Ascribe to the Lord Glory

A Psalm of David.

29 Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings,[a]
    (A)ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
    worship the Lord in (B)the splendor of holiness.[b]

The voice of the Lord is over (C)the waters;
    the God of glory (D)thunders,
    the Lord, over many waters.
The voice of the Lord is (E)powerful;
    the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.

The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars;
    the Lord breaks (F)the cedars of Lebanon.
He makes Lebanon to (G)skip like a calf,
    and (H)Sirion like a young (I)wild ox.

The voice of the Lord flashes forth flames of fire.
The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness;
    the Lord shakes the wilderness of (J)Kadesh.

The voice of the Lord makes (K)the deer give birth[c]
    and strips the forests bare,
    and in his temple all cry, “Glory!”

10 The Lord sits enthroned over (L)the flood;
    the Lord sits enthroned (M)as king forever.
11 May the Lord give (N)strength to his people!
    May the Lord bless[d] his people with (O)peace!

12 (A)Then the Spirit[a] lifted me up, and I heard behind me the voice[b] of (B)a great earthquake: “Blessed be the glory of the Lord from its place!” 13 It was the sound of the wings of (C)the living creatures as they touched one another, and the sound of the wheels beside them, and the sound of (D)a great earthquake. 14 (E)The Spirit lifted me up and took me away, and I went in bitterness in the heat of my spirit, the (F)hand of the Lord being strong upon me. 15 (G)And I came to the exiles at Tel-abib, who were dwelling (H)by the Chebar canal, and I sat where they were dwelling.[c] And (I)I sat there (J)overwhelmed among them (K)seven days.

A Watchman for Israel

16 (L)And at the end of seven days, the word of the Lord came to me: 17 (M)“Son of man, (N)I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall (O)give them warning from me. 18 (P)If I say to the wicked, (Q)‘You shall surely die,’ (R)and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, in order to save his life, that wicked person (S)shall die for[d] his iniquity, (T)but his blood I will require at your hand. 19 (U)But if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, or from his wicked way, he shall die for his iniquity, (V)but you (W)will have delivered your soul. 20 (X)Again, if a righteous person turns from his righteousness and commits injustice, (Y)and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die. (Z)Because you have not warned him, he shall die for his sin, (AA)and his righteous deeds that he has done shall not be remembered, (AB)but his blood I will require at your hand. 21 But if you warn the righteous person not to sin, and he does not sin, he shall surely live, because he took warning, and you will have delivered your soul.”

Peter Confesses Jesus as the Christ

18 (A)Now it happened that as he was praying alone, the disciples were with him. And he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?” 19 And they answered, (B)“John the Baptist. But others say, (C)Elijah, and others, that one of the prophets of old has risen.” 20 Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” And Peter answered, (D)“The Christ of God.”

Jesus Foretells His Death

21 (E)And he strictly charged and commanded them to tell this to no one, 22 (F)saying, (G)“The Son of Man must (H)suffer many things and (I)be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on (J)the third day be raised.”

Take Up Your Cross and Follow Jesus

23 And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him (K)deny himself and (L)take up his cross (M)daily and follow me. 24 For (N)whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. 25 (O)For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself? 26 For (P)whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed (Q)when he comes in (R)his glory and the glory of the Father and of (S)the holy angels. 27 But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who will not (T)taste death (U)until they see the kingdom of God.”
