departed rise up to praise you? Selah
11 Is your steadfast love declared in the grave,
    or your faithfulness in Abaddon?
12 Are your (W)wonders known in (X)the darkness,
    or your righteousness in the land of (Y)forgetfulness?

13 But I, O Lord, cry (Z)to you;
    (AA)in the morning my prayer comes before you.
14 O Lord, why (AB)do you cast my soul away?
    Why (AC)do you hide your face from me?
15 Afflicted and close to death from my youth up,
    I suffer your terrors; I am helpless.[c]
16 Your wrath has swept over me;
    your (AD)dreadful assaults destroy me.
17 They (AE)surround me like a flood (AF)all day long;
    they (AG)close in on me together.
18 You have caused (AH)my beloved and my friend to shun me;
    my companions have become darkness.[d]

27 He also made the (A)ten stands of bronze. Each stand was four cubits long, four cubits wide, and three cubits high. 28 This was the construction of the stands: they had panels, and the panels were set in the frames, 29 and on the panels that were set in the frames were lions, oxen, and cherubim. On the frames, both above and below the lions and oxen, there were wreaths of beveled work. 30 Moreover, each stand had four bronze wheels and axles of bronze, and at the four corners were supports for a basin. The supports were cast with wreaths at the side of each. 31 Its opening was within a crown that projected upward one cubit. Its opening was round, as a pedestal is made, a cubit and a half deep. At its opening there were carvings, and its panels were square, not round. 32 And the four wheels were underneath the panels. The axles of the wheels were of one piece with the stands, and the height of a wheel was a cubit and a half. 33 The wheels were made like a chariot wheel; their axles, their rims, their spokes, and their hubs were all cast. 34 There were four supports at the four corners of each stand. The supports were of one piece with the stands. 35 And on the top of the stand there was a round band half a cubit high; and on the top of the stand its stays and its panels were of one piece with it. 36 And on the surfaces of its stays and on its panels, he carved cherubim, lions, and palm trees, according to the space of each, with wreaths all around. 37 After this manner he made (B)the ten stands. All of them were cast alike, of the same measure and the same form.

38 And he made (C)ten basins of bronze. Each basin held forty baths, each basin measured four cubits, and there was a basin for each of the ten stands. 39 And he set the stands, five on the south side of the house, and five on the north side of the house. And he set the sea at the southeast corner of the house.

40 (D)Hiram also made (E)the pots, the shovels, and the basins. So Hiram finished all the work that he did for King Solomon on the house of the Lord: 41 the two pillars, the two bowls of the capitals that were on the tops of the pillars, and the two (F)latticeworks to cover the two bowls of the capitals that were on the tops of the pillars; 42 and the (G)four hundred pomegranates for the two latticeworks, two rows of pomegranates for each latticework, to cover the two bowls of the capitals that were on the pillars; 43 the ten stands, and the ten basins on the stands; 44 and (H)the one sea, and the twelve oxen underneath the sea.

45 Now (I)the pots, the shovels, and the basins, all these vessels in the house of the Lord, which Hiram made for King Solomon, were of burnished bronze. 46 In the plain of the Jordan the king cast them, in the clay ground between (J)Succoth and (K)Zarethan. 47 And Solomon left all the vessels unweighed, because there were so many of them; (L)the weight of the bronze was not ascertained.

48 So Solomon made all the vessels that were in the house of the Lord: (M)the golden altar, (N)the golden table for (O)the bread of the Presence, 49 (P)the lampstands of pure gold, five on the south side and five on the north, before the inner sanctuary; (Q)the flowers, the lamps, and the tongs, of gold; 50 the cups, snuffers, basins, dishes for incense, and (R)fire pans, of pure gold; and the sockets of gold, for the doors of the innermost part of the house, (S)the Most Holy Place, and for the doors of the nave of the temple.

51 Thus all the work that King Solomon did on the house of the Lord was finished. And Solomon brought in (T)the things that David his father had dedicated, the silver, the gold, and the vessels, and stored them in the treasuries of the house of the Lord.

Jesus Prays on the Mount of Olives

39 (A)And he came out and went, (B)as was his custom, to (C)the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed him. 40 (D)And when he came to (E)the place, he said to them, (F)“Pray that you may not (G)enter into temptation.” 41 And he withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and (H)knelt down and prayed, 42 saying, (I)“Father, if you are willing, remove (J)this cup from me. (K)Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” 43 And there appeared to him (L)an angel from heaven, strengthening him. 44 And (M)being in agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.[a] 45 And when he rose from prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow, 46 and he said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Rise and (N)pray that you may not enter into temptation.”

Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus

47 (O)While he was still speaking, there came a crowd, and the man called (P)Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He drew near to Jesus to kiss him, 48 but Jesus said to him, “Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?” 49 And when those who were around him saw what would follow, they said, “Lord, shall we strike (Q)with the sword?” 50 And one of them struck the servant[b] of the high priest and cut off his right ear. 51 But Jesus said, “No more of this!” And he touched his ear and healed him. 52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests and (R)officers of the temple and elders, who had come out against him, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs? 53 When (S)I was with you day after day in the temple, you did not lay hands on me. But this is (T)your hour, and (U)the power of darkness.”

Peter Denies Jesus

54 (V)Then they seized him and led him away, bringing him into the high priest's house, (W)and Peter was following at a distance. 55 (X)And when they had kindled a fire in the middle of (Y)the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat down among them. 56 Then a servant girl, seeing him as he sat in the light and looking closely at him, said, “This man also was with him.” 57 But he denied it, saying, “Woman, I do not know him.” 58 And a little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not.” 59 And after an interval of about an hour still another (Z)insisted, saying, “Certainly this man also was with him, for he too is a Galilean.” 60 But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are talking about.” And immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed. 61 And the Lord turned and (AA)looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him, (AB)“Before the rooster crows today, you will (AC)deny me three times.” 62 And he went out and wept bitterly.

Jesus Is Mocked

63 (AD)Now the men who were holding Jesus in custody were mocking him as they beat him. 64 (AE)They also blindfolded him and kept asking him, (AF)“Prophesy! (AG)Who is it that struck you?” 65 And they said many other things against him, (AH)blaspheming him.

Jesus Before the Council

66 (AI)When day came, (AJ)the assembly of the elders of the people gathered together, both chief priests and scribes. And they led him away to their (AK)council, and they (AL)said, 67 (AM)“If you are (AN)the Christ, tell us.” But he said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe, 68 and if I ask you, you will not answer. 69 But from now on the Son of Man shall be seated (AO)at the right hand of the power of God.” 70 So they all said, “Are you (AP)the Son of God, then?” And he said to them, (AQ)“You say that I am.” 71 Then they said, “What further testimony do we need? We have heard it ourselves from his own lips.”
