Psalm 14
A Portrait of Sinners
For the choir director. Of David.
1 The fool says in his heart, “There’s no God.”(A)
They are corrupt; they do vile deeds.
There is no one who does good.
2 The Lord looks down from heaven on the human race[a](B)
to see if there is one who is wise,
one who seeks God.
3 All have turned away;
all alike have become corrupt.
There is no one who does good,
not even one.(C)
4 Will evildoers never understand?
They consume my people as they consume bread;(D)
they do not call on the Lord.(E)
5 Then[b] they will be filled with dread,
for God is with those who are[c] righteous.(F)
6 You sinners frustrate the plans of the oppressed,(G)
but the Lord is his refuge.(H)

16 Then he handed him over to be crucified.
The Crucifixion
Then they took Jesus away.[a] 17 Carrying(A) the cross by himself,(B) he went out to what is called Place of the Skull, which in Aramaic is called Golgotha. 18 There they crucified him and two others with him, one on either side, with Jesus in the middle. 19 Pilate also had a sign made and put on the cross. It said: Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews. 20 Many of the Jews read this sign, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city,(C) and it was written in Aramaic, Latin, and Greek. 21 So the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, “Don’t write, ‘The king of the Jews,’(D) but that he said, ‘I am the king of the Jews.’”
22 Pilate replied, “What I have written, I have written.”
23 When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes and divided them into four parts, a part for each soldier. They also took the tunic, which was seamless, woven in one piece from the top. 24 So they said to one another, “Let’s not tear it, but cast lots for it, to see who gets it.” This happened that the Scripture(E) might be fulfilled(F) that says: They divided my clothes among themselves, and they cast lots for my clothing.[b](G) This is what the soldiers did.
Jesus’s Provision for His Mother
25 Standing(H) by the cross(I) of Jesus were his mother,(J) his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.(K)

The Finished Work of Jesus
28 After(A) this, when Jesus knew that everything was now finished(B) that the Scripture might be fulfilled, he said, “I’m thirsty.”(C) 29 A jar full of sour wine was sitting there; so they fixed a sponge full of sour wine on a hyssop branch(D) and held it up to his mouth.
30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished.”(E) Then bowing his head, he gave up his spirit.(F)

Hebrews 10:5-18

5 Therefore, as he was coming into the world, he said:
You did not desire sacrifice and offering,
but you prepared a body for me.
6 You did not delight
in whole burnt offerings and sin offerings.
7 Then I said, “See—
it is written about me
in the scroll—
I have come to do your will, God.”[a](A)
8 After he says above, You did not desire or delight in sacrifices and offerings, whole burnt offerings and sin offerings (which are offered according to the law(B)), 9 he then says, See, I have come to do your will.[b] He takes away the first to establish the second. 10 By this will, we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all time.(C)
11 Every priest stands day after day ministering and offering the same sacrifices time after time, which can never take away sins.(D) 12 But this man, after offering one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God.[c](E) 13 He is now waiting until his enemies are made his footstool.(F) 14 For by one offering he has perfected forever those who are sanctified. 15 The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. For after he says:
16 This is the covenant I will make with them
after those days,
the Lord says,
I will put my laws on their hearts
and write them on their minds,
17 and I will never again remember
18 Now where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer an offering for sin.

4 But God, who is rich in mercy,(A) because of his great love(B) that he had for us,[a] 5 made us alive(C) with Christ even though we were dead(D) in trespasses. You are saved by grace! 6 He also raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavens in Christ Jesus,(E) 7 so that in the coming ages(F) he might display the immeasurable riches(G) of his grace through his kindness(H) to us in Christ Jesus. 8 For you are saved by grace(I) through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift— 9 not from works, so that no one can boast.

Christ’s Humility and Exaltation
5 Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus,
6 who, existing in the form of God,
did not consider equality with God(A)
as something to be exploited.[a]
7 Instead he emptied himself(B)
by assuming the form of a servant,(C)
taking on the likeness of humanity.(D)
And when he had come as a man,
8 he humbled himself by becoming obedient
to the point of death—
even to death on a cross.(E)
9 For this reason God highly exalted him(F)
and gave him the name
that is above every name,
10 so that at the name of Jesus
every knee will bow(G)—
in heaven(H) and on earth
and under the earth(I)—
11 and every tongue(J) will confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory(K) of God the Father.
