Psalm 8
GOD’S WORD Translation
For the choir director; on the gittith; [a] a psalm by David.
8 O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name throughout the earth!
Your glory is sung above the heavens.
2 From the mouths of little children and infants,
you have built a fortress against your opponents
to silence the enemy and the avenger.
3 When I look at your heavens,
the creation of your fingers,
the moon and the stars that you have set in place—
4 what is a mortal that you remember him
or the Son of Man that you take care of him?
5 You have made him a little lower than yourself.
You have crowned him with glory and honor.
6 You have made him rule what your hands created.
You have put everything under his control:
7 all the sheep and cattle, the wild animals,
8 the birds, the fish,
whatever swims in the currents of the seas.
9 O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name throughout the earth!

How Majestic Is Your Name

8 O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your (B)name in all the earth!
You have set your (C)glory above the heavens.
2 (D)Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established (E)strength because of your foes,
to still (F)the enemy and the avenger.
3 When I (G)look at your heavens, the work of your (H)fingers,
the moon and the stars, (I)which you have set in place,
4 (J)what is man that you are (K)mindful of him,
and (L)the son of man that you (M)care for him?
5 Yet you have made him a little lower than (N)the heavenly beings[b]
and crowned him with (O)glory and honor.
6 You have given him (P)dominion over the works of your hands;
(Q)you have put all things under his feet,
7 all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field,
8 the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

hur härligt är inte ditt namn
över hela jorden,
du som satt ditt majestät
på himlen!
3 (B) Av barns och spädbarns mun
har du berett en makt[b]
för dina fienders skull,
för att förgöra fiende och hämnare.[c]
4 (C) När jag ser din himmel,
dina fingrars verk,
månen och stjärnorna
som du har skapat –
5 (D) vad är då en människa
att du tänker på henne,
en människoson
att du tar hand om honom?[d]
6 (E) En liten tid[e] lät du honom
vara lägre än[f] Gud,
med ära och härlighet
krönte du honom.
7 (F) Du satte honom att härska
över dina händers verk,
allt lade du under hans fötter:[g]
8 alla får och oxar
liksom vildmarkens djur,
9 himlens fåglar och havets fiskar,
de som vandrar havens vägar.
10 Herre, vår Herre,
hur härligt är inte ditt namn
över hela jorden!
