109 To the Overseer. -- A Psalm of David. O God of my praise, be not silent,

For the mouth of wickedness, and the mouth of deceit, Against me they have opened, They have spoken with me -- A tongue of falsehood, and words of hatred!

They have compassed me about, And they fight me without cause.

For my love they oppose me, and I -- prayer!

And they set against me evil for good, And hatred for my love.

Appoint Thou over him the wicked, And an adversary standeth at his right hand.

In his being judged, he goeth forth wicked, And his prayer is for sin.

His days are few, his oversight another taketh,

His sons are fatherless, and his wife a widow.

10 And wander continually do his sons, Yea, they have begged, And have sought out of their dry places.

11 An exactor layeth a snare for all that he hath, And strangers spoil his labour.

12 He hath none to extend kindness, Nor is there one showing favour to his orphans.

13 His posterity is for cutting off, In another generation is their name blotted out.

14 The iniquity of his fathers Is remembered unto Jehovah, And the sin of his mother is not blotted out.

15 They are before Jehovah continually, And He cutteth off from earth their memorial.

16 Because that he hath not remembered to do kindness, And pursueth the poor man and needy, And the smitten of heart -- to slay,

17 And he loveth reviling, and it meeteth him, And he hath not delighted in blessing, And it is far from him.

18 And he putteth on reviling as his robe, And it cometh in as water into his midst, And as oil into his bones.

19 It is to him as apparel -- he covereth himself, And for a continual girdle he girdeth it on.

20 This [is] the wage of mine accusers from Jehovah, And of those speaking evil against my soul.

21 And Thou, O Jehovah Lord, Deal with me for Thy name's sake, Because Thy kindness [is] good, deliver me.

22 For I [am] poor and needy, And my heart hath been pierced in my midst.

23 As a shadow when it is stretched out I have gone, I have been driven away as a locust.

24 My knees have been feeble from fasting, And my flesh hath failed of fatness.

25 And I -- I have been a reproach to them, They see me, they shake their head.

26 Help me, O Jehovah my God, Save me, according to Thy kindness.

27 And they know that this [is] Thy hand, Thou, O Jehovah, Thou hast done it.

28 They revile, and Thou dost bless, They have risen, and are ashamed, And Thy servant doth rejoice.

29 Mine accusers put on blushing, and are covered, As an upper robe [is] their shame.

30 I thank Jehovah greatly with my mouth, And in the midst of many I praise Him,

31 For He standeth at the right hand of the needy, To save from those judging his soul.

Plea for Judgment of False Accusers

To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.

109 Do(A) not keep silent,
O God of my praise!
For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful
Have opened against me;
They have spoken against me with a (B)lying tongue.
They have also surrounded me with words of hatred,
And fought against me (C)without a cause.
In return for my love they are my accusers,
But I give myself to prayer.
Thus (D)they have rewarded me evil for good,
And hatred for my love.

Set a wicked man over him,
And let (E)an [a]accuser stand at his right hand.
When he is judged, let him be found guilty,
And (F)let his prayer become sin.
Let his days be (G)few,
And (H)let another take his office.
(I)Let his children be fatherless,
And his wife a widow.
10 Let his children [b]continually be vagabonds, and beg;
Let them [c]seek their bread also from their desolate places.
11 (J)Let the creditor seize all that he has,
And let strangers plunder his labor.
12 Let there be none to extend mercy to him,
Nor let there be any to favor his fatherless children.
13 (K)Let his [d]posterity be cut off,
And in the generation following let their (L)name be blotted out.

14 (M)Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the Lord,
And let not the sin of his mother (N)be blotted out.
15 Let them be continually before the Lord,
That He may (O)cut off the memory of them from the earth;
16 Because he did not remember to show mercy,
But persecuted the poor and needy man,
That he might even slay the (P)broken in heart.
17 (Q)As he loved cursing, so let it come to him;
As he did not delight in blessing, so let it be far from him.
18 As he clothed himself with cursing as with his garment,
So let it (R)enter his body like water,
And like oil into his bones.
19 Let it be to him like the garment which covers him,
And for a belt with which he girds himself continually.
20 Let this be the Lord’s reward to my accusers,
And to those who speak evil against my person.

