Psalm 86

Prayer for Mercy, with Meditation on the Excellencies of the Lord

A Prayer of David.

86 Bow down Your ear, O Lord, hear me;
For I am poor and needy.
²Preserve my ^[a]life, for I am holy;
You are my God;
Save Your servant who trusts in You!
³Be merciful to me, O Lord,
For I cry to You all day long.
⁴^[b]Rejoice the soul of Your servant,
^(A)For to You, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
⁵For ^(B)You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive,
And abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You.

⁶Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer;
And attend to the voice of my supplications.
⁷In the day of my trouble I will call upon You,
For You will answer me.

⁸^(C)Among the gods there is none like You, O Lord;
Nor are there any works like Your works.
⁹All nations whom You have made
Shall come and worship before You, O Lord,
And shall glorify Your name.
¹⁰For You are great, and ^(D)do wondrous things;
^(E)You alone are God.

¹¹^(F)Teach me Your way, O Lord;
I will walk in Your truth;
^[c]Unite my heart to fear Your name.
¹²I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart,
And I will glorify Your name forevermore.
¹³For great is Your mercy toward me,
And You have delivered my soul from the depths of ^[d]Sheol.

¹⁴O God, the proud have risen against me,
And a mob of violent men have sought my life,
And have not set You before them.
¹⁵But ^(G)You, O Lord, are a God full of compassion, and gracious,
Longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth.

¹⁶Oh, turn to me, and have mercy on me!
Give Your strength to Your servant,
And save the son of Your maidservant.
¹⁷Show me a sign for good,
That those who hate me may see it and be ashamed,
Because You, Lord, have helped me and comforted me.

John 3:10-21

¹⁰Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things? ¹¹^(A)Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and ^(B)you do not receive Our witness. ¹²If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? ¹³^(C)No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man ^[a]who is in heaven. ¹⁴^(D)And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so ^(E)must the Son of Man be lifted up, ¹⁵that whoever ^(F)believes in Him should ^[b]not perish but ^(G)have eternal life. ¹⁶^(H)For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten ^(I)Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. ¹⁷^(J)For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

¹⁸^(K)“He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. ¹⁹And this is the condemnation, ^(L)that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. ²⁰For ^(M)everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. ²¹But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been ^(N)done in God.”

⁶For when we were still without strength, ^[a]in due time ^(A)Christ died for the ungodly. ⁷For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. ⁸But ^(B)God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. ⁹Much more then, having now been justified ^(C)by His blood, we shall be saved ^(D)from wrath through Him. ¹⁰For ^(E)if when we were enemies ^(F)we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved ^(G)by His life. ¹¹And not only that, but we also ^(H)rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.
