Psalm 132
New International Version
Psalm 132(A)
A song of ascents.
1 Lord, remember David
    and all his self-denial.(B)
2 He swore an oath to the Lord,
    he made a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob:(C)
3 “I will not enter my house(D)
    or go to my bed,
4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes
    or slumber to my eyelids,
5 till I find a place(E) for the Lord,
    a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”
6 We heard it in Ephrathah,(F)
    we came upon it in the fields of Jaar:[a](G)
7 “Let us go to his dwelling place,(H)
    let us worship at his footstool,(I) saying,
8 ‘Arise, Lord,(J) and come to your resting place,
    you and the ark of your might.
9 May your priests be clothed with your righteousness;(K)
    may your faithful people(L) sing for joy.’”
10 For the sake of your servant David,
    do not reject your anointed one.
11 The Lord swore an oath to David,(M)
    a sure oath he will not revoke:
“One of your own descendants(N)
    I will place on your throne.
12 If your sons keep my covenant(O)
    and the statutes I teach them,
then their sons will sit
    on your throne(P) for ever and ever.”
13 For the Lord has chosen Zion,(Q)
    he has desired it for his dwelling,(R) saying,
14 “This is my resting place for ever and ever;(S)
    here I will sit enthroned,(T) for I have desired it.
15 I will bless her with abundant provisions;
    her poor I will satisfy with food.(U)
16 I will clothe her priests(V) with salvation,
    and her faithful people will ever sing for joy.(W)

Psalm 132
Easy-to-Read Version
A song for going up to the Temple.
132 Lord, remember how David suffered.
2 He made a promise to you, Lord,
    an oath to the Mighty God of Jacob.
3 He said, “I will not go into my house
    or lie down on my bed.
4 I will not sleep
    or let my eyes rest,
5 until I find a home for the Lord,
    a tent for the Mighty God of Jacob!”
6 We heard about this in Ephrathah.[a]
    We found the Box of the Agreement at Kiriath Jearim.[b]
7 Now, let’s go to the Lord’s house.
    Let’s worship at his throne.[c]
8 Lord, get up[d] and go to your resting place;
    go with the Box that shows your power.
9 May your priests be clothed in victory
    and your loyal followers be filled with joy.
10 For the sake of your servant David,
    don’t reject your chosen king.[e]
11 The Lord made a promise to David, an oath of loyalty to him:
    “I will always put one of your descendants on your throne.
12 If your descendants obey my agreement and the laws I teach them,
    then the king will always be someone from your family.”
13 The Lord has chosen Zion to be the place for his Temple,
    the place he wanted for his home.
14 He said, “This will always be my place of rest.
    This is where I want to sit on my throne.
15 I will bless this city with plenty of food.
    Even the poor will have enough to eat.
16 I will clothe the priests with salvation,
    and my followers will be filled with joy.
17 This is where I will make David’s family strong.
    I will never let the lamp of my chosen king stop burning.
18 I will cover his enemies with shame,
    and on his head will be a shining crown.”
Footnotes
- Psalm 132:6 Ephrathah Bethlehem, the town where David was born.
- Psalm 132:6 Kiriath Jearim Literally, “fields of the forest.” The Hebrew word meaning “forest” is like the name of this city.
- Psalm 132:7 at his throne Literally, “at his footstool.” This can mean the Box of the Agreement, the Holy Tent, or the Temple. God is like a king sitting on his throne and resting his feet on the place where people worship him.
- Psalm 132:8 Lord, get up The people said this when they lifted the Box of the Agreement and took it into battle with them. This showed that God was with them. See Num. 10:35-36.
- Psalm 132:10 chosen king Literally, “anointed one.”

(A)And vowed to (B)the Mighty One of Jacob:
3 “Surely I will not go into the chamber of my house,

Do not turn away the face of Your [b]Anointed.
11 (L)The Lord has sworn in truth to David;
He will not turn from it:
“I will set upon your throne (M)the [c]fruit of your body.
12 If your sons will keep My covenant
And My testimony which I shall teach them,
Their sons also shall sit upon your throne forevermore.”
13 (N)For the Lord has chosen Zion;
He has desired it for His [d]dwelling place:
14 “This(O) is My resting place forever;
Here I will dwell, for I have desired it.

I will satisfy her poor with bread.

18 His enemies I will (U)clothe with shame,
But upon Himself His crown shall flourish.”