21 But You, O God the Lord,
Deal with me for Your name’s sake;
Because Your mercy is good, deliver me.
22 For I am poor and needy,
And my heart is wounded within me.
23 I am gone (S)like a shadow when it lengthens;
I am shaken off like a locust.
24 My (T)knees are weak through fasting,
And my flesh is feeble from lack of fatness.
25 I also have become (U)a reproach to them;
When they look at me, (V)they shake their heads.

26 Help me, O Lord my God!
Oh, save me according to Your mercy,
27 (W)That they may know that this is Your hand—
That You, Lord, have done it!
28 (X)Let them curse, but You bless;
When they arise, let them be ashamed,
But let (Y)Your servant rejoice.
29 (Z)Let my accusers be clothed with shame,
And let them cover themselves with their own disgrace as with a mantle.

30 I will greatly praise the Lord with my mouth;
Yes, (AA)I will praise Him among the multitude.
31 For (AB)He shall stand at the right hand of the poor,
To save him from those [e]who condemn him.

Thơ Đa-vít, Cho Nhạc Trưởng

109 Lạy Đức Chúa Trời, tôi ca ngợi Ngài,
    Xin chớ im lặng.
Vì miệng độc ác và gian dối
    Đã mở ra chống lại tôi;
    Chúng nói nghịch tôi bằng lưỡi dối trá.
Chúng bao vây tôi bằng những lời thù ghét;
    Chúng tấn công tôi vô cớ.
Chúng đã buộc tội tôi dù tôi yêu thương chúng
    Và cầu nguyện cho chúng.[a]
Chúng lấy điều dữ để báo đáp điều lành cho tôi;
    Chúng lấy thù ghét để báo đáp tình thương.
Nguyện xin một kẻ ác sẽ xử nó,
    Kẻ tố cáo[b] sẽ đứng bên phải nó.
Khi bị xét xử, nguyện nó bị định tội;
    Nguyện lời cầu nguyện của nó bị kể như tội lỗi.
Nguyện ngày tháng đời nó sẽ ngắn đi,
    Nguyện kẻ khác sẽ chiếm chỗ[c] của nó.
Nguyện con cái nó thành trẻ mồ côi,
    Vợ nó sẽ thành người góa bụa.
10 Nguyện con cái nó phải đi lang thang và ăn xin;
    Chúng nó phải đi kiếm ăn[d] từ nơi ở đổ nát của chúng.
11 Nguyện chủ nợ tịch thu tất cả tài sản nó;
    Nguyện người ngoại quốc cướp mất công lao của nó.
12 Nguyện không ai thương hại nó;
    Chẳng ai thương xót con cái mồ côi của nó.
13 Nguyện con cháu nó bị diệt đi;
    Tên nó sẽ bị xóa bỏ vào thế hệ thứ hai.
14 Nguyện sự gian ác của tổ tiên nó vẫn còn ghi nhớ trước mặt CHÚA,
    Tội lỗi của mẹ nó cũng không được xóa đi.
15 Nguyện các tội lỗi ấy hằng ở trước mặt CHÚA;
    Nhưng Ngài xóa bỏ tên[e] họ khỏi mặt đất.
16 Vì nó đã không nhớ làm điều nhân từ
    Nhưng cứ săn đuổi và giết chết
    Kẻ nghèo nàn, khốn khó và khổ đau.
17 Nó ưa thích nguyền rủa,
    Nguyện nó bị rủa sả;
Nó không thích chúc phúc lành,
    Nguyện điều phúc lành cách xa nó.
18 Nó trang phục bằng lời nguyền rủa như chiếc áo khoác;
    Nguyện sự nguyền rủa thấm vào người nó như nước,
    Ngấm vào xương nó như dầu.
    Xin vì danh Ngài hành động bênh vực tôi.
    Vì tình yêu thương của Ngài là tốt lành, xin giải cứu tôi.
22 Vì tôi nghèo khổ và khốn khó;
    Lòng tôi đau đớn trong tôi.
23 Tôi sắp qua đi như bóng hoàng hôn;[g]
    Tôi bị giũ sạch như sâu bọ.[h]
24 Đầu gối tôi yếu mỏn đi vì kiêng ăn;
    Thân thể tôi gầy còm và hốc hác.[i]
25 Tôi trở thành vật chúng khinh bỉ;
    Khi thấy tôi chúng lắc đầu.
26 Lạy CHÚA, Đức Chúa Trời tôi, xin giúp đỡ tôi;
    Vì tình yêu thương của Ngài xin cứu rỗi tôi;
27 Xin cho chúng biết rằng tay Ngài đã cứu rỗi tôi;
    Chính CHÚA đã làm điều đó.
28 Hãy để chúng nguyền rủa nhưng chính Ngài lại ban phước;
    Hãy để chúng nổi lên nhưng chúng sẽ bị hổ thẹn;
    Còn tôi tớ Ngài sẽ vui mừng.
29 Kẻ buộc tội tôi sẽ mặc lấy sự nhục nhã;
    Sự hổ thẹn sẽ bao phủ chúng như áo choàng.
30 Miệng tôi sẽ vô cùng cảm tạ CHÚA;
    Tôi sẽ ca ngợi Ngài giữa công chúng;
31 Vì Ngài đã đứng bên cạnh bênh vực người nghèo khó
    Và cứu rỗi mạng sống người[j] khỏi những kẻ kết tội người.

