Psalm 43[a]

Prayer To Worship God Anew

Grant me your justice, O God,
    and plead my cause against a godless nation;
    rescue me from those who are deceitful and unjust.
You, O God, are my refuge;
    why have you rejected me?
Why must I go about in mourning,
    while my enemy oppresses me?
Send forth your light and your truth;[b]
    they will serve as my guide.
Let them bring me to your holy mountain,
    to the place of your dwelling.
Then I will go to the altar of God,
    to the God of my joy and delight,
and I will praise you[c] with the harp,
    O God, my God.
Why are you so disheartened, O my soul?
    Why do you sigh within me?
Place your hope in God;
    for I will once again praise him,
    my Savior and my God.[d]

Footnotes

  1. Psalm 43:1 The psalmist asks God for vindication so that he may be able to return to the temple and render him praise once again.
    We can pray this psalm to augment our tranquil hope. We place our cause in God, who has sworn that he will obtain redress for us from our enemies (see Rom 12:19; Heb 10:30). He will enable us to journey toward the heavenly Jerusalem in the vast mobile column of his Church, the true liturgical procession and uninterrupted processional march that takes the elect to him (see Heb 10:19-22).
  2. Psalm 43:3 Your light and your truth: the psalmist personifies the divine attributes of light (see note on Ps 27:1) and truth (see Pss 25:5; 26:3; 40:11) and asks that they bring him safely to the temple. Holy mountain: see note on Ps 2:6.
  3. Psalm 43:4 Altar of God . . . I will praise you: see notes on Pss 7:18; 26:6.
  4. Psalm 43:5 See note on Ps 42:12.

Send Out Your Light and Your Truth

43 (A)Give justice to me, O God, and (B)plead my case against an unholy nation;
[a]Oh protect me from (C)the deceitful and unrighteous man!
For You are the (D)God of my strength; why have You (E)rejected me?
Why do I go (F)mourning [b]because of the oppression of the enemy?

Oh send out Your (G)light and Your truth, let them lead me;
Let them bring me to Your (H)holy mountain
And to Your (I)dwelling places.
Then I will go to (J)the altar of God,
To God [c]my exceeding (K)joy;
And upon the (L)lyre I shall praise You, O God, my God.

(M)Why are you [d]in despair, O my soul?
And why are you disturbed within me?
Wait for God, for I shall still praise Him,
The salvation of my presence and my God.

O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles.

Then will I go unto the altar of God, unto God my exceeding joy: yea, upon the harp will I praise thee, O God my God.

Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

Súplica de liberación

43 Dios mío, ¡hazme justicia! ¡Defiéndeme!
¡Líbrame de gente impía, mentirosa e inicua!
Tú eres mi Dios, mi fortaleza;
¿por qué me has abandonado?
¿Por qué debo andar acongojado
y sufrir por la opresión del enemigo?

Envía tu luz y tu verdad;
ellas me guiarán hasta tu santo monte,
me conducirán hasta el templo donde habitas.
Me acercaré entonces a tu altar, mi Dios,
