⁸The Lord is gracious and compassionate,^(A)
slow to anger and rich in love.^(B)

⁹The Lord is good^(C) to all;
he has compassion^(D) on all he has made.

Psalm 145:14-21

¹⁴The Lord upholds^(A) all who fall
    and lifts up all^(B) who are bowed down.^(C)
¹⁵The eyes of all look to you,
    and you give them their food^(D) at the proper time.
¹⁶You open your hand
    and satisfy the desires^(E) of every living thing.

¹⁷The Lord is righteous^(F) in all his ways
    and faithful in all he does.^(G)
¹⁸The Lord is near^(H) to all who call on him,^(I)
    to all who call on him in truth.
¹⁹He fulfills the desires^(J) of those who fear him;^(K)

Paul’s Anguish Over Israel

9 I speak the truth in Christ—I am not lying,^(A) my conscience confirms^(B) it through the Holy Spirit— ²I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. ³For I could wish that I myself^(C) were cursed^(D) and cut off from Christ for the sake of my people,^(E) those of my own race,^(F) ⁴the people of Israel.^(G) Theirs is the adoption to sonship;^(H) theirs the divine glory,^(I) the covenants,^(J) the receiving of the law,^(K) the temple worship^(L) and the promises.^(M) ⁵Theirs are the patriarchs,^(N) and from them is traced the human ancestry of the Messiah,^(O) who is God over all,^(P) forever praised!^[a]^(Q) Amen.