Psalm 109

For the director of music. Of David. A psalm.

My God, whom I praise,(A)
    do not remain silent,(B)
for people who are wicked and deceitful(C)
    have opened their mouths against me;
    they have spoken against me with lying tongues.(D)
With words of hatred(E) they surround me;
    they attack me without cause.(F)
In return for my friendship they accuse me,
    but I am a man of prayer.(G)
They repay me evil for good,(H)
    and hatred for my friendship.

Appoint someone evil to oppose my enemy;
    let an accuser(I) stand at his right hand.
When he is tried, let him be found guilty,(J)
    and may his prayers condemn(K) him.
May his days be few;(L)
    may another take his place(M) of leadership.
May his children be fatherless
    and his wife a widow.(N)
10 May his children be wandering beggars;(O)
    may they be driven[a] from their ruined homes.
11 May a creditor(P) seize all he has;
    may strangers plunder(Q) the fruits of his labor.(R)
12 May no one extend kindness to him
    or take pity(S) on his fatherless children.
13 May his descendants be cut off,(T)
    their names blotted out(U) from the next generation.
14 May the iniquity of his fathers(V) be remembered before the Lord;
    may the sin of his mother never be blotted out.
15 May their sins always remain before(W) the Lord,
    that he may blot out their name(X) from the earth.

16 For he never thought of doing a kindness,
    but hounded to death the poor
    and the needy(Y) and the brokenhearted.(Z)
17 He loved to pronounce a curse—
    may it come back on him.(AA)
He found no pleasure in blessing—
    may it be far from him.
18 He wore cursing(AB) as his garment;
    it entered into his body like water,(AC)
    into his bones like oil.
19 May it be like a cloak wrapped(AD) about him,
    like a belt tied forever around him.
20 May this be the Lord’s payment(AE) to my accusers,
    to those who speak evil(AF) of me.

21 But you, Sovereign Lord,
    help me for your name’s sake;(AG)
    out of the goodness of your love,(AH) deliver me.(AI)
22 For I am poor and needy,
    and my heart is wounded within me.
23 I fade away like an evening shadow;(AJ)
    I am shaken off like a locust.
24 My knees give(AK) way from fasting;(AL)
    my body is thin and gaunt.(AM)
25 I am an object of scorn(AN) to my accusers;
    when they see me, they shake their heads.(AO)

26 Help me,(AP) Lord my God;
    save me according to your unfailing love.
27 Let them know(AQ) that it is your hand,
    that you, Lord, have done it.
28 While they curse,(AR) may you bless;
    may those who attack me be put to shame,
    but may your servant rejoice.(AS)
29 May my accusers be clothed with disgrace
    and wrapped in shame(AT) as in a cloak.

30 With my mouth I will greatly extol the Lord;
    in the great throng(AU) of worshipers I will praise him.
31 For he stands at the right hand(AV) of the needy,
    to save their lives from those who would condemn them.
