Human Wickedness and God’s Love
For the choir director. Of David, the Lord’s servant.
36 An oracle within my heart
concerning the transgression of the wicked person:
Dread of God has no effect on him.[a](A)
2 For with his flattering opinion of himself,
he does not discover and hate his iniquity.(B)
3 The words from his mouth are malicious and deceptive;(C)
he has stopped acting wisely and doing good.(D)
4 Even on his bed he makes malicious plans.(E)
He sets himself on a path that is not good,
and he does not reject evil.(F)
5 Lord, your faithful love reaches to heaven,
your faithfulness to the clouds.(G)
6 Your righteousness is like the highest mountains,
your judgements like the deepest sea.(H)
Lord, you preserve people and animals.(I)
7 How priceless your faithful love is, God!
People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.(J)
8 They are filled from the abundance of your house.
You let them drink from your refreshing stream.(K)
9 For the wellspring of life is with you.(L)
By means of your light we see light.(M)
10 Spread your faithful love over those who know you,
and your righteousness over the upright in heart.(N)
11 Do not let the foot of the arrogant come near me
or the hand of the wicked drive me away.(O)
12 There! The evildoers have fallen.
They have been thrown down and cannot rise.(P)

36 (36:1) Au chef des chantres. Du serviteur de l'Éternel, de David. (36:2) La parole impie du méchant est au fond de mon coeur; La crainte de Dieu n'est pas devant ses yeux.
2 (36:3) Car il se flatte à ses propres yeux, Pour consommer son iniquité, pour assouvir sa haine.
3 (36:4) Les paroles de sa bouche sont fausses et trompeuses; Il renonce à agir avec sagesse, à faire le bien.
4 (36:5) Il médite l'injustice sur sa couche, Il se tient sur une voie qui n'est pas bonne, Il ne repousse pas le mal.
5 (36:6) Éternel! ta bonté atteint jusqu'aux cieux, Ta fidélité jusqu'aux nues.
6 (36:7) Ta justice est comme les montagnes de Dieu, Tes jugements sont comme le grand abîme. Éternel! tu soutiens les hommes et les bêtes.
7 (36:8) Combien est précieuse ta bonté, ô Dieu! A l'ombre de tes ailes les fils de l'homme cherchent un refuge.
8 (36:9) Ils se rassasient de l'abondance de ta maison, Et tu les abreuves au torrent de tes délices.
9 (36:10) Car auprès de toi est la source de la vie; Par ta lumière nous voyons la lumière.
10 (36:11) Étends ta bonté sur ceux qui te connaissent, Et ta justice sur ceux dont le coeur est droit!
11 (36:12) Que le pied de l'orgueil ne m'atteigne pas, Et que la main des méchants ne me fasse pas fuir!
12 (36:13) Déjà tombent ceux qui commettent l'iniquité; Ils sont renversés, et ils ne peuvent se relever.

1 I have a message from God in my heart
concerning the sinfulness of the wicked:[b](A)
There is no fear(B) of God
before their eyes.(C)
2 In their own eyes they flatter themselves
too much to detect or hate their sin.(D)
3 The words of their mouths(E) are wicked and deceitful;(F)
they fail to act wisely(G) or do good.(H)
4 Even on their beds they plot evil;(I)
they commit themselves to a sinful course(J)
and do not reject what is wrong.(K)
5 Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens,
your faithfulness(L) to the skies.(M)
6 Your righteousness(N) is like the highest mountains,(O)
your justice like the great deep.(P)
You, Lord, preserve both people and animals.(Q)
7 How priceless is your unfailing love, O God!(R)
People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.(S)
8 They feast on the abundance of your house;(T)
you give them drink from your river(U) of delights.(V)
9 For with you is the fountain of life;(W)
in your light(X) we see light.
