For the Chief Musician. On an instrument of Gath. By Asaph.
81 Sing aloud to God, our strength!
Make a joyful shout to the God of Jacob!
2 Raise a song, and bring here the tambourine,
the pleasant lyre with the harp.
3 Blow the trumpet at the New Moon,
at the full moon, on our feast day.
4 For it is a statute for Israel,
an ordinance of the God of Jacob.
5 He appointed it in Joseph for a covenant,
when he went out over the land of Egypt,
I heard a language that I didn’t know.
6 “I removed his shoulder from the burden.
His hands were freed from the basket.
7 You called in trouble, and I delivered you.
I answered you in the secret place of thunder.
I tested you at the waters of Meribah.” Selah.
8 “Hear, my people, and I will testify to you,
Israel, if you would listen to me!
9 There shall be no strange god in you,
neither shall you worship any foreign god.
10 I am Yahweh, your God,
who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.
Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.
11 But my people didn’t listen to my voice.
Israel desired none of me.
12 So I let them go after the stubbornness of their hearts,
that they might walk in their own counsels.
13 Oh that my people would listen to me,
that Israel would walk in my ways!
14 I would soon subdue their enemies,
and turn my hand against their adversaries.
15 The haters of Yahweh would cringe before him,
and their punishment would last forever.
16 But he would have also fed them with the finest of the wheat.
I will satisfy you with honey out of the rock.”

81 Hãy hát mừng cho Thượng Đế,
sức mạnh của chúng ta;
hãy cất tiếng hoan hô Thượng Đế của Gia-cốp.
2 Hãy trỗi nhạc và đánh trống cơm vang rền.
Hãy tấu nhạc dịu dàng bằng đờn cầm và đờn sắt.
3 Hãy thổi kèn vào ngày Trăng Mới [a],
trỗi lên lúc trăng tròn [b] để ăn mừng.
4 Đây là luật lệ cho Ít-ra-en;
và là mệnh lệnh của Thượng Đế của Gia-cốp.
5 Ngài ban qui tắc nầy cho nhà Giô-xép,
khi họ ra khỏi đất Ai-cập.
Tôi nghe một thứ tiếng mà tôi không hiểu bảo rằng,
6 “Ta đã cất gánh nặng khỏi vai chúng nó;
Ta lấy giỏ nặng khỏi tay chúng.
7 Khi gặp khốn đốn ngươi kêu van, ta liền giải cứu ngươi.
Ta trả lời ngươi qua tiếng sấm.

10 Ta, Chúa và là Thượng Đế ngươi,
Đấng mang ngươi ra khỏi Ai-cập.
Hãy hả miệng ra ta sẽ đút cho ngươi ăn.
11 Nhưng dân ta không chịu nghe ta;
Ít-ra-en không muốn có ta.
12 Cho nên ta để họ tự ý đi đường ương ngạnh,
tự làm theo ý muốn riêng mình.
13 Ta mong dân ta lắng nghe ta;
Ta ao ước Ít-ra-en sống theo đường lối ta.
14 Như thế ta mới có thể mau chóng đánh bại kẻ thù của họ
và trở tay nghịch lại địch thủ họ.
15 Những kẻ ghét Chúa sẽ cúi đầu trước mặt Ngài.
Chúng sẽ bị trừng phạt đời đời.
16 Nhưng ta sẽ ban cho ngươi lúa mì hảo hạng
và cho ngươi no nê mật ong từ tảng đá.”

81 Sing aloud unto God our strength: make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob.
2 Take a psalm, and bring hither the timbrel, the pleasant harp with the psaltery.
3 Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day.
4 For this was a statute for Israel, and a law of the God of Jacob.
5 This he ordained in Joseph for a testimony, when he went out through the land of Egypt: where I heard a language that I understood not.
6 I removed his shoulder from the burden: his hands were delivered from the pots.
7 Thou calledst in trouble, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder: I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. Selah.
8 Hear, O my people, and I will testify unto thee: O Israel, if thou wilt hearken unto me;
9 There shall no strange god be in thee; neither shalt thou worship any strange god.
10 I am the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.
11 But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me.
12 So I gave them up unto their own hearts' lust: and they walked in their own counsels.
13 Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, and Israel had walked in my ways!
14 I should soon have subdued their enemies, and turned my hand against their adversaries.
15 The haters of the Lord should have submitted themselves unto him: but their time should have endured for ever.
16 He should have fed them also with the finest of the wheat: and with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied thee.

1 Sing for joy to God our strength;
shout aloud to the God of Jacob!(A)
2 Begin the music, strike the timbrel,(B)
play the melodious harp(C) and lyre.(D)
3 Sound the ram’s horn(E) at the New Moon,(F)
and when the moon is full, on the day of our festival;
4 this is a decree for Israel,
an ordinance of the God of Jacob.(G)
5 When God went out against Egypt,(H)
he established it as a statute for Joseph.
I heard an unknown voice say:(I)
6 “I removed the burden(J) from their shoulders;(K)
their hands were set free from the basket.
7 In your distress you called(L) and I rescued you,
I answered(M) you out of a thundercloud;
I tested you at the waters of Meribah.[c](N)
8 Hear me, my people,(O) and I will warn you—
if you would only listen to me, Israel!
9 You shall have no foreign god(P) among you;
you shall not worship any god other than me.
10 I am the Lord your God,
who brought you up out of Egypt.(Q)
Open(R) wide your mouth and I will fill(S) it.
11 “But my people would not listen to me;
Israel would not submit to me.(T)
12 So I gave them over(U) to their stubborn hearts
to follow their own devices.
13 “If my people would only listen to me,(V)
if Israel would only follow my ways,
14 how quickly I would subdue(W) their enemies
and turn my hand against(X) their foes!
15 Those who hate the Lord would cringe(Y) before him,
and their punishment would last forever.
16 But you would be fed with the finest of wheat;(Z)
with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”
